So glad that the trip report has begun...your reports always make me laugh...especially any mention of Strongbad and Joss Whedon...

No Strong Bad on this trip, but Trogdor does make a cameo later!
I had to look back at my photos to see how often Katie was there- losing my memory in my old age!
She came from around 6-10pm on two days, from 1-9pm on another day, and then for a couple of hours another night for an Adv Club outing. So maybe 18 hours out of the trip? Other than that, I was solo, except for a night I met up with some DIS-ers (but more on that later!)

Part 2- Day 1 Has Begun!
Good morning, fellow adventurers! I still seem to be on the Disney sleep schedule, so I was awake at 8:30 this morning- eep! Ive got plenty of free time, so Im munching a piece of chocolate from the German pavilion, and thought Id move on to Day 1!
Mickey and Stitch woke me up (yep, still the Stitch wakeup call, for those who are wondering!) around 7am on Jan 9th. I was determined to get to MK for opening today, so an early start was a must! If I hadnt been so determined to make it for opening, I would have happily slept at least another hour.
Ive been dreaming about the yummy chocolate croissants, so I set off for the food court in search of chocolatey goodness!
The walk there was beautiful this morning- cold (The weather claimed that the high for the day was in the 60s and low in the 30s- brr!)

I noticed this sign by the pool-
Are those new? Its nice that they now put the rules out there!
I was bummed to find out they didnt have the yummy chocolate croissants any more! They used to have the ones that were croissant shaped with chocolate on the outside, but now they just have the squarish ones with chocolate inside. Oh well, it will work!
I flipped through the tv channels while I ate and got ready for the parks, and came across the commercial Ive heard tell of on another board- this guy really loves his appliances!
If youve been there lately, you probably recognize it!
Dont you love how at the beginning of your trip, even the bus rides are exciting? I think that the real reason I love taking the Disney busses is that everyone on board is talking about the parks. If only I could get on a bus at home and have the people on my left discussing Epcot, and the ones on my right talking about Everest!
My grand plan to make it to MK for opening kind of worked, kind of didnt. I could see the opening ceremony going on as the bus pulled up to the park- crap! I dashed from the bus stop, video camera in hand, and managed to catch most of it. I really am no good at getting to park openings!
After a quick stop at guest services to get my AP reprinted (my old one had an unfortunate run in with some coffee in my car- although I have no idea why I was keeping my AP in my car), I was in the MK! (At 8:59, baby!)

Pirates is always my first ride at MK, and this time I was really looking forward to it, thanks to the addition of a certain Captain Jack Sparrow!
The CMs loading the boats now make an announcement about no flash photos. I tried really hard to get a non-flash one of Jack, but had no luck. I did manage these two, though!
I might as well have just used flash, because the lady in the front of my boat certainly used hers! Every ten seconds, flash! Flash!

The park was super empty this morning! Pirates was a walk on, and I got a ton done in the first hour!
I headed over to Haunted Mansion, passing through Frontierland on the way. Again, no people anywhere!
I love the theming here- this was a cart that wasnt yet open for business. Cute!

The River of Filth! In the era represented by Liberty Square, there wasnt a sewer system, and people would just dump their dirty water outside, creating a river of filth running down the street, represented here by the murky colored river of concrete in the middle of the pathways. (Yay for the Keys to the Kingdom Tour!)
And now, partly due to the DIS limit on how many pictures you can stick in one thread, and partly because Im hungry and need to go make some lunch, we must pause our tale here!
Coming up next- the Haunted Mansion, a surprise at the WL, and a somewhat anticlimactic end to the first day. (Oooh, do I know how to sell suspense or what?)

Loving your TR. I was at MK on the 10th and 11th and it was just like in your pics in the mornings, no one at all. In fact we were done with everything that we wanted to do that day and all of the next day except for 2 rides, by 1pm. We ended up going and checking out the MK resort hotels and fell in love with Poly. We literally walked on every attraction threre all week long....cant wait for your next installment.

Thank you for introducing me to the River of Filth! I was previously unaware. Neat-o. I love all the pictures, especially the one of the croissant. That there is one beautiful croissant.
Is it pathetic that I look forward to your trips almost as much as my own? Yes, I think it is. Well hey, all those great pictures trick my brain into thinking it was there with you, and I get to avoid all the airplane travel & money spending parts. Splendid!

Love the new installment. The appliance direct guy freaks me out. And for some reason my fiancee watches him sometimes. I think there are subliminal messages so you can't turn away. If you didn't by direct, you payed to much.

Part 3- Day 1 Continued
When we last left off, I was on my way over to the Haunted Mansion. To visit. The 999. Happy Haunts. Who live there. In the mansion. Place. In the Magic. Kingdom. At Disney. World. Theme Park. In Florida. On Earth. In the Milky Way. Galaxy. TFI.
(Holy crap, I think I just gave myself a migraine writing that! How does Mel do it??)
Okay, what was I saying?
Oh yeah, Haunted Mansion, baby!

Im still not quite sure what this CM was doing!
I caught her with her eyes open!
I had a little luck here with the non-flash photography- heres Master Graceys portrait, before it turns old. (Someone walked in front of my camera as I tried to snap the older version!)
Stretching Room
I always love visiting those happy haunts- my ghost host seemed to be losing his voice, though- the speaker in my doombuggy only worked about half the time!
Since it was still only 45 minutes after the park opening, I thought I would head over to Fantasyland to visit some of the rides that get much more crowded later in the day. I was able to do Peter Pan, Small World, and Pooh all right in a row, with a wait of only about 5 minutes for Pan, and walking on the other two. Im loving this no crowds thing! (I did take video on all three rides that will be up sometime soon, in one form or another!)
I also took the time to snap a few photos of Fantasyland as I wandered around:
I love how the castle seems to peek out from behind the rooftops of the nearby shops.
Ive heard that the sword in the stone ceremony no longer takes place, but the sword is still here!
Does anyone happen to know what this is? Ive never heard of it!
Workers putting some last touches on the new Cinderella Castle suite!
I was chomping at the bit to go check in at WL, but I wanted to wait a little longer, so that it would at least be after 11am, so I decided to catch Mickeys Philharmagic. This is my favorite of the 3D movies- I dont think Ill ever get tired of it!

It was so nice of them to name a restaurant after me!
These guys were having a great time in the water near the castle.

And now its time to head across Bay Lake, to check in to the Wilderness Lodge, where a surprise was waiting!

If you just google search for Disney fonts, it should come up. I think it's just called Walt Disney Font? Or it might be Waltograph? I don't have it on my laptop, or I'd check!

I made a handy dandy chart (that I posted back in the pre-trip) and stuck it in my passporter...and forgot about it. Oops! I should pull it out while I'm writing the report and see if I actually made it to any of his recommendations!

HAH I loved the Mel reference. I read like the first couple of words and thought of her before I realized what you were doing.. so mission accomplished! You'd think her style of writing would be annoying but I LOVE it! I wish she would update her reports. She disappeared!
