Welcome to No Buy!

The point of this thread is to keep track of your discretionary spending on each day of the month. The goal is to have as many $0 days as possible.

The beauty of this challenge is that each person gets to set their own spending goals and choose how they would like to post their results. Most people choose to post their spending for each day on a daily basis, as well as keep a running total of the monthly spending. Some people break it into categories, while other people do not. You can also list exceptions to your spending, such as holiday purchases or vacations. It is entirely up to you!

This will be one of the tougher months of the year, so GOOD LUCK to everybody! :grouphug:

I am going to hop on this train this month. Last month I was just lurking but I am going to try it this month....I am done my christmas shopping so I think it might be a bit easier but my down fall will be BLACK FRIDAY!!!!:scared1: Its my favorite day of the year!!!!:rotfl: I am going to set only 2 goals this month for myself....have at least 2 zero spending days in a week and try to stop all the un neccessary spending. I am starting slow so if I can get 2 days a week where I dont spend money, I can go from there...good luck to everyone!:yay::yay:

I'm in again and I actually have a budget set for this month

$300 for Groceries and household items. Hoping to keep it to under $50 a week but have given myself a small leway for emergencies
$100- Dining out and entertainment
$100 for gas
$100 emergency fund for doctor's visits and other emergencies.

You started the new month, Great.

I am in again with a total budget for November of $500 plus Christmas.

Groceries - $200
Automobile - $50
Giving - $50
Medical - $50
Eating Out - $25
Misc. - $125
Then I have a separate budget for Christmas - $426 / $76 left

I am here!

I am going to up my grocery budget and lower my eating out budget!

Running Total: $750

Groceries- $300
Gas- $150 (really have no way of controlling this, but I like to keep my eye on it..maybe a tad higher this month, as we are taking a trip to Michigan for Thanksgiving)
Eating Out- $100
Misc. (Shopping/Entertainment) $200

I have a goal to have 15 $0 days this month!!

Wow, November already!

Budget this month will be $300 but that will include Christmas gifts (3 nephews) and one birthday gift (one of the 3 nephews) for next month. I also need a new passport which expires next year so if I end up going overseas sooner than our trip next September, I'll need to get that too so need to keep that in mind.

1st - $15 for dinner out & $5 at a school fair ($1 for a Winnie the Pooh mug, $2 box of books, $2 bag of clothing)

I am going to keep the same goals for this month as I did for last month.

$0 Day Goal: 15
Money Goal: $600 for food, gas/car maintenance, and miscellaneous.

Exceptions: Gift spending falls into a different category that I don't include on here.

Comparisons:
September: 11 $0 Days, $1,131.46 spending.
October: 17 $0 Days, $702.00 spending <<Much improved! :cheer2:
November: :confused3

300 for food in month????? is that per person iknow i spend 800-900 in food and house soap stuff for family of 4

Gonna jump in head first this month. I had a bad month in October.

Groceries- $105.85 (very low grocery budget but we will also have the AFM box of food, dh will be out of town a week of the month which means very cheap dinner nights for kids and I and Thanksgiving as well as the leftovers. We don't host TDay dinner, only bring a side dish so it's not an expense, but the opposite and will help reduce grocery bill. We also still have a pretty stocked pantry and freezer, I'm just going to have to get creative)
AFM- $30 (no fruit or specialty meats interested me this month) ETA: I forgot I have a $10 Target gift card I can get a couple of things with too.
Gas- $250 I am hoping to go way under on this one

1- $0
2- $36.82 of gas money
3- $18.67, $6.67 for dinner. :( (wasn't in budget, have to pull from somewhere else)
4- $5 not doing so good..didn't have groceries for lunch so had to send my son a $5 check for lunch money
5- $0
6- $37.99 Dinner out
7-

I am going to try this also this month. My goal is to have 15 zero spending days.
My other goal is to not buy any more clothes for DD5 this month
I am done with her Christmas Shopping, so I will also make another goal not to buy her anything else this month for Christmas, I keep buying as I keep seeing things and it gets out of control.

I am really excited to try this, thanks for getting the new month started up so fast.

Hi there! :wave2: I haven't done this since May... where I totally fell off the wagon. Summer in Chicago is just too much fun! I also traveled a bunch (Canada, WDW!). :cool1:

Anyway, I have a great new job (quit old one May 1), with a varying commute of up to 100+ miles a day, :drive: so I'm just accepting the fact that I have to buy a whole lot of gas now. I combine my errands with my commute home, so I don't do a lot of extra driving. :car:

I haven't particularly figured what my goals are going to be yet, so I think I'll simply track what I'm spending and try to keep everything under $300 for the month. Food, toiletries, going out, miscellaneous. :teacher:

I am in desperate need for some appropriate work pants, and need to often pick up a few odds & ends for the new job. Not sure if that will be included in the $300 or if I'll start up a separate budget. We'll see how this month works out!

Looking forward to No Buy November! :goodvibes

I'm in, Oct was really bad for me. I have my Dad's condo to pay for until it sells, carpet to install in two rooms so I could sell the big house and two poor pitiful me shopping sprees that were ridiculous, but did make me feel better. Money is flowing out faster than I can make it, I keep telling myself I'll catch up next year.

Groceries - 80 (I also have $50 in gift cards and a house full of food.)
Eating Out - 15 (eating out with work friends 3 times in Nov for lunch)
Cats - 30
Gas - 65 (bumping this up just a smidge)
DD Loot - 30 (pull ups and wipes)
Christmas - $280 left to spend
Misc - $40

This month is the start of a new lifestyle for me and kiddo.

sure wish you'da said that BEFORE I went after Halloween shopping this morning! $265 later!!...

ok, i can start NOW? :rotfl:

Nope, its for the whole family...the 3 of us, well 4 including the cat. We are lucky and have a very good grocery store that I found called Joe Caputo & Sons. I get my all my produce from them. I usually can get a lb of deli meat for 3.99/lb. Broccoli for 39 -79 cents/lb. We eat alot of whole grain noodles as they fill you up and are really cheap. A box last week of Penne was 79 cents. Our son really likes Jenni-o turkey franks, and I can usually find these for 1.00 a package. I just really watch prices and stock up when things are cheap. Good Luck! :thumbsup2

You can list that shopping as an exception! ;)

The way I see it, No Buy is about building new habits, not beating yourself up for the past!

I am off to a great start.

$300 for Groceries and household items. Hoping to keep it to under $50 a week but have given myself a small leway for emergencies
$100- Dining out and entertainment
$100 for gas
$100 emergency fund for doctor's visits and other emergencies.
