No bread at Mama Melrose with meal NOW an Appetizer

That's pretty sad. I've never been in a table service restaurant that doesn't automatically bring bread to the patrons with the exception of those ordering sandwiches or pizza. And sometimes bread still appears on the table.

I can just see a patron at MM's ordering. "We'll have an appetizer salad and five baskets of bread....." Somehow, I don't think so and definitely not from someone on the DDP.

If people are truly doing this, then they need to stay home and save some more money, eat counter service or eat offsite. But if WDW is doing this to cut corners, then dining has become a truly sad state of affairs. And if they are doing it to deter people who are ordering a salad and five baskets of bread, then they need to print on the menu that each patron must order XXX amount of food.

Situations like this are ridiculous. There just has to be a better way.

No it isn't. Name three WDW restaurants that are not fixed-price that bring bread to the table if it isn't explicitly ordered.

I'll wait.

Frankly, I can't think of three restaurants that don't serve bread.

I posted another thread on this topic because when I heard it I couldn't believe it! I am speechless!!!!

I have followed the DIS boards for a couple of years now, and though I have tended to "lurk" rather than post during that time, I just have to say something now (with the total expectation that I will be flamed...).

At times it seems that these boards have turned into nothing more than a forum for complaining about Disney. In this thread, for instance, people are complaining about not getting free bread...well get your free bread with your free Dining Plan. Or, if you are not getting the free Dining Plan, then consider how much food you are getting on the Dining Plan for free (there are whole entire 12 page threads devoted to people noting in meticulous detail how much they spent on the dining plan compared to how much they would have spent on the food they ate if they weren't on the dining plan). I will acknowledge that it is completely fair for everyone to expect more of Disney--I do myself. It is not, however, fair at all for some people to forget to thank Disney for what it does (free Dining Plan, come on!) and to criticize it for what it does not (free bread, come on).

And incidentally, I have never used the Dining Plan, free or not, but do enjoy eating TS and went to Mama Melrose's just last week. The bread appetizer plate was huuuge and reasonably priced...enough for my daughter and me to share without feeling at all like Disney was taking my $7 unfairly.

I don't think this is an instance where the "free" comes into play. It's just that practically every restaurant (that I've been to) serves bread with the meal. Italian restaurants, in particular, consider it very much a part of the meal and not an "extra". So when an Italian restaurant chooses not to serve bread with the meal it's like a Chinese restaurant not serving rice. It's just plain wrong!!

Besides the ones already mentioned, Olivia's brings bread as well.

I think that in any situation people do not react well to having something that was previously included, taken away, while still having to pay the same price. The bread wasn't exactly "free" before--certainly you could not just walk in, take a seat and ask for your "free" bread. It was an inclusion with the purchase of your meal. And perhaps the reason it appears that people are "griping" is because it seems that dining is continually being downgraded, whether it be with higher quality menu items being removed or inclusions such as the bread disappearing. I have no doubt that if Disney suddenly added an exciting menu item, or provided a new inclusion with a meal that the Dis boards would be all a buzz with that information as well, but sadly that doesn't seem to ever happen.:confused3

Has anyone checked into this, or are they going on the first post? There could be a mixup, as these things happen... Mama Melrose's has a bread appetizer with spreads as a poster above stated. I

There are 3 or more threads on the matter already, , and many posters have confirmed that the bread formerly included with meals is gone.

are you still waiting after all these people shot off restaurants that serve bread!:rotfl: :rotfl2: :lmao:

Just a added note the cost of that bread is basiclly nothing, not that you all did not know that already!

So what is the cost of this bread that is now a appetizer??:upsidedow ( this should be a good one!)

"Artisan Breads and Spreads - Freshly baked breads served with an arugula and chive pesto, sun-dried tomato, roasted vegetable, and roasted garlic spreads. - $5.99" (courtesy of http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/dining/diningdetail.cfm?Restaurant.ID=88)
Is that what Mama Melrosa's used to serve before, for free? This appetizer seems to have been on the menu since at least April of this year. Has anyone eaten free bread there since?

If this is what used to be given with a meal, and now they are charging for it, shame on Disney. If this is a new appetizer selection, and they will still give you plain old bread and butter/oil for free, then what's the hubbub? Has anyone actually eaten there since these "Artisan Breads" have been added to the menu?

Been a while since we've been to Mama Melrosa's and I don't recall what they had been serving as bread.

I think the hubbub is they're no long serving the "old" bread and butter. (That doesn't sound right, does it? ;) ) No more free plain bread and butter, only option is paying for the fancy-pants bread and butter.

Gee that "free bread" looks an awful lot like something currently described as "artisan bread" for 6.99!! Hmm......and what's that in the upper corner? Could it be some sort of pesto???? But Disney wouldn't do that, right?:rotfl:

I think they can get away with it for now because so many of their customers visit once a year or less. Here, we had an italian restaurant take the bread off of their lunch buffet and stopped including it with dinner. We stopped going because at the time, bread and butter was the only staple in my son's diet :rotfl2: . They closed less than a year later- I suspect they were desperate and trying to cut corners wherever they could. I don't mean to start any rumors, but maybe we'll get a Mama Melrose replacement in the next year or so :thumbsup2 .
