Keep calling until the day you want gets here and call that day too! People change their plans all the time and if they change what park they are going to for that day, they might just change their ADR as well, I have changed mine quite a few times already for our upcoming August trip.....things might open you never know.
YEah! I'm supposed to go within 4 days....we just got a good deal on tickets (and my husband is there for a cardiology conference) so we decided to go....but no chef mickey's or ohana! I did get at the cape cafe may and also the fresh mediterranean place...both has Goofy....but my toddler loves MICKEY (who doesnt?!!) :-(
May is slower than some other months, but since the advent of the dining plan, you really need to book character meals far in advance, no matter what time of year you're going.
CM and 'Ohana were probably booked up several months ago.
I agree with Lynne M. The parks should be very manageable, however since the DDP has gotten so incredibly popular, you can have deserted parks and very crowded restaurants. At the more popular places, and both of these are in the top 10, there is no slow time anymore. People can and do book 180days in advance. Even calling two months early is often too late, let alone just a week. I called last Saturday at my 180 day mark, got what I wanted but ended up having to change the times on a few, six full months out! And O'Hana was one of them(couldn't get any dinner before 7:15). I would keep trying but not get my hopes up.
I will be at those restaurants on 5/31, and 6/2... I made my ADR on 12-2 at 7 a.m.~ I know sometimes it's hard to plan in advance, but when you don't, how can you expect to just slide right in to a popular place?

Wow! Happy Mother's Day! When DH asked what I wanted to do for Mother's day, I jokingly told him that I wanted to go to breakfast at Ohana! Quite an expensive brunch, considering we are in PA. Enjoy yourself! I'll be thinking about you from here!

Thank You!
Since I could not get Chef Mickey, I had already booked The Garden Grill for an early lunch on 5/11. I just didn't find it to appetizing when I went for X-mas. But since it's "veggie" mom this time going with me and my son, she will probably enjoy it more....To tell you the truth, I just go for the Characters!
Show up before they open and leave your name, we got lucky when we did this. There were no openings for our whole trip!!! I showed up half an hour before they opened and we got in. Good luck!!
