No bad views please

We don't have thousands of points but would definitely pay more of them for a better view. I too spend alot of time on the balcony so seeing something nice is of great importance. On the other hand I'm not viewing the neighbors who live across the street so it's better than that. The only time we have ever been really disappointed was at AK Lodge when we had no balcony at all. Just a small cut out of the front roof. It was so bad we did ask to be moved and the CM graciously moved all of our things to a better room while we were at the parks with no problems at all.

When it is an option, I am quite willing to spend more points for a view but at some resorts it is not an option. :sad2:

View is a matter of opinion. If I am an expert on dumpsters and how they operate, I might find a dumpster view superior to the noisy pool view. Dumpsters might only be noisy for a few minutes, but pool views can be noisy all day and most of the night.

I laughed at this comment because I work in the industry. Although I prefer a view that doesn't include the dumpster, we love to see the trucks when we are on vacation :-). Our 20 something kids were on vacation on Maui and heard a truck and went out to watch. The other people watching were a 3 year old and his Grandma :-)

views of trees, bamboo, water, golf course, fountains and that elusive room with the shrubbery/air conditioner and to be honest....he never complain. The CM's know us now and have been very good about asking us what our preference is. We love the Turtle Pond area at OKW and have only asked once it we could get the same room we stayed in when we got married. If wasn't available but they did put a note in our file that it was a preference. We are hoping to snag it next visit :)

Unfortunately I have witnessed guests go berserk when checking in and they didn't get the specific building or room they wanted. I felt sorry for the CM's that had to deal with them and actually took one gentleman aside and talked to him....he was not a pleasant person at all.

There's no way to make all views equally desirable without adding cost or losing rooms. Plus it's impossible to please everyone. Overall DVC does better than most timeshares in this area.

Had a view at BLT of the parking lot with dirty laundry. It was absolutely fascinating watching the coming and going of linens fora few days.

I am not sure if you meant this tongue in cheek or not, but we had that view at BLT. It was a lake view, but I had asked for something near an elevator, as DH was having back problems, and DMIL wanted easier access to the smoking area. We ended up with that "outside of the C" view that meant not only did we get to see the comings and goings of the laundry trucks (pretty cool, actually), but we also got that cheater's MK fireworks view. :thumbsup2

Then only book the resorts where it is an option. If view is important to you, you have the power to make it happen. It isn't Disney's responsibility, it isn't the responsibility of the other timeshare owners in the system - every single Boardwalk View room has a pretty fantastic view at Boardwalk Villas (if you like that thing). Own at Boardwalk and always book that view.

Nor is it fair to complain to the front desk to get your "not a great view" changed when you are staying at SSR or VWL. Sometimes you get good views when you can't book them specifically, sometimes you can't. When you don't, that's because another owner lucked out this time. Don't be selfish - you are part of a system.

I want a nice view. It can be the trees and shrubbery but I definitely do not want the dumpsters nor the rooftops. When we stay at WL we ask for a room on the ground floor facing the VWL pool. Very generic and quiet but it makes it easy to go to the pool and to go back and forth for a beverage! ;) We have stayed CL at WL and were shocked that the room was over the castmember parking area, service dock and dumpsters for WCC. Not very pleasant but the smell of the cooking about killed me! lol There are also rooms there that are staring right out over the roof and that would make me nuts!

We've done SV at AKL both times. I don't really like a full on pool view because my kids are grown and not traveling with us at this point and I preview it a bit quieter until the "grands" come along! :thumbsup2

I agree with the OP. I think Disney can do something to soften the views of necessary evils like dumpsters and such from the rooms. When I travel, I want my experiences to be better than what I have at home. Vacation in my opinion should be better than what we have at home, but that is just my humble take on it.

Haven't they done something? You can always use more points for those rooms with a view. Honestly, when I go to Kidani Village, I wouldn't think of staying in any other villa other than one with a Savanna view. I guess I should be lucky that other people are willing to happily (for the most part) take other views thus allowing me to get the reservations I want.

This 'extra' effort on Disney's part would take extra money which would probably directly affect our maintenance fees. I much rather pay additional points for the superior view without paying larger per point fees every year to fix this problem that only affects some.

My interest in view has changed through the years. Initially, i could not care much less, as we did the "commando" trips where we spent very little time in the room.

Later, as we visited more often and did not feel so pressured to hit the parks, I learned to enjoy sitting on the balcony. Usually I am OK with whatever view we get, but I did ask to be moved once when we had this awful view of the roof, and was accommodated.

I am happy if there is a palm tree in sight.
:thumbsup2

like kid-at-heart, we enjoy using our balcony, and a view is an important part of that enjoyment - we book and pay for what we want. however, that doesn't mean a standard view (of parking lot, etc) is always undesirable, as many of those have at least partial views of non-real life :)

i don't think OP means that there is a need to run to the front desk and throw a fit, simply that some views can be softened a bit. trees that cover a balcony can be pruned back a bit (we had one room where the entire balcony was in a tree - just a view of leaves, and lots of bugs), shrubs could be planted to somewhat hide an AC unit. knowing that we might get a "no-view" room (of which there are very few), we would only book such a resort/view for a partial, very short stay.

btw, we just returned from the BWVs, BW view studio. we had one of the rooms others have complained about, 2nd floor in the elliptical opening above thimbles and threads (room 2037). the balcony has a solid half-wall over the BW (the wall top about 2' wide - more than enough for a book, camera, coffee, etc), with privacy dividers on either side. it was AMAZING! :cloud9: we absolutely loved the privacy (we could sit out in PJs and no one would know), the size (balcony is about 10' x 12'), and that we could use the stairs to be on the BW in just moments.
many people prefer slatted balcony walls for views with children and/or wheelchairs, and upper floors for better views of the fireworks (been there, done that - the fireworks don't change, but the BW activity does:)) - we're excited to have found a hidden jewel :woohoo:

everyone's perception of a great view is different :)

Ha!

I have a dear friend who has worked in the WDW horticultural department for over 20 years, and he's told me some great stories.

One that always comes to mind is how they would get complaints at the Poly from folks who had paid for a premium beach view of the castle, but would have a palm tree in front of them. ....some actually demanded that the palm trees be removed! :)
