No bread at Mama Melrose with meal NOW an Appetizer

I know no one wants to hear this but it is because of the dining plan. Sorry but it is!

I wouldn't complain to loud about Mama's not having it and other restaurants still having it because with the way Disney works, they will take away the bread at all the other places and give you NO bread anywhere!

MsA

You are correct aobut the dining plan. IMHO, not much good came out of the dining plan. A lot of the menus have become more generic, it's harder to get reservations, in many of the signature restaurants, it's gone from being a "dining experience", to eating dinner. To cut costs (so the meal plan is profitable), they've taken away many of the extras, and they've taken away some of the more expensive items, as well. The servers (although I've not personally experienced this) don't have to "work" for their tip - they're getting it regardless of their level of service.

And, I agree about complaining. It won't bring back the bread. It'll just take more away from the remaining restaurants.

Of ocurse if bread is really that imprtant to your meal, simply choose someplace else to dine.

Voting with your pocket book is the best way to get a point across.

I perosnally don't care if they stop giving "free" bread because while on the dining pan there is already more than enough food to eat.

Of course, Disney could have just raised the price of all menu items instead...

One of the points the OP was making was that this is something that is an expected accoutrament to an Italian meal. If Fazzoli's can manage this, why cant Mama Melrose, it has nothing to do with how much food you can get on the DDP.

i would not cancel over bread, i would cancel over the blandness of the food. Not as bad as Spoodles but close.

I have followed the DIS boards for a couple of years now, and though I have tended to "lurk" rather than post during that time, I just have to say something now (with the total expectation that I will be flamed...).

At times it seems that these boards have turned into nothing more than a forum for complaining about Disney. In this thread, for instance, people are complaining about not getting free bread...well get your free bread with your free Dining Plan. Or, if you are not getting the free Dining Plan, then consider how much food you are getting on the Dining Plan for free (there are whole entire 12 page threads devoted to people noting in meticulous detail how much they spent on the dining plan compared to how much they would have spent on the food they ate if they weren't on the dining plan). I will acknowledge that it is completely fair for everyone to expect more of Disney--I do myself. It is not, however, fair at all for some people to forget to thank Disney for what it does (free Dining Plan, come on!) and to criticize it for what it does not (free bread, come on).

And incidentally, I have never used the Dining Plan, free or not, but do enjoy eating TS and went to Mama Melrose's just last week. The bread appetizer plate was huuuge and reasonably priced...enough for my daughter and me to share without feeling at all like Disney was taking my $7 unfairly.
Just to fulfill your expectations about getting flamed--

"thank Disney for what it does (free Dining Plan, come on!)"????!!!! Are you kidding? The Dining Plan ain't free, it's part of a lodging promotion. It's not an example of corporate beneficence (if it was, Bicker would agree that the managers who are giving away Disney's profits should be fired).

Bread and butter or olive oil without separate charge (I don't say "free bread" 'cause I think it's something you are already paying for indirectly) is a very reasonable expectation for any table service establishment. Nobody has to offset their complaint about the loss of bread with some expression of gratitude to Disney.

Rumor 2008 Gone will be the appetizer from the Table Service meal.

Imagine this in 2008
Place Ma ma Melrose on DDP

"May I have bread and butter with my meal"
Sorry we no longer serve bread and butter howerver you can get it
as an appetizer! Your on the DDP plan ?
"Yes"
Sorry you no longer get an appetizer ! You will have to pay for it out of pocket :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Interesting, all of this.
Went to a local Outback last night and I had to stop them from giving us MORE bread after we'd finished off the first loaf.
So I guess Mama's may be Disney's first BYOB restaurant:goodvibes

Has anyone actually eaten there since these "Artisan Breads" have been added to the menu?

Yup. End of June.

No bread.

Wow, I guess it pays to be poor...we have only ever eaten at counter service joints in the World so when we have free dining in August, I won't be disappointed in what has been removed from the dining experience cause' I ain't got nothing to compare too! :lmao:

But, I'm with the OP on this one. Who serves Italian cuisine without bread??? Sort of like making fortune cookies a desert choice at a Chinese place!

I wondered why we weren't served Bread in May! My husband loves bread. We did eat all the food though. We were not on the DDP, but we did have the Fantasmic package. I have been out of town, so I am catching up. DDP changes are not good.

no bread with your pasta??

not good....

We were at Texas Roadhouse and we had yummy rolls with honey-cinnamon butter...there were 3 of us. We got 12 rolls!!! :thumbsup2

That is just not right. Plus now no appy on the DDP???

"no bread for you...."

OK folks, we just did MM last week with the Fantasmic Package and it was our biggest disappointment of all our dining experiences. When DH found out there was no bread with the meal he said "you've gotta be kidding me". Italian born and raised from South Philadelphia, this did not go over well. So we decided we'd use one of our appetizers on the bread. The "artisan" bread was just flat out NASTY and I don't know what they were trying to pass off in those little dipping bowls. They have some serious problems in that restaurant with their menu. It's a cute place, but it just really sucks. Also, the service was extremely slloooooooooooowwwwwwwwww! If you have a TS reserved there, take my advice, cancel it.

If you have a TS reserved there said:
I Did ! Changed my reservation to the Yacht Club Galley.
Hope I made a good choice as you don't always read a lot about it ?

Any comments ! Thanks ....

No it isn't. Name three WDW restaurants that are not fixed-price that bring bread to the table if it isn't explicitly ordered.

I'll wait.
Yes, it is crazy. I can name more then three; Brown Derby, California Grill, Citricos, Wolfgang Puck Cafe, Jiko, Chefs de France, Blue Zoo, Le Cellier, Artist Point, Coral Reef, Marrakesh, and Rose and Crown. There might be some I'm forgetting.
