No Day But Today- FINAL post on page 40!

Crystal, as always I love your trip report...it's sad to see it coming to an end, but I'm happy to know you'll have another one after your trip in October!!!

Thanks for keeping me entertained!!!

Nice treasures you've got there so far...don't you love the EE pin? We're not normally big pin collectors but I had to buy that one when we were there in October.

Looking forward to seeing more of your stash! :thumbsup2

I have gotten into buying pins myself and don't dare to part with any of them. I'm even winning some on ebay now. It's a great, expensive hobby.

Crystal---Loved your report. I'm going to have to check out Adv Club on my next trip. Try one of those Kungalooshs and look out for Emil. I'm getting an AP soon and will be booking at AKL in Sept/Oct 07 if the rate is low enough. I was going to stay at WL, but my family wants to stay there when we go in Jan 08. My goal is to someday stay at all Disney resorts.

I have a question about renting points from a DVC member. How was the process? When you checked in at BCV, did you have any costs?

I would love to know more about renting DVC points, as well. I'm still pondering a mid-September trip and have been wondering if I could rent the points and stay at a nicer resort than I might normally be able to afford.

======================

Oh, I *finally* managed to get my photos down to a more manageable number (165 images) and they're posted online now, Crystal. The link is in my signature. None are as wonderful as the photos you captured, but these are some of my favourite Disney memories. Too bad we didn't take any pics during our evening adventures! Next time.

I admit that I came home and hunted down an Adv Club pin on e-bay when I got home, since it's been sold out for a while. I'm afraid that if I start buying pins on ebay, I won't stop! I do really want to find the Festival of the Lion King one that has a piece of a show costume in it, though....

There were no costs when I checked into BCV- both times I've rented points from members, it worked out where I paid them half of the cost up front, and half when they sent me the confirmation mail from Disney.

Basically you check the DVC Rent/Trade board, and either keep an eye out for listings that match what you want, or post a "reservation wanted" post with the details of what you're looking for. It can make you a little nervous, since you're dealing with a person, NOT Disney, so there's a certain amount of trust involved. I love getting to stay at the DVC resorts, though, especially for way cheap!

And Care- I love your pics! You got some really good ones- you have a good eye!

Thanks. I love taking photos of different things during my trip, and sometimes I get lucky with what I capture through the viewfinder.

Thanks for telling us about your DVC point renting experience. I'm definitely going to look into this further for my next trip!

By the way, I may have missed it in an earlier post, but did you end up sharing your MySpace address so we can all add you as our friend? Here's mine: http://www.myspace.com/carameltart and admittedly, I haven't been very good at updating my profile or getting all of my friends added.

After two days of almost constant reading--I have dial up so it takes forever for the pictures to load--I love your trip report! I had two days solo this past summer when my sister had left and my family was arriving. It was great! I also have a friend near Orlando who comes and visits me when I visit WDW. Anyway, you have inspired me to go solo again! I usually take my sister with me, but she is 20 and poor so I fund the entire vacation. I think this Dec. I may just have to make a trip by myself. Have fun in Oct.!

I just spent the entire day reading your TR from start to finish. I loved every minute of it, you are a gifted photographer. Thanks so much for sharing this with us!

I have enjoyed your trip report so much, I love the fact that everything you did you had a picture for it. I plan to spend a couple of solo days in the parks next week and you have inspired me! I can't wait to read your Oct. trip report and if you have any more pictures of your goodies you bought (including your necklace) me wants to see! Please....

Crystal, I have loved your trippie and am sad to have it end :(I have laughed...I have cried...

Thanks especially for the zebra dome piccies!

Looking forward to your pics of your other purchases! We head to WDW a week from Friday :woohoo:

Avast there, DIS-ers! It's the Dread Pirate Crystal, back with more treasures from afar!

(I didn't make the finals for the Disneyland trip, btw, so no free trip for me! Booo!)

Here are a few more things I picked up on my trip to the World:

Let's start with the nifty Kilimanjaro Safari scrapbook I picked up in Africa!

sb1.jpg

One thing I complain about is the lack of Scrapbook supplies at Disney. YES, I know they have a whole line of supplies, but it's really not enough! I know a lot of DISers are scrapbookers, and if Disney would just put out a wider line- papers and stickers themed to the major attractions, for example, they could make a TON of money off of us! So I was really excited to see this little book! It has around 20 pages, and includes two sheets of stickers:

sb3.jpg

And the papers alternate between two designs and a plain khaki colored paper:

sb4.jpg

sb5.jpg

Close-ups of the two papers

The pages are designed to slip in to each slot, so you could easily use a different paper if you wanted, or change the order around.

It would make a great book for a beginner scrapbooker- just stick your Safari pics on the pages, add some stickers, and voila! Sadly, I don't have 20 safari pictures that are good enough to use yet! :rotfl: I've really got to take a photography class one of these days!

At the same time I bought the scrapbook, I found a box of "vintage" looking Kilimanjaro Safaris postcards:

pcbox.jpg

It's hard to tell from the picture, but it's a really cute wooden box. The lid slides off, and inside are 10 postcards. Here's a sample:

I bought them with the intention of using them for scrapbooking, but they're pretty neat on their own!

Next, a couple of items from Asia:

patches.jpg

This photo isn't very clear, but it's a set of 5 patches themed to Everest. I have no idea what I'm going to put them on, but I thought they were neat!

(Not sure if they're acid-free, but if so, they would probably look awesome in a scrapbook, too!)

I filled up my current journal the day before I left for WDW, so it was my mission to find a new one! I saw this one on my Feb 06 trip, but didn't pick it up. I was so glad it was still there!

journal1.jpg

Those are camels on the front- I'm obsessed with camels and llamas, so I LOVE it!

Inside, it's mostly lined pages, but here and there throughout the book are pages describing various adventurers throughout the years!

journal2.jpg

Hehe, "adventurers throughout the years" makes me think that WDW should sell an Adventurers Club journal!

"Dear Diary-
Had a Kungaloosh tonight, and then went to the Hoopla. Emil is dreamy.
-Love, Crystal"

Okay, maybe not, but seriously, Disney, throw some club fans a bone here! We WANT to give you our money! Sell Adv Club T-shirts, shot glasses, postcards, pens, hats, coloring books, luggage, tote bags, picture frames, mugs, ANYTHING!

(I figure that maybe if I throw that rant out there at least once a week, maybe they'll notice eventually! :3dglasses )

So, while I didn't get any Adv Club souveniers this trip, I did find the coolest thing EVER!

Okay- pop quiz! Anyone know what my favorite ride at WDW is?

Did you say Everest? You win a cookie!

Pop Quiz #2! Who is my favorite Imagineer?

Did you say Joe Rohde? You win a dole whip!

So, what would be the coolest souvenier EVER?

evbook1.jpg

A book all about the making and mythology of Expedition Everest!!!!!!!

And who wrote most of it?

evbook4.jpg

AWESOME.

Hey, did I mention that I saw Joe Rohde on this trip? It may have slipped my mind to include it in the report.... :rotfl:

Speaking of which:

evbook3.jpg

If you're an Everest fan (or a Rohde fan, of course!) you've gotta pick up this book! There's so much neat stuff in here!

evbook2.jpg

A sample page

I found this book at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, btw. I don't remember actually seeing it at AK!

So, that wins for BEST souvenier- how about the one that gets the most at home? That, my friends, would be my dear friend Jack:

jacktea.jpg

I picked up this awesome Jack travel mug at Once Upon A Toy at DD Marketplace, and I am in LOVE!

I have learned not to pour boiling hot tea into Jack, because it makes him steam up, but otherwise, he is perfect!

Those black boxes behind him are eta that I ordered-- you may recall that I fell in LOVE with the Eros tea that I had at the Grand Floridian tea. When I got home, I looked everywhere for info on how to buy the teas served there, but found nothing! Finally I noticed the photo I had taken of the box of teas- it had the website printed on it! www.tealeaves.com, if you too are an addict! It's quite pricey- these three boxes cost me nearly $70, but some things are just worth splurging on! (And drinking yummy tea out of Captain Jack, while not classy, is priceless!)

I still have at least one more installment of treasures coming up! So, until next time, adventurers! :)

Woohoo, I'm first!:woohoo:

I've been lurking (although I did post once) throughout your TR and really enjoying the pix and writing. You've inspired me to take my camera with me next time I go (which would be the day after tomorrow) and maybe, maybe attempt a TR myself. I dunno though.. it would probably take me forever...I'm a bit of a hunter and poker (had to clean that up..its a family show) on the keyboard.

Thanks again for the entertainment and enlightenment.

It's so nice to see that someone else loves AK as much as I do. We seem to be a rather rare breed sometimes!

P.S.
I kicked butt on pop quiz #2. You owe me a dole whip, missy.

I too aced the pop quiz. But you can keep your dole whips :crazy2: Any chocolate mousse in your bag? I'll have some of that (although I hear it doesn't travel well)

I love the postcards - I love all that vintage looking stuff.

And if you ever want some wonderful high-quality loose tea and DON'T want to spend a fortune, check out adagio.com - I highly reccomend the Earl Grey Bravo, Assam Melody and Cream. Great stuff. Any money that does not go to Disney goes there. :rolleyes1

More loot! More loot!

Love the scrapbook and the postcards. I totally agree about the scrapbooking thing - I'm always disappointed when I go to Disney looking for supplies. I find more variety on the internet.

And Kungaloosh! I, too, want to spend money on silly AC stuff. :thumbsup2

Crystal I bought that great Everest book last May at the gift shop at EE. I thought it was a "limited edition". Maybe its all sold out at EE. So glad you found it at AKL. Isn't it cool?

Love the vintage postcards. I also love the patches but I too wonder what I'd do with them. Maybe I'll get a photographer's vest and cover it with all sorts of patches.

Crystal---I love the new "ad" for your upcoming trip (as well as the last one). How do you do those?

Great pics of your treasures as well! I can tell you're a diehard AK lover. I will have to take some more time there soaking it all in.
