My DD will be 9 on Christmas Day. We are going to have her party the Mon. before and have decided to make sweets. So far here are my ideas-- Decorate cookies and rice crispy treats, edible reindeer food (they made the one they can't eat and school and really wanted to eat it), chocolate candy molds, and maybe gingerbread houses with graham crackers. Any other ideas? I really would like to keep them busy while they are here.

Make smore's - toasting the marshmallows over charcoal in a grill.

For something a little more complicated:

No bake cookies

My favorite are the traditional kind with cocoa and peanut butter and oatmeal.

or

Peanutbutter Balls

1/2 lb of butter melted
1 18 oz jar of peanut butter (smooth)
1 lb of confectionary sugar

Using a mixer blend peanut butter and butter until smooth (microwaving the penutbutter for a couple of minutes helps it flow out of the jar and blend more smoothly with the butter - but it's not required). Add the sugar, gradually until it's all blended.

Set aside in refrigerator until ready to use. When ready mold into balls about 1/2 inch to 3/4 of an inch diameter.

Melt 12 oz of chocolate bits or 12 oz of Dove Dark Chocolate Squares or 12 oz of Hershey's Kisses Dark in a double boiler over low heat. Once melted stick a toothpick into peanut butter balls dip peanut butter balls halfway into the melted chocolate. Set on Waxed paper to cool. Can be frozen up to a month.

Do you have anything that you could melt chocolate in, and then have the girls "coat things in chocolate"???

One thing we do - is dip Ritz crackers into melted mint-flavored chocoalte wafers...then top with "smooshed" up peppermint candies.

You can take pretzel rods, and dip about 1/3 of it into either melted white or regular chocolate, and then roll it into crushed nuts, jimmies, or any other little Christmas sprinkles.

If you melt white chocolate, spread it on a flat surface (i use a cookie sheet covered in tin-foil, and before it "sets up" you can also sprinkle either nuts, candy canes that are almost smooshed - but so that you can see it is candy canes. If you do nuts...you can also add in chopped up craisins.

One thing that is really yummy, and super easy to make is white-chocolate coated popcorn. We buy already popped pocporn from the snack aisle, and use about 1 # of white chocolate per bag of the popcorn.

I've not done this one, but have heard it is very, very good - take 2 ritz crackers, and put peanut butter on one, and use the other to make a sandwich. Dip the whole thing into a melted chocolate.

Another thing that I've heard (actually from the Disboards) that would be really fun - is to do the Oreo Truffles. There is a recipe here:

I did a sweets/chocolate day with my Junior girl scout troop about 4 or 5 years ago - we had a lot of fun!!!

A chocolate melter - Wilotn makes one would be fun to have, if you don't have one already!

Have fun - this sounds like a great time! Any way I could swing an invite???

I just made Oreo truffles tonight... basically, take a package of Oreos (eat/ take out 4-6 cookies), crush them with an 8 oz package of cream cheese. Put the mixture in the fridge (you could even do this before the girls get there), and then coat in chocolate, and decorate!

I made mint Oreo truffles in semi-sweet chocolate, with colored sprinkles on top.

I'm working on regular oreo truffles covered in white chocolate with red and green sprinkles.

They taste AWESOME and are really cute, too!
