No bag security check

I have always needed strollers and bags when taking grandkids to Disneyland. Bags have gotten smaller over the years and I am wondering if I can eliminate a bag altogether on my next trip. The kids will all only have phones they will carry in their pockets so they are good. I have never been comfortable with a phone in my pocket so I wondered if one of the CLEAR phone lanyards is acceptable or is it considered a bag?

Do you empty pockets in the no bag security line? Are there restrictions on what can be carried in pockets? A small pocket wallet that has a space for a couple credit cards and a few bills? I have never used Apple Pay but could learn and that may eliminate a need for a credit card. Anyone used Apple Pay in the parks? Is it easy and accepted everywhere?

What about water bottles in the no bag check line? I usually have a small Hydro Flask. They make a cross body sling for carrying the bottle. It does have a very small zippered pocket about the size of a credit card. Could you wear that into the parks or would that be considered a bag?

Thanks for your help with this. I don’t want to get in the no bag line only to be sent to the back of the bag check line because I have a lanyard, bottle sling, or something unacceptable in my pocket.

You only have to take anything that will set off a metal detector out of your pockets. It is the typical setup where you put it in a little bowl and pick it up on the other side. I believe that anything with a zipper will be considered a bag, though your mileage may vary depending on the security personnel that is there. They Expect to at least have to open it. I have a somewhat large, waterproof case for my glasses that has a latch. I have sometimes been asked to open that, sometimes not.

They can be picky. I was in line for the no-bag security once and a guard that was out in the crowds tried to call me out of it. She saw me pull my small wallet out of my pocket. She said "If it has a zipper you have to go to the bag line". It has a tiny coin pouch on the outside, the zipper is less than 2.5". I told her I'd gone through that line plenty of times and had no issues and stayed in line.

I had my phone and lip balm in my pocket and a drink in my hand. They just had me put my small wallet, phone, and lip balm in the bowl for the metal detector.

when I go "no-bag" I usually bring one of those lightweight drawstring bags with the chords attached at the bottom so they can be used as shoulder straps.

on the way in it is empty and folded up in my back pocket. so far there hasn't been a problem doing that.

I have heard stories of guests being challenged because of over stuffed cargo pants pockets.

I've also been told that a zipper means a bag. Also, I know you didn't specifically ask, but a stroller counts as a bag. We also go stroller free in the morning and then if we decide to leave midday we bring it back if needed.

It only exists on the Harbor side entrance and it's not always in use. The structure and DTD security do not have it.
Just want to make sure I understand because this would be a change from what I've experienced in the past... I haven't stayed onsite since everything changed and guests now go through security prior to entering downtown Disney. We're staying at GCH end of May and are you saying that it doesn't really matter if we have bags or not, we're all funneled through one line? This would be big news - it'd mean I wouldn't have to agonize over whether I bring my small crossbody or not....

Does the no bag line still exist now that the Harbor security checkpoint is complete? I never noticed or saw a need for a bagless line on our trip a couple of weeks ago.

It's been there for the past year or two but it's not always open.

Correct if you are entering DTD through GCH or DCA through GCH you go through. a funneled line that doesn't have a no bag line.

We were there last on March 16 and it was there on Harbor when we entered at 7:30am. I think it goes away after the initial rush in the mornings. I can't say exactly what time but when we leave midday and come back around 2-3, there is no no-bag line.

My wife uses a wallet, which is large enough to hold a very small camera, which she does and she used the no bag line just fine, sometimes they open it, sometimes not, but it is not something that you could hide anything in.

I don't need to take a stroller any longer - thank goodness. I like the idea of a lightweight bag that can be folded and put in my pocket for use after security. Will look for something without a zipper or any metal. Thanks for all the great information.
