Ok, so we were looking into booking SoG, but we were told b/c it's not technically a wdw resort that we can not do the dinning plan. Is there anyway we can do it if we buy the tickets through wdw (as I told DH that is usually part of a package)? I am DDP fanatic... so it presents a dilemma for us. :headache:

Shades of Green is not a Disney resort, it may sit on Disney property but it is not owned, operated or under the control of Walt Disney World, so there is ZERO way to add the DDP or even make a stay at Shades of Green a package to qualify.

No - it doesn't matter if you buy the tickets from Disney or not, you have to stay on at a WDW resort. If you are military, you can just book a room @WDW resort and get a DP without tickets, though.

However...the cost savings of SoG and reduced priced military tickets (if you're eligible) might offset the 20% or so savings of the dining plan??

Have you ever stayed at SoG before? We did once and loved it. BUT! I also love WDW resorts and enjoyed the DDP on our last visit.

No, we have never stayed there before. And our plans to do DVC fell through so we are stuck in this awful resort limbo land until we settle on a resort. The DH and I have looked at all the wonderful photos on allears and are thrilled that they are so much bigger - but we love the dinning plan. :confused3

There's no way to get a dining plan while staying at SoG. It's not a Disney-operated resort. Doesn't matter where you buy your tickets or for how many days, you must be staying at a Disney-operated resort to get a dining plan.

Before you book SoG, call Disney or check the website. They were offering a military discount on rooms. I just don't remember the dates it was offered. You can still get the Military Salute tickets AND get a dining plan. Or at least we did in 2009. It never hurts to ask!!

My hubby is retired AF and my son and I are going to Disney in the end of May. Right now depending on your hubby's rank it may be cheaper for you to stay at a Disney resort hotel with a military discount. Military discounts are for room only rates and range from 25% for a value to 35% for a deluxe resort. Also you can add on Disney Dining plan WITHOUT having to buy park tix. The nice Disney rep. I talked to told me that military familes are the only ones allowed to do this as we can get discounted military park tix. as well. Currently you can get a 4 day park hopper military ticket for 138 per person. These tickets can be purchased on base, at SoG and also at guest relations at any of the Disney theme parks. Price it out - especially because you can do Disney Dining Plan you may find it is cheaper to stay at a Disney Resort. Good luck!! :dance3:
