No daily contact with teachers!

My DD's school just began a new procedure just like this. The kids have (yet another) code to memorize and our cars have that code in the front dash. The kids all sit inside and a teacher walks up the line calling the #'s out on a walkie-talkie. Then small groups of kids are brought out, lined up, and we drive into marked spaces and pick them up. So far it's been a complete nightmare...though I know with time, it will get better. But I am disappointed not to at least get to say Hello to her teacher. I understand some parents would like to talk and talk and talk...I'd just like to say "Hi Mrs. ****, have a good weekend!" or whatever.

They've also changed the dropping off procedure...and I refuse to follow this one. They have specific sides of the parking lots for age groups. My oldest catches a bus to go to the magnet school (they don't have K there) so I drop him off in the back. I refuse to go through that line and then go all the way around to get in another line. I just have DS walk DD up to the door and then he goes to his bus.

I agree with many other posts about finding alternative ways to communicate with your child's teacher. I never have been one to walk into the school during drop-off/pick-up times because I know it's a busy time for students/teachers....plus I've always had at least 2-3 little ones with me! Notes sent in the folder work really well for us. And instead of kissing them goodbye at their door to start their day off I put a note in their lunches everyday...so they get that "I love you" message!
