I have a friend who just told me NOT to be disappointed by the castle at DL... she said it's not a castle at all but a wall. Is this true:confused:

LOL! It's definitely a castle!

It's a lot smaller than the castle at WDW, but still lovely. Here's a photo of Walt walking through the Disneyland castle, to give you a sense of its scale.

Define wall LOL :) I suppose one could say that it is a huge, castle shaped collection of walls???

I'm sure you've seen pictures of the castle, it looks exactly like that. It's 'deep' enough to house a small shop on each side of the walkway (whatever it's called, the little archway under the castle). Then it opens up into fantasyland. The castle walls 'continue', I suppose you could say, and morph into the facades to the fantasyland attractions. Honestly, I've never ONCE looked at the castle and thought of it as 'just as a wall'. Sure it's not a multi room palace, but I can't imagine anyone expecting it to be either

She said it was like a foam wall. (she was there YEARS ago, but I don't think it's changed) She said she remembered it as walking into a 10 inch wall and then she was out the other side. I'm just wanting NOT to be too disappointed.

Um, no. It's maybe like walking through a 15 foot wall into a grand (though open air) pavillion of beautiful buildings/ride fronts. It's probably made of fiberglass I would suppose (though I have no clue LOL, I've never really thought about it!). It's nicely painted to resemble a real fairytale castle, though you won't be invited into the grand ballroom or anything :lmao: Honest, unless you're expecting some authentic European castle, you won't be the least bit disappointed.

In the "old days" - pre 9/11 - you could go inside the castle to a little picture diarama story of Sleeping Beauty - it is a real castle and has real "rooms" inside.

haha, she must have not seen the castle during the fireworks... if it was a foam castle, it would melt in the fireworks display XD

I think the real question here is: Is the castle/wall/whatever enough to make a little "princess" happy that she's seen a real castle?
Enquiring minds want to know.

She's pulling your leg. It's definitely a real castle, albeit a small one compared to the one at WDW.

It's a real castle. When I was little we used to climb up the stairs through the catsle and see the story of Sleeping Beauty. I believe they had to close that down due to requirements for handicap access... it was a VERY narrow stair way. I remember being so excited as a kid that I was in THE castle!

Thanks! That's what I needed to know.
Little "princess" (and us) making first trip to DL next year.

LOL

I don't know why people say these things. Less that a week after I came back from DL my brother told me he heard the castle was just a wall that had plywood on the back. Like Disney would just decorate the front of something and leave the back plywood :rotfl: . I explained to him I had just seen the castle 4 days before that and there was no plywood to be seen

Here's a pic of the castle that I took this month. It's decorated for Christmas. I promise it is not just "a wall". ;)
