I just broke down and spent $36 online for pre-packaged meals from GoPicnic - it was a fantastic deal at only $1.80 each, and I can pick them up at the warehouse for free! :thumbsup2 Not sure how I'm going to fit this in the budget - I'll probably divide part March and part April - it's got to go somewhere!

These will be a great substitute instead of me "accidentally" purchasing something at the train station on Sundays... :rolleyes1 But I usually end up buying some sort of caffeine in addition on Sundays - I should look into buying some cans of Coke or making my own sweet tea.

*sigh*

I'm so ready for March to be over....

It's raining today, so I'm trying to convince myself that since I'm stuck in the house, I should clean it

I'm like, ok, 10 more minutes on the dis boards, no, 15 more. I SWEAR at 10:30 I'm gonna go do laundry today!

Days like these I REALLY want to go to Target...

You must be a fellow hard-core couponer - no one else I know goes to Jewel and spends .34 except me. LOL

Good Job!

Thanks! :goodvibes

I try to have a coupon for everything that I buy. I'm pretty luck with being able to use a lot of printables, at Jewel and Whole Foods and usually even CVS. It's the only way I can stay on budget! :thumbsup2

I do need to take DS down for his driving permit.. I think I'll do that today.. not sure what the cost is but if we indeed go I'll put it in my totals..

Boy you guys are making me want to not spend any money.. :rotfl:

23rd - $0
24th - $0
25th - $0
26th - $6.50 for lunch, $23.50 for dinner
27th - $3.50 for lunch

Both lunches for yesterday/today were due to being at work on a client site so a necessary expense.

I thought I got away pretty well for dinner last night - that was the hen party I mentioned. I was planning on nearer $30 but as the bride-to-be kindly paid for our drinks and we didn't do desserts, I'm pretty pleased with the total and glad I didn't do their other "activity" which ended up costing about $40 apparently.

I'm going to try to get through another week with only buying fruit/veges and live out the pantry seeing our grocery bill was pretty high this month.

Might go "birthday shopping" tomorrow as its my nephew's birthday at the end of April so if the mood takes me, I might see what I can get him. He'll be 5 years old - I'm thinking a wrist watch as he's learning to tell the time.

That's not that bad, Joanne, you still have 593 left for what, 4 days?

I ended up spending 48.22 at Target yesterday with the girls on their shopping spree.

DD10 bought a Sims nintendo DS game with some of her money, saved the rest. DD8 bought a Schleich (I think that's how it's spelled-it's the little figurines you can get at the German Pavillion at EPCOT and at Target, lol) Husky family and had printed out a webkinz coupon for two littlkinz for 10 dollars at Walgreen's. We had to drive all over God's half acre trying to find a walgreens! But we did and she got her 2 for 10 bux kinz. And she's saving the rest.

I bought them both wallets at Target (otherwise the money just comes out of their pockets in the wash and then it's MINE ), 3 large bottles of shampoo, three large bottles of conditioner (we all have very long hair), and there's a thread about what people bring to Disney and a poster had a shoe organizer with everything in it that she hung up in the closet at Disney, and it was SUCH a good idea that I caved and bought one yesterday for 7.99.

I don't think I've ever gotten out of Target for under 100 so while I feel kinda bad for going, at least I didn't crash and burn.

My car has a burning smell coming from under the hood so I scheduled a car fix for monday morning. I did research on the web and it seems like it's either the alternator (bad, bad bad) or the oil pan gasket (not bad). I also need an oil change and a flush and fill of the radiator, which I have coupons for, and a free rental car that day (another coupon, my dealer lets me stack), so while I think it's going to be at least 200, at least I'm using coupons :rolleyes1.

DH and I went over the budget in Microsoft Money this morning to see how this Cold Turkey No Buy month affected us. Our credit card closes on the 29th and assuming we don't put anything on it until then it will be under 1500. We were also able to put about 2k in savings this month. So yeah, it was tough, but it had a HUGE positive effect of our bottom line.

I'm not going to do cold turkey for April since we have the Disney Trip, termite bond renewal, a vacuum cleaner, a haircut for me, and some other things that I need/want to do, but I am going to try a Cold Turkey every other month, I think. Regular no-buy all the time, though.

Bankonline.com had an article called 'Try Doing a No Spend Month"-whoever wrote it was TOTALLY looking at the No Buy Thread. I was like, dang, I shoulda written that...

I just wanted to stop by and say hi! I'm still tracking my spending and have about $5 left for the month. I have about $20 of stuff to return to walmart so hopefully the 25-ish will last. I REALLY want to come in on budget because I paid $125 on our trip with our regular money. That is my goal this summer, pay for the vacation with regular money and stick vacation money into the house fund.

I am reading everyone else's posts, you all are doing great :)

I pick up my bi-monthly meat CSA share today - it supposedly contains some sausage, eggs, and bacon (in addition to chicken, beef, etc.) - I'm very excited! I might have to make some spaghetti carbonara for dinner. :rolleyes1

I'm also cooking a BBQ pork shoulder roast today and trying my hand at homemade coleslaw for the first time. This could be interesting!

Only a few more days to go and $15.61 to spend - must spend wisely! :thumbsup2

26th - $6.50 for lunch, $23.50 for dinner
27th - $3.50 for lunch
28th - $US1.29~$NZ2.50 for a watch for my nephew's birthday next month, $1 for some books at a school fair

I won an ebay auction for cars wristwatch for my nephew, only thing is I can't choose a colour so I'm hoping they don't send a pink one - else that can go to my niece for her next birthday.

Yesterday we raided Mum & Dad's fruit trees and bought home 2 supermarket bags of granny smith apples, pears and peaches.

I stewed the apples this morning in the pressure cooker and then made a batch of soup for lunch with leftovers to take to work (4 lunches worth).

The soup is delish so here's what I made...

Put a bunch of homegrown tomatoes into the blender (or use canned), add two carrots and puree with a stock cube add some water if its too thick
Put into the pressure cooker or pan with a bunch of lentils (about a cup) - I used red ones and some pre-cooked beans
I threw in a teaspoon of crushed garlic, a tablespoon of crushed ginger, a blob of spicy tomato chutney and a tablespoon or so of tomato paste
Cook until lentils are done
Serves 4 ish - depends how thick you like it, can also be used as a pasta sauce with cheese on top which is yummy too. I'm eating my lunch with toast.

Cheap, healthy, easy and really tasty... its very easy to customise it to what you have on hand. I sometimes put a squeeze of lemon in as well.

If you are quick, dinner will be ready in about an hour... roast veges (potatoes, pumpkin and carrots) with some sort of side vege and either pear or peach crumble...

Actually, its two big racks of veges and two crumbles - enough to feed a family of 6 or 8 and its just the two of us but, we'll rehash the leftovers into more meals during the week. Call me lazy...

This feels about right to me. I've been trying to do a "spending freeze" month 4 times a year. That means buy NOTHING that is not a necessity.

That isn't sustainable month after month. But we've come very close to ZERO discretionary spending a couple of times and it really helps the overall financial situation.

Sometimes we do a two week freeze when a full month isn't realistic. Those short bursts where you follow Dave Ramsey's "zebra like intensity" get followed by times when you just moderate your spending.

March was a zero spend month. I'm relieved April won't be.

Enjoy your trip, Kickapoo Joie Juice.

"zebra-like intensity" lol that's so funny, I'm sitting here trying to picture a zebra (from Animal Kingdom, of course), and all I can picture is how enormous zebra hind-ends are :rotfl2:. But I like DR so if he says Zebra, I'll go along with that.

Paula, you make me really, really want to see New Zealand. Maybe when the kids are old enough to tolerate a 20+ hour plane flight ( I don't know if I'm that old yet).

March 27: $48 (ish) at Target
March 28: $0 Went out to Fry's (electronic store) with DH. I made it out without buying anything, shocker. Electronics are not my achilles heel. Although I did price out some vacuums.
March 29: $0 Should be, no plans to go anywhere today, if it stops raining long enough I may be able to play a make up tennis match tonight.
March 30: :confused3 Car repair day. I'll also probably need groceries.
March 31: Should be zero.

To the PP (sorry, it's early and I haven't finished my tea yet or I would know your name ;)), I think that's neat that Cold Turkey is done by other people. It's almost like by pushing all spending out to the next month, I can do a better job of planning for it, and deciding that I don't actually need some things, after all.

Shoes are still on the BUY list for April, though :lmao:.

I'm actually not a shoe horse, my last pair of sandals broke a strap. I just loooove the idea of shoes and how pretty they are, I don't actually buy many and tend to wear my favorite ones over and over until they die...

Thanks Kickipoo. While it seems pretty good, and really for me its incredibly good, my month is actually from the 6th to the 6th because that's when our credit card cuts off. We put everythign on credit card for the points and pay it off every month. So, it means I have $500 left for the next week or more but the problem is I still haven't registered DS6 for the summer camp programs, I forgot about DD's gymnastics registration and the spring registratio nfor swimming for all 3 kids (paid for summer... so forgot spring registratin was after it... stupid system). Oh, and forgot about DH's car registration and drivers licence renewal. I was, however, really good on groceries this week and won't buy more til after the April 6th cut off. I also figure I'll get DS's summer camps next month even though hockey registration for the fall is next month too...
