No bad views please

Am I the only one who feels that there should be no bad views when staying at Disney resorts and/or DVC? Disney is the master at creating an illusion, you would think that they could turn service areas, dumpsters, etc into something of interest.
I am one of those folks who spends more time in my villa and on my balcony than in the parks. I really want a good view when at my home-away-from home. The view does impact my enjoyment of the trip.

While I agree that they are the master illusionists, it doesn't matter to me. I like the fact that I don't have to waste points or money on a view that doesn't matter to me.

View is a matter of opinion. If I am an expert on dumpsters and how they operate, I might find a dumpster view superior to the noisy pool view. Dumpsters might only be noisy for a few minutes, but pool views can be noisy all day and most of the night.

And, most of the time, you can use more points for a better view. Savanna vs standard, standard vs theme park view vs lake view, etc.

That's so true. I remember one time that someone on these boards came back and was so enthusiastic about the wonderful view of the Epcot ball she had. Coincidently shortly afterwards, I went and got the same room. Boy, I almost skipped away from the front desk when I got my room assignment-the room with the great view. Well, she'd failed to mnetion the road noise, which really wasn't loud, but I'm a real country girl, and hate to hear cars. Conversely, I had a villa once with a great view-every morning there was a hawk perched in a tree right outside my villa. Oh, yeah-before you request that room, you might want to know the whole view-a bunch of trees and that's it. I LOVED it!

We've enjoyed dumpster views on trips when we catch wildlife trying to get in!! So fun to watch a bear or raccoons get in there!

Now if Disney could have animated critters pretending to get into the dumpsters, I'd pick dumpster view every time!

Room views are so subjective.

We once had a ground floor studio at OKW. First thing I did after walking into the room was check the patio for the view. I went out to find that our view was basically shrubbery and the backside of the AC unit. I thought "Oh, well - glad I'm here anyway!"

The next morning, I was outside on the patio enjoying my coffee and the beautiful weather (minus any "view"). I heard a quack and saw one little duckling poke his head around the corner. He started waddling toward me, and 6 of his siblings shortly followed along with mom. I think the previous people had shared their breakfast with them, and the gang thought that I would do the same. (OK, they did get some English muffin crumbs from us!).

They visited us briefly each morning until the end of our stay. Although the "view" wasn't traditionally the best, it was very private and one of our most magical.

I too love a view. And I'm disappointed when I don't get one. For most views it's just a request so why take it out on the CMs that we were assigned a poor view? But if we are staying in the same room for a week, I'll usually check to see if we can get one with a view.

MsTessP -- we had an OKW studio on the 3rd floor (building 35) that the view was totally blocked by trees and shrubbery. Does anyone know if that is that becoming a standard for the studio portion at OKW? Only the 1 and 2 BRs get the views?

My first time at Vero Beach, I went on to the balcony and had to stand on my tip toes to see over the railing. I looked around and saw other rooms with slotted railings and mine was wooden. I had imagined sitting on my balcony and watching the ocean, and this just wasn't happening. They did move us to another room. Although it was on the 2nd floor instead of the 3rd, it was more of what I envisioned. Otherwise, I usually don't complain about views.

I want a nice view. It can be the trees and shrubbery but I definitely do not want the dumpsters nor the rooftops. When we stay at WL we ask for a room on the ground floor facing the VWL pool. Very generic and quiet but it makes it easy to go to the pool and to go back and forth for a beverage! We have stayed CL at WL and were shocked that the room was over the castmember parking area, service dock and dumpsters for WCC. Not very pleasant but the smell of the cooking about killed me! lol There are also rooms there that are staring right out over the roof and that would make me nuts!

We've done SV at AKL both times. I don't really like a full on pool view because my kids are grown and not traveling with us at this point and I preview it a bit quieter until the "grands" come along!

I agree with the OP. I think Disney can do something to soften the views of necessary evils like dumpsters and such from the rooms. When I travel, I want my experiences to be better than what I have at home. Vacation in my opinion should be better than what we have at home, but that is just my humble take on it.

I really didn't think a view was important to us until recently. We have always been spoiled by a terrific view of DTD from Congress Park at SSR. We were shocked when we checked in 10 days ago to find our view consisted of nothing but the side of the building and the roof of the stairway door, trees and sidewalk. We went back up to the Carriage House and asked politely if there were any other rooms with a view available. Luckily we were there early enough to snag a different room. We've had better views in the past but we did spend a lot of time sitting on that balcony, enjoying every minute.

I had no view from a 1 bedroom in building 28, second floor. Just thick trees close to the building. After that I always request water view and haven't been disappointed.

I never take it out on the CMs. But it does impact my enjoyment. If our view is unpleasant I will request and pay for a change if possible. I just think that all views should be acceptable. I also will use the additional points for an upgraded view but sometimes, even then the view is undesirable.

Then I think you're a perfect example of a guest who should pay more points for a preferred view. You will clearly get more out of it than some people who barely spend any time in their room at all. I'm like you, by the way, where even if I'm not in the room very much I still prefer seeing something nice and/or magical out the window.

On the other hand, if Disney spiffed up all the standard view rooms so that there was something better to look at, it would certainly cost money. And that money would be passed on to us guests, one way or another. So I guess I'm glad they don't, because I know there are people who don't give a hoot about their view and are happy to be in those rooms. I won't be one of them, but having the choice makes us all happy!

Agree...sometimes. For example: July trip is a split stay: AKL-Kidani Savannah view and BLT Lake view. View is going to be very important!
Next trip is November at Beach Club for food and wine. Our balcony could be boarded up for all I care ;-)

Had a view at BLT of the parking lot with dirty laundry. It was absolutely fascinating watching the coming and going of linens fora few days.

View is also very important to me too . And I would part with more points to get the view I wanted!

Having said that, I don't complain if I can't get what I want, but will request - and pay for - a room change when a suitable one becomes available, if I am staying for more than 2 or 3 nights.

At Vero it's especially important to me. We don't use the pool area at all, but the balcony and morning sunrises are what makes the vacation special so if they've got a room with a 'good' balcony, I'd like it please

When I am lucky enough to be able to book a standard view room (to save points ) I am always happy with whatever view we get. Oddly enough we usually get really nice views. BLT standard scored us a beautiful MK view in Jan and we just got back from a standard AKV 2br with a smallest savanna ever but saw plenty of animals. Did not expect that at all.
