No Discounts 1/11 - am I missing something?

DH and I are making a last-minute weekend trip to Universal 1/11-1/13 - we are long-time Disney fanatics, but this is our first trip to Universal (so we are total newbies and know close to nothing!)... Anyway I was shocked that there were no discounts for 1/11-1/13 at Portofino Bay since January is a non-peak time down there. I chalked it up to a conference or something? But am I missing something? I'm hoping that the parks won't be crowded since our time there is so limited... please feel free to enlighten me!!

I was also wondering if Loews does room requests the way you can at Disney? If so, any suggestions? I do have the Loews first card and will be asking for a (non-guaranteed ) upgrade when we get there (just booked a standard king room).

First of all...did you call or try to book online? Normally AAA rates don't show up online. I found APH rate of $199 and i think others have a 'SuperSaver' rate.... http://www.universalorlando.com/ht_pbh_rates_offers.html#super

I'm not really sure where you found 'no discounts', but if you call the hotel and ask, they should help you. I found 'availability for arrival' on your dates, so there should be rooms available.

I would call the hotel directly and ask for help.....they will most certainly help you...... (and you're right...it should be a slow time...as MLK isn't for another week after you're there)....

I did call the hotel to book the reservation and they said there were no discounts or promos for my dates/length of stay (only staying 2 nights) - not even AAA - with limited availability at Portofino Bay. I may try calling back just to see... thanks again!

i haven't had much luck with finding discounts for weekend only (Fri/Sat) stays for the dates i've checked for '08

Isn't that the week of marathon @ WDW, may be more DVCers are segueing over to U to finish up the week.

Possible convention? If so, might want to keep checking to see if block of rooms is released to public
