We are looking to go Dec. 6.-9 but can't find any available rooms in Disney Resorts! What now?? It just wouldn't be Disney without a Disney resort. I guess I will have to look at the Swan/Dolphin!

The first week or two of December is booked because of low DVC points for DVC resorts and don't forget DIS-CON!!!

If it's a must do trip then I would book something else & keep calling every day to try for a Disney resort.

This first weekend of MVMCP ALWAYS fills the resorts.. I don't know about last year, but all previous years were sold out during this timeframe... I'd definitely recommend calling Disney periodically to get a room.. you'll definitely get one, maybe even with a discount, but you'll have to work at it a little bit...

I guess I will have to look at the Swan/Dolphin!

There are many worse possibilities! Haven't stayed there myself yet, but have ressies at the Dolphin for Dec/Jan. Take a look at the thread on the Dolphin/Swan.
Swan/Dolphin thread
From what I read, it sounds pretty good. We had a choice of resorts when we booked, but decided to try the Dolphin -- not to mention the phenomenal rates you can get there with one of their many offers! We opted for Dolphin deluxe/balcony/resort view for $174/night. Cont. Tower was over $500/night for MK view. Good luck!

We stayed at the Dolphin for the first time this past Aug and we felt it was still Disney. Infact they had some features that we liked better then the Disney owned resorts.

1. Being able to schedule housekeeping everyday.
2. Being able to review what has been charged to your room on your tv and also check out using your tv.

Service was good and if we could get the Swan/Dolphin for less then the YC we would stay there again.

Funny, I read your post getting the feeling that you would have to "settle for" the S/D if it's available.

I can tell you the Dolphin is one of our favorite hotels, period. Even in comparison with several of the "Disney owned" hotels. I'd choose the S/D over most of the Disney resorts.

During the holidays, The Dolphin lobby has a beautiful huge tree with a train going around it. It's quite festive. It has all the amenities of a deluxe hotel not to mention the awesome location and conveniences within the resort itself....Tubbi's which is opened 24 hrs. The grotto pool and the lap pool with the cafe right there. EPCOT & MGM are just a boat ride or walk away and you're right in the BC/YC/BW loop.

But, I can tell you...you may not be able to get a room there either for that time, they're also looking pretty booked up for that time. I'd call a.s.a.p....

I would say book where you can and waitlist and keep trying. Things happen as you approach 30 days out as people cancel at last minute so as not to lose their deposits.

Good luck!

Actually, the real reason you can't find a room is more than MVMCP or DISCON II. It is probably due to CBR and Shades of Green shutdown. This takes over 3,000 room offline in WDW property. CBR is due to re-open sometimes middle to late Dec. and Shades of Green not until well into 2003. DISCON II will probably book no more than 50 rooms, maybe a few more and MVMCP is lots and lots locals this first weekend...smjj

It is the 2nd gathering of the participating folks who post on these boards:)

There is a lot of information on it. There is a thread entitled, DIS CON II: A Gathering of Friends. There are lots of activities and gatherings planned for the 2nd week of December.

We have stayed at virtually every Disney resort and I can say with conviction that the Swan/Dolphin is the best kept secret in the "world." If you have an opportunity to stay at the Dolphin, as opposed to NO trip to Disney, you are missing a great experience. Go for it and you will not regret it.....

And if you still can't find an on site hotel. I recommend the Holiday Inn Family Suites,it is located on Epcot Road just 1 mile from the WDW gates in Lake Buena Vista. It is a deluxe hotel with a GREAT rep on the
Orlando Hotels and Attractions Board!!

You may also try a disney travel agent such as Small World Travel on Mousesavers.com. I did this and got 2 rooms at the AKL when I couldn't get one myself. Ask for Kerri if you do. She's the one that helped me! I did this in Oct. though so who knows!!

Something else I thought of, if you read these threads alot, you will notice that alot of people can't decide where they want to stay so they book 2 resorts and then cancel out when they finally make up their minds. I think it's bad bacause it ties up the rooms for people trying to get ressies. I know it is hard to decide where to stay and some people book what's available and keep trying for what they want and then cancel their first ressie if they get it. I'd definitely keep trying and probably something will open up! That's one good thing about using a disney travel agent is because they keep checking for you .

We are going Dec. 5-8, booked a month ago and there were already no on-site rooms. We have booked the Swan at the teacher rate and I'm happy with that. If you have an entertainment book you can get a good rate at the Swan/Dolphin as well.

I don't remember where, but I remember reading somewhere that CRO releases room cancellations each day at 8 AM eastern time. So maybe if you try calling then it would help!

Good luck!

IMHO, I would take the advice to book somewhere like S/D but keep trying for one of the Dis resorts. We stayed at the Dolphin and it was just okay. It may have just been an isolated experience but I thought the front desk personnel were a bit snooty and made me feel below them because I had a teacher rate. The corridors were freezing cold. The room was not spectacular and could definitely use some sprucing up. The carpet was stained, mattresses were worn out.

I would try for a mod if possible.

Sorry, S/D fans. This is just my opinion. What I liked about the Dolphin was the walk to the boardwalk area.

Hope this helps.

Joanne
