No Buy May! Welcome old and new savers!

I've been lurking on the DisBoards FOREVER, but this is the first time that I've built up the courage to post a response. We've been working off of a written budget for a few years now, but I'm starting "simple" for this month's challenge. We're trying for 15 no-buy days, but hoping to beat that. This goal will help me to be more conscious of our spending, and plan ahead for our wants and needs for the month. Next month, I'll work on posting $-specific goals for our budget categories. Thanks for giving me a venue to track our goals. Michelle

Count me in! I am out of work, trying to get on disability and need to start learning to budget like never before. I'm going to give it some thought and post back tomorrow with my goal for no $ days and a budget for groceries, etc.
What do you guys think is a good goal for no$ days for a first timer?

I love the freshness of a new month!
I have been here since October and have paid alot to debt! Since January I have paid over $10,000 towards debt! Hoping soon to be completely out of cc debt and starting to work on our DVC loan debt.

Welcome to all the new faces! And Hi to all the vets! :thumbsup2

I think 10 is a good goal for your 1st time...it is amazing to see how often we actually buy things!

I think I'm ready to give this a shot.

After paying all neccessary bills, I am budgeting about $900 for miscellaneous spending.

I'd like to try for 10 no buy days , and spend no more than $150 for groceries.

I think the groceries thing will be the hardest, because of my soda addication. When the chips are down, I will buy it even if it is not on sale.

April was my first month participating and I really did not do well at all. Not only did I not make my goal for No Buy days, but on the days I did spend I splurged A LOT!!! This month I really want to be better, though it's not starting out so well... I'm also going to try to be more organized in describing my spendings, so I can keep track better and set category-specific goals.

No Buy Days Goal: 0/12

Welcome to Dis board posting!!! Good luck on your goals!!:goodvibes

I just started last month and set my goal at 10 no buy days. When I got close to that I upped my goal, as I didn't want to go out and spend, just because I'd reached my goal!! It really does make you accountable to yourself and it feels good to cut down on unnecessary spending!! Good luck with your disability quest!:goodvibes

Ok, here goes:

May 1: $0

1/13 $0 days!!

1st time trying. I'll go for 10 no buy days.

Need to really figure out budget.

Today went grocery shopping with triple coupons & stuck to specials & only spent $44.87 so even though it won't count as a no buy day it's off to a good start:thumbsup2

Can I join you? This sounds like a good idea! I am in school and don't have the money or time for much shopping but it would be great to pay closer attention to how often we spend. I tell DH we need to not run to the store just because we are out of x, we need to see how long we can go without it.

Today was already a spend day, DD used $8 to buy snacks for her friends coming over. Since they host her often, this was fine. I did grocery & gas spending yesterday so hopefully both of those will last most of the week. We still need pretzels though. It will be a tougher month because we also have bdays this month. However, I already bought the Mom Day gifts, just need to mail them.

I will shoot for 12 no buy days and hope to beat that number! Thanks for the motivation!

5/01/10: $4.85 (food) Hardee's and $4.00 funnel cake (from trailer vendor, Derby Day in Louisville), $3.00 drink and $3.10 DGMarketplace

This is my first time! :thumbsup2

I've never done anything like this before, I watched through the whole of April and feel so inspired. I'm not going to set a budget or targets for this month, I'm just going to see how it goes. I'm journalling my progress on LiveJournal, so will probably C&P most things from there.

Today was a really good start! Last month I'd bought a few too many clothes for my business meeting in London and I no longer need them, so I took them back to the shops! I got £50 back from one store and £28 from another. My Mum paid for my haircut and my appointment at the salon. My car's MOT test cost me nothing because my Dad knows a guy *wink* and he can do most of the mechanic work himself. Handy!

Today was my first zero-spend day! And I actually ended the day in profit by almost £80!

May 01: £0

I'm definitely in this month. I've been lurking for a few months, and now we've set up our budget and are really getting serious about saving money. I am going to aim for 10 no buy days:)

We haven't started the month off well because of a new tire purchase today-DH had a flat on the way home from work on Monday. I really hope the rest of the month is better.

Good luck to everyone:thumbsup2

It was an ugly day spending wise - but I figured I'd get a bunch of errands done so I could stay out of the stores most of next week.

(Due to my unique form of budgetting, my "month" runs 4/26-5/30)
4/26 $0
4/27 $0
4/28 $0
4/29 $16 Field Trip Fees

I'm gonna try and stay for the WHOLE month this time !!! That is my goal for now :) Hopefully I will have at least 12 no buy days, but I'm gonna REALLY work on staying accountable for the whole month... I get discouraged and quit :( So here goes...
May 1st- $20.00 garage saling (it was planned into the budget though :))
- aprox. $4.00 for snow cones (not planned, but yummy ;) )

May 1st - not racking up the no-spend days out of the gate! $14 at our recycling and transfer station to dump trash and the crib that had survived through 4 boys + $43.05 at Kohl's for my kindergartner's b-day treat for his class (a new book and stuffed animal "reading buddy") and two much needed summer shirts for myself! Tomorrow might not be great either -

0/15 no-spend days!

Not off to the best start, but that's OK! Had a great day at the beach. :)

5/1-$18 Beach; $5 Panera Bread; $35 Ugg slippers for me!/library; found .01
