hmm that would be quite the sight seeing u around the parks carying around a Katie animatronic and posing her every once in a while for pics. hahaha

Apparently, Crystal, you seem to have brought the fake Disney horses to life with your stellar picture taking skillz! :3dglasses

pirate: We wants the redhead! Oy! The redhead! :hyper:

(OK, so technically she's blonde...)

Y'all are a bunch of addicts! :rotfl: I love it!

My countdown clock will be down to less than 8 months soon! That's freaking forever! But this trip requires a lot of planning, so I'm glad I have time (I keep saying I feel like I'm pregnant with this trip, since it's 9 months of planning and waiting!)

But back to the trip that we're actually discussing here!

I swung by Splash Mtn to see how the refurb was coming along- this is one day that I really wish it had been open! A nice splashdown would have felt GOOD about now!

Poor empty boats!

I’m sure it will never happen, but I started thinking- how many of us would pay good money for the chance to walk through Splash while it was closed for refurb? Disney is missing out on a money-making opportunity here!

btmrr.jpg

BTMRR had a 40 minute wait this morning- I’m surprised it wasn’t longer since Splash wasn’t open to soak up (or just soak) half the crowd!

I decided to catch the train in Frontierland- I haven’t ridden it in forever, and it would give me a chance to sit down for a while, and hopefully stop feeling so icky!

There’s that wooden leg named Smith!

I took the train around to the Main St. station- I was sad that I hadn’t done much on my list of things to do today, but I knew I needed to take a break, or I would end up too sick to do anything the rest of the day!

Today’s bus entertainment was a conversation between a dad and a child across from me on the way back to BCV.

Child: Magic Kingdom doesn’t have a bunch of educational rides like Epcot, just two.

Parent: Which two?

Child: Hall of Presidents And Carousel of Progress

Parent: Well, it’s a small world is, kind of, it has different flags and cultures

Child: (exasperated) It shows dancing dogs!

A break at the BCV was exactly what I needed. I ate, I took a 15 minute nap, and read for a while, and felt MUCH better. It’s hard to give up two hours of your day when it’s your LAST day and you have a list of things a mile long that you want to do, but I think that giving up a couple of hours to rest saved me from getting really sick, so it was worth it!

One of the other major things on my to-do list today was a stop by the Ghiradelli store at Downtown Disney. My sister LOVES that stuff, and while I’d picked up some stuff at World of Disney for her daughters, I hadn’t picked anything up for her yet!

The window display in the pet stuff shop. I may or may not have spent $9 on a little jar of cat treats here. I would never admit to doing it, so you'll have to speculate! ;) (But how cute is it that Figaro, the cat on all of the disney pet stuff, looks a lot like my Tallulah?)

So THIS is where Stitch has been hanging out this whole trip! Humph!

I stopped back by the BCV after my DD trip to drop my stuff off and hang out for a little while- I had plans to meet up with some DISers for Illuminations at 8pm tonight, and it was 5:30, so I considered going over to MGM for a little while, but decided I’d rather just spend some time at BCV instead of only having an hour to spend at MGM.

I stopped in the Marketplace to get a gelato (they still didn’t have the pistachio I’d been wanting!), and tried to make up my mind between the chocolate and the almond. I finally decided on almond, and ordered a scoop. The woman working behind the counter kind of looked at me, and said “Almond?” She had an accent, so I thought that maybe she hadn’t understood, so I repeated it, and pointed to the almond gelato.

“You like almond?” she asked.
“Um, yes, the almond please.”
“Have you had it before?”
“Nope, not this flavor.”
“You like almond?”
(in my head) Just give me my flippin’ gelato, lady!
“Um, yes, I like almonds….”
“Would you like a sample?”

Where was the offering of a sample when I was standing here trying to pick a flavor? Oh well, sure! She scooped a little up with one of the funky gelato spoons, stuck it in a bowl, and handed it to me. I felt a little like a bug under a magnifying glass as she watched me eat it. It was pretty good- I liked it a lot better than the raspberry I’d had earlier in the week, so I told her that it was indeed what I wanted. She gave me a scoop, and as if she couldn’t resist, she had to ask again.

“You really like it?”
“Yeah, it’s good.” Um, lady, I just sampled it! If I didn’t like it, would I be ordering it?
“Really?”
Um, did you just drop the entire batch on the floor or something?
“Yeeeeessss….”
“I can’t stand the almond! Just thinking about it makes my skin crawl!”
“Oh…um… I like it.”

Okay, kids, lesson #1 about working in food service- after a customer has ordered something, it’s not a great idea to talk about how it disgusts you! Was this lady’s family attacked and tortured by almonds when she was a child or something? Crazy!

I was tempted to sit right there in front of her and eat it slowly, making yummy noises, but it was way too pretty outside, so I just grabbed a small bottle of water. When I got to the register to pay, the woman said that you could only get the small water with the kid’s meal. Wait, what? I’ve bought small bottles of water other places this week with no problem, why is it different here? Was this woman just crazy in the head? Is DDP going to take over the universe, and you’ll no longer be able to buy anything without it being part of a meal? I was very confused, but I just shrugged and got the large water instead. I’m still not entirely convinced that they weren’t both a little bit craaazy in the head! Was it crazy day at the BC Marketplace?

Armed with my gelato that had the power to bring normal people to the brink of insanity, I settled into a chair at one of the tables outside, and enjoyed just being somewhere warm in the middle of January. Eventually, a mother and little girl that looked about 4 sat at the table near me, each with a gelato of their own. (Although neither had almond- I bet Crazy Gelato Phobia Lady was happier about this order!) The little girl (cutest kid EVER) was excited, because she somehow remembered getting gelato with her mom and talking the last time they were at the resort, which from what I could tell by eavesdropping, had been at least a year ago (an eternity to remember something when you’re 4!)

After my gelato, I decided to take one last stroll around the Boardwalk- I really love this area!

I may try to stay at the Boardwalk Villas next time- Man, I really should have bought that DVC memebership!

Up next, an evening with some DIS people! (And guess who I get to see again? )

did I mention that I LOVE your pictures???

and your tr too!!!

;)

Hmm... Methinks you're referring to a certain Emil Bleehall whom we spent an hour (or was it longer) trekking all over Epcot-TTC-Poly to go see. :scratchin

I think it was more like 18 hours. We may STILL be on our way to Downtown! (Hmm, I wonder if our new friend ever made his way back to his resort? For all we know, he's still wandering!)

looks like somebody didn't realize you can't get a bus to DTD from a park or TTC.

Yes, it did seem rather long getting from Epcot to DD. Of course, in the spirit of the AC, we did manage to have our own little adventure along the way. Traipsing from the TTC to Poly, and meeting our new friend with the delicious accent. I hope he eventually made his way back to his hotel. Perhaps we should have invited him along for the adventure... If you see him still waiting for the bus on your Disneyween trip, then perhaps we never did make it to the AC and we're both still wandering around the parks/resorts looking for a bus to DD...

I did the College Program in summer of 1992, and Splash Mountain wasn't QUITE up and running yet. The last few weeks before it opened, Disney ran the ride with empty boats, and I'll never forget the hoards of people who stood on the bridge video-taping the empty boats taking the plunge!

Cast members, of course, where the first guinea pigs, so we got to ride it prior to the soft opening. That was a little like walking through while it's being refurbished. Sometimes all the animatronics worked . . . sometimes they didn't. Seeing it while the Imagineers were working out the last kinks puts a strain on your suspension of disbelief. (One of the main reasons you aren't holding out any hopes seeing a ride while it's being refurbished, I'll bet.)

ANYWAY, it was funny to see the looks on the faces of the folks video-taping the empty boats when, SUDDENLY, one of the boats wasn't quite so empty!

I think all the people who work at the BC Marketplace are "tetched" in the head... at least based on our experiences there in October.

And the DDP...the correct answer is there is no correct answer. :lmao:

Love your pictures, as usual they are stunning. :goodvibes
