DH and i will have just 2 days and want to try a signature dining restaurant. Because it's such a short trip, we don't want to spend 2 hours travel time to get there. The day we want to go, we'll be at MK in the afternoon and Epcot or MK at night . What are you're sugesstions? TIA

First, the Signature restaurants have a business casual dress code. Will you be bringing clothes to change, just wearing nicer clothes all day, or returning to your room to change for dinner?

Where are you staying?

You can get around by cab very easily on property.

What type of food do you like? Would you prefer a quieter place or someplace that's busy and can be a bit noisy?

We're staying at OKW and will probably return to the resort to change in the afternoon. Noisy/quiet-no preference :) TIA

If you're at Magic Kingdom:
California Grill at the Contemporary (monorail, walk, or launch), or
Narcoosee's or Citricos at the Grand Floridian (monorail or launch), or
Artist Point at Wilderness Lodge (boat).

If you're at Epcot:
Yachtsman Steakhouse at the Yacht Club (walk), or
Flying Fish at the Boardwalk (walk).

In that case, pretty much anywhere. Here's a rundown and our opinions...

Citrico's--arguably the most sophisticated menu on property apart from V&A's. Excellent food and service in a causually elegant atmosphere, and not as many kids as you'll find in other WDW signatures. Located in the GF. Not much view, if you have a window seat you'll see the GF courtyard. A very few windows have a very of the higher MK fireworks. Nice winelist. Generally excellent service with a Mediterreanean flair to the menu.

Narcooses at the GF. We've eaten there three times and won't be back. The food might have improved recently since Chef Grey formerly at Citrico's is now the Chef at Narcooses, but our complaints were more with poor service than food. It can get noisy, and probably has more kids than many other signature establishments. Service is the reason we won't be back. Seafood and to a lesser degree, steaks.

The California Grill. A spectacular view from the 15th floor or the Contemporary, one set of windows looks over the MK, the other views Epcot and Bay Lake. That said, not all tables get window seats, and the open kitchen can be alarmingly noisy. Unfortunately far too many families drag over tired kids who have never eaten in a nicer place than Friendly's there after they are over tired and over stimulated and would rather have a burger and bed, creating a far from romantic and peaceful atmosphere. Service can be hit and miss. Asian influend Californian cuisine and an exceptional, award winning wine list.

Artists Point at the WL. A slightly eclectic Pacific Northwest cuisine featuring buffalo steak as well as a variety of beef, pork, and fish entrees. Great service in an airy, casually sophisticated atmosphere. Ask to be seated in the far wing, it's generally the quietest and they try to not seat as many kids there. The berry cobbler is to die for! (DH and I just ate there Friday night.) The wine list is exclusively pacific Northwest, and rather good.

The Yachtsmans Steakhouse at the YC has recovered from a several year slump and serves excellent steaks and chops in a classic steakhouse restaurant. You'll sometimes catch Disney big wigs dining here (as well as Jiko and Citrico's). A reasonable wine list and excellent desserts top off well cooked food. Service is generally very good.

The Flying Fish (this is the only place we haven't dined at on this list) at the Boardwalk offers--you guessed it, fish. It gets good reviews and generally seems pretty busy, there are one or two "landlubber choices" on the menu.

Todd English's Blue Zoo. (Not a WDW run restaurant, it's at the Dolphin, but worth noting) Great eclectic menu with a twist on deafood and steak, decent wine list. Service was exceptionally good. No view and out table felt a bit small, but the food and service compensated well. One of the better meals we've had at WDW. No kids menu and free childcare at the Dolphin Kids Club gets the point across, kids aren't terribly welcome there.

Shula's Steakhouse. (Not a WDW run restaurant, it's at the Dolphin, but worth noting) Very dark wood and indirect lighting gives this a "Boy's Club" feel. It was a little too testosterone laden, with the menu printed on footballs and slabs of beef brought to your table for inspeaction. The prices were exceptionally high, and portions too large for many, with a mandatory sharing fee on anything but the sides, which you are encouraged to share. Service was good, wine list is adequate. No kids menu and free childcare at the Dolphin Kids Club gets the point across, kids aren't terribly welcome there.

Bistro de Paris--nestled above Chef's de France in Epcot, this is the only theme park restaurant with a dress code. The tables are bit close, service and food are both good but not exceptional. Nice wine list including decent chanpagne by the glass. No kids menu should be a hint.

Jiko at the AKL offers excellent foods with an African flair. The wine list is exceptional, and almost exclusively African. The melt-in-your-mouth filet is superb with it's red wine reduction and bed of macaroni and cheese, yes, really! The atmosphere is nice, although it can get noisy and there tend to be more children here than a lot of the other Signatures. Ask to be seated in the wine room for a quieter meal.

I think that's all of them...

A cab is always an option. You can pretty much get between any two places on property for under 10 bucks. Again, not the cheapest option, but if you're considering your time, it might be the best option.

Thanks everyone. we've at least narrowed it down to 3, and 2 of them are the most difficult to get to ( AP and Jiko  )
