staying at pofq, bc, and bwv. must have bottled water, diet rite (no aspartame), and other atkins stuff. isn't there one close to DTD, maybe take bus/boat there, walk to it, load up and take cab back?

might need to make a couple of trips during 10 day stay. maybe just take a cab there and back, but nearest publix appears to be about 15 minutes away.

suggestions?

thanks.

This might help -

Pre-Order and Pick Up - The Albertson's supermarket at 12981 S. Orange Blossom Trail (Orange Blossom Trail exit from SR 417) will allow you to fax a list to them at (407) 857-0132. They will have your order packed and ready to pick up! You can call them at (407) 857-5666 for hours and details.

If you did that, you could just have the cab wait while you ran in and grabbed your order. I'm not sure how close it is, though!

HTH.

If you use a towncar service from the airport to WDW, most do a grocery stop (be sure to check before booking) at Albertson's or Publix. Some are 15 minutes, others are 30.

Goodings, an independent grocery store, is a decent taxi ride from WDW (take WDW transportation to DTD, then a taxi to Goodings). They are very expensive compared to chain grocery stores--priced somewhere in the higher end of convenience stores and upscale grocery stores in our area. Except for things specifically tourist oriented (styrofoam coolers, etc.)--then they are four to ten times higher! But if you just need a few things, they are okay.

thanks all. i've got to give a hand to www.mousesavers.com. i believe that i can use the public bus system to hit grocery stores, eat out, etc. line 56 goes from the disney transportation center east on 192 all the way to the mall. also 50, goes 535 and then up 4 to the downtown bus station. if i could pack light enough, i could even take the bus from the airport to the downtown main station and then transfer to 50 line to go to the transportation center. and, all for 1.25 one way or $7 weekly pass. might not make sense for a family but for this solo traveler, it certainly does. i simply do not want to pay for a car and the insurance (that i would have to take as i have no collision insurance on my own policy). and, i think i'll need to make only 2-3 trips. PLUS, i have always enjoyeds the sense of confidence one gains in figuring out how to get around cheaply in a 'strange land.' plus, perk 2...i will enjoy seeing the sights along the way.

if this WON'T work to hit publix on 192, someone tell me please!

well, that just cool about the publix locatton. i have been to the lynx site (found on the wonderful mousesavers.com), and i looked at this route, route 50, and route 11. i have given some thought to taking the lynx from the airport to dowtown to the disney transportation center to magic kingdom to pofq, but think that will be a bit much. i would love to say that i did it, but i think i would regret it. i'll be there 10 days, plan to take mears to the resort, dump luggae, head to transportation center, see if i can buy a week pass there. then, i can head out as needed.

isn't this fun and a creative alternative to my spending so much on a car rental or even taking cabs.

I think you're very clever to have come up with this idea, and saving quite a bit of money at the same time! I'm wondering if you could invest a few dollars on one of those totes with wheels to help you in transporting your groceries. Just thought I would throw that out there for consideration. Good luck! :wave2:

Why, thank you, Miss Maxine!

I must say, I AM kinda' proud of myself here. If this works, then I'll save LOTS this year as I have bought an AP and plan on making three trips between August and May.

I've done this other places too; it's kinda fun to figure it out. You have to think that locals HAVE to get around somehow. And, think how many relatively low income people must work at WDW. Bus system gets them there! And, I not only do I not mind, I actually ENJOY livin' like the locals.

Mousesavers.com is great and so is the Lynx Bus Site. There is also a trollley that runs the length of International Blvd. See www.iridetrolley.com. I bet it would be fun just to take a ride on it to and see all the sights. I bet it is even 'free' with a Lynx Week Pass.

Have you thought about having your groceries bought and delivered to your resort?? Another poster here gave me the idea and suggested a company that does this called we go shop, their website is www.wegoshop.com. They will buy exactly what you ask them to at exactly the store you ask them to go. They charge 20.00 to purchase and deliver your items, up to $100.00, they only charge an additional $5.00 for every additional store you request your items from. It may not be for you but I kind of liked the idea of not having to get out and do the drudgery of the weekly grocery run, sorry, but it really gets to be a chore for me sometimes. BTW, I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this to you but I shop at Walmart for all our groceries,I'm not sure if it's true in Orlando but they have the cheapest prices on everything around my town. Plus if you have to do the shopping on your own, they have lots of Disney and Fl souvenirs, at good prices too. We usually visit the Walmart at some point during our trip but we also drive down, so we don't have the same worries. Hope you can find some of this info useful.
Kim

Ps: the Walmart where I live carries a wide variety of Atkins products

I forgot to tell you that the Walmart is located on Hwy 192, which is also referred to as the Irlo Bronson Memorial Hwy. It is right beside the Medieval Times Restaurant HTH

This also has the most restaurants on this road. We mostly drove on it while we were there

We ate at the Damon's Grille, Sonny's BBQ,& Olive Garden

thanks. i did think about delivery, but i'm staying at three different resorts over 10 days. don't want to haul stuff, plus, i don't rteally need that much stuff, but what i need, i REALLY need, e.g., Diet Rite Colas (Splenda). i also have been eating at my local publix deli...great fried chicken (if you get it when it comes out), take the skin off (carbs), super atkins meal (combined with their unsweetened tea). so, i actually will like getting out to do the shoppping. may even hit wal-mart,a but publix for sure.

appreciate the info.

Good morning!

I agree about the drinks with Splenda. I had to get off of the aspartame, and switched to the Splenda. I love the diet White Grape flavor by Diet Rite. Our local discount grocery store also carries their store brand in diet drinks made with Splenda, and they rival the taste of Diet 7-Up, and Diet Mtn. Dew, and Diet Dr. Pepper.

I think you're going to have so much fun exploring on the local transportation. My mother and I did this in San Francisco one summer, and rode on the city transportation almost everywhere. We got lost a few times, but had fun seeing all the sights. The adventure is just part of the fun! Just remember to be safe and careful. :wave2:

OOOOHHHH. what private label (store brand) is this with splenda? i tried bi-lo's splenda private label cola, and i was not impressed. but, i love diet coke (and i still miss it). i like all the diet rite flavors, even the cola is ok. i keep them all in my fridg and like to switch out.

thanks for your support and info in all. barb

I'm looking....................looking.................nope, I don't have any here. I guess I drank them all! LOL!!!! The store name is Sav-a-Lot, but I can't remember the name of the sodas. I'll go by there today, since it looks like I need to restock. I agree about other drinks with Splenda. Some of them have a funny twang or something, but the drinks from the store here are great. I think the price on them is about $1.80 a 12 pack, so they're pretty cheap, too.

Keep looking for the Splenda drinks, because I'm noticing more and more places starting to carry their own line of diet drinks. If there is a drink machine out front of the store, maybe you could try one and find out about the taste before investing in a 12 pack.

When are you going to POFQ? I'll be there on the 10th of this month.

aug 5, 6, 7 POFQ (AP discount, king riverview at $99 night), then four nights at BWV (renting points) and three nights at BCV (renting poitns),never stayed AT ANY!!! i'm an okw member from 1993, but haven't been home in five years (broke, renting points, etc.). but i've bought an AP and I'm 'hungry' to go back. now also putting together a before-Christmas trip...have 12/19-12/24 BCV booked (renting points), trying to find a SS studio for 12/12-12/19 now.

it the year of DISNEY!

thanks for the tips about splenda. i cannot believe that Coca-Cola and Pepsi are totally ignoring this market (i'm a marketing professor). coke is even putting aspartame now in TAB!!!
