NO DDE for everyone??!!

I am really sorry if the information that I was given by a DDE CM and subsequently posted caused any of this problem. I did really talk to a DDE CM and that is really what they told me, there was no misinterpretation on my part. And I posted it because I knew that there would be some really happy people. Once again, I am sorry, I know I would be disappointed to find out that this was somehting I could take advantage of and then find out that I couldn't.

The sooner the better for getting the allears site corrected so there are not a lot of other disappointed people. The DDE option for passholders may make some people decide to go head and get an annual pass instead of MYW tickets. Factor in that perk when deciding which ticket to buy.

Terry S,

Don't beat yourself up about it! Really. The whole reason I started the thread was to get all of this out there so that somehow we could collectively make heads or tales of it all. And I believe we did just that. Its important that you shared what hapened to you because it happened to others as well. Particularly if you and others may have trouble using the DDE cards without the supporting documentation, its better that we clear it up now than when you are at Disney seated at a restaurant with your family!!!

I have always appreciated everyone's opinion, insight and willingness to discuss all things Disney. I don't blame you or believe the misinformation was your fault. It appears almost as if there was a snowball effect once people initially misread/misinterpreted the allearsnet site, then it took off from there.

I am thankful, as always, for everyone's input!

I ordered the DDE for my Jan 9th-Jan 15th trip, just a few days before I left. They asked if I had an AP and I told them 'yes, but it had not been validated yet'. She said no problem, but I would have to have my AP validated before I could use the DDE. Late that afternoon I got the e-mail saying I was a member of DDE in good standing. She knew I wouldn't be in the computer as an AP holder since my AP hadn't been activated yet. When I went to WDW, I showed them my letter and they asked for my driver's license. Only one place (CP I think) asked to see my AP. There were a several waiters ( at WCC, Hollywood & Vine, CRT, and CP) though who took my DDE letter and said they would have to ask their managers, because the DDE card has to be run through their computer and they didn't know how to do it with a letter. I did not have any trouble using it however.

Thanks Aubriee for this info; it's something I've been worried about! We (my 4-year old & myself) are arriving at WL right around the time MK closes with PSs at WCC at 8ish. I was hoping not to trek anywhere that night to activate my AP with a grumpy kid just to start my DDE discount!

I have a question.

I was told the second card holder does not have to be an AP holder. Consequently, they will not be able to show an AP when they use the card if they're not AP'ers.

As I have posted on other threads, I am the AP holder in my family. I bought the crad earlier this month for DD's trip and pput her name as second cardholder for her Jan 5th tirp. She took the trip to Orlando not me, and used the DDE letter everywhere she could. No one asked for AP.

herc.

When I ordered our DDE on 01/05, I had the exact same experience. I had to give numbers off of our voucher in order to be able to buy the card. We never had any problems using the letter and no one ever asked to see our AP or id. But we paid with a debit card or room card and not cash so maybe since the names matched they didn't ask for any other kind of id.

Glad to see this whole issue come to a head. From DAY ONE the passholder website said, a current AP MUST be shown in order to get this discount. So many people seem to want to believe everything else other than what the website said. I'm sure as soon as servers start getting use to this new out of state perk, the rules will be more enforced. I'm sure most servers were never told of this perk to AP holders. Sounds like there are going to be some mighty unhappy folks out there who ONE, did not have an AP, but "planned" to buy one later, or TWO, had an AP, but it was expiring and didn't plan to renew. I saw that as an openning for not even getting an AP. If you didn't need one at the time of ordering the card and you didn't need one when you used the card, then WHY get one at all.

I don't doubt that they may check a databse if you tell them you are an AP holder before processing. I told them I had an AP, and offered to give the code from the back, they said it wasn't necessary, they could verify it.

While they sent the email right away, it took several days for the charge to process on my credit card...which did indeed give them time to check a database.

Wow, I almost ordered one. I read that you did not have to be an ap holder or Fl. resident. What is going on here? I read it on a different site. It said that it was $75.00. I would have been really aggrivated if I bought one and couldn't use it.
:confused3 Tara :confused3
I read it on allears.net. it states as of Jan. 2005 that dde is now open to people outside of FL. It gives a general price of 75 and an ap price of 50. So I guess that the general price is for Fl. residents? How come so many simple things become so confusing? I am confuse enough with the new myw tickets. Way to many options for me.

Unfortunately the info that was given to an unofficial site was misinterprited and printed. Many people read it and thought it was true. Glad this is all cleared up, now!

I also called and spoke to Allison and made it clear I was not a FL resident or AP holder and she told me yes I could still buy it for $75. This is just ridiculous now. I wish Disney would get it together.

When did you call?

It's just like me calling 4 times in one day to price a 10 day package that is now available. It took 4 tries to get someone who read their updated information and yes there are now 10 day packages.

I'm kindof upset now. I talked my DH into going to V&A on our next trip b/c I was going to get this card. And I told my Dad about it (he's DVC) and he was all excited b/c when we all go he usually takes us (6 adults and 2 kids) out to dinner two or three times. He was excited it was going to save him some money. I have to go break the news to him. I knew I should have called last week for it.

Gah is that a Sheltie I spot in your sig?!?

Ok, this had me freaked out a bit since I'm a non-passholder who purchased the DDE card and my trip is less than 48 hours away.

So, I contacted Rosa Flores (director of the program) via email and telephone. Here are her email responses to me:

If you have already ordered the membership then you will receive the cards despite not being a Florida Resident or a Pass Holder.
This program was implemented beginning Jan 2, 2005 with very little notice to the two people answering the phones with little detail. Now that we have slowed down just a tiny bit and have received more information the DDE Membership is good for Pass Holders and Fl Residents only.

I'm sorry for the confusion.
If you would like a refund then please let me know.
If we already took your order you will receive your cards.
If there is anything else that I can answer please let me know.

Then, when I asked her if I would be denied benefits at the restaurants because I do not have an AP or Florida ID to show, she replied with this:

*************
No you won't be asked to show your annual pass or fl license. Previosly showing of the fl license was on the letter but that has been removed. All you need is the letter and once you get the cards, the cards will be the only thing to show.

Ok, so basically, if you were allowed to purchase the card then you CAN use the card. If you have not purchased it yet, then you MUST have and AP or Florida residency to purchase from this point on.

I called a week or so ago and am NOT a FL resident or AP holder. They took my $75 (Disney Credit Card), said it would come in the mail and have a "Disney Day."

I'm assuming from the last post, they will honor it. We are thinking about relocating to FL anyway, but I doubt by our April trip.

It really would be a wonderful savings for us. We have the DVC discount on several of our restaurant choices, but this would be way better... We'll see, I guess...

Ducklite is correct. The waitstaff will have to check the discount card against your Florida DL or AP, which is how they will determine if a guest is eligible for the discount. If neither are present, the discount will be denied.

I used it lots of times last week, and was often asked for my ID. Since lots of us who got it, will have AP's that expired during the use, we had some concerns when this was first offered. The gal on the phone said that while my AP was needed for the discount price for purchase, it was not needed to use it, and that only ID would be asked for (although one day, when I had not brought my waller into the park, I did ask if they would accept my AP for ID, and while I was told they were not supposed to, they would). We had not planned to renew our AP's (although now we are), so I was afraid I'd have a DDE card I couldn't use.

By reading this post though it seems as if anyone could still order it now and just tell the waitstaff that they sold it to me before they knew it was only for FL residents and passholders, albeit dishonest.

What a hassle that would be to have to go through that everytime and what happens if they refuse to honor it because they certainly can.

What a pain in the neck :headache:

I hope I'm able to buy one. We have PAP vouchers and will be activating them on our trip in April and was hoping to get the DDE as well, but if they now check your AP number, I don't have one yet since we can't activate them up here in Canada! Will they still let me buy one?? Thanks!

I purchased one the beginning of the week with only an AP voucher. No AP number was requested and I was told it would be $50. I received an email letter from Rosa to use for our trip next week. She said if I still had not received my cards by the time of our April visit that she would send another email letter for me to use as proof.

When I ordered mine, I told the gentleman on the phone my situation: I will be purchasing an AP after I get to WDW as I am getting it from the Shades of Green. I asked him would it still be possible to order my DDE even though I did not have my AP yet. "Yes, ma'am. We can get it ordered for you and when you pick up your AP, everything will be in the system." Did not question what all of that meant as things were going my way. He also asked me if I would like a 2nd card at no charge for my DH. Told him DH was not an AP holder. Not a problem. Finished the DDE info in a few minutes, gave him my CC # for the $50 charge, and was e-mailed the letter the following day.

We will be purchasing the AP on the day of arrival (next Saturday), so we are not cheating the system. But, my question is, will my husband be allowed to use his letter/card even if he does not have an AP?
