As it gets this close, yes. Low points and Christmas is in full force. Popular time to visit.

Exactly as JWG said, lowest point season and all the Christmas decorations are up. But with that being said, there is a lot of time between now and then, I would waitlist.

As pp stated, this is not unusual for dvc for reasons already stated. I would waitlist as people's plans often change, especially if plans were made 11 months out...there is a chance for an opening. Better chance at OKW or SSR as they are largest.

we go xmas week each year and make our reservations at 11 months for OKW our home resort. This year we were able to change at 7 months to AKLV , first time in the last 3 years that we have been able to do this. We love OKW, but wanted to try AKLV and are glad to hav ethe chance. It is getting tougher for those who do not plan early as there are more dvc members in the pool, now.

A couple of weeks ago I was able to put together a few days here and a few days there for a studio at AKV 12/8 - 12/15, with a move in the middle and a WL for the 12th. I couldn't believe I was even able to do that good. Just last night, my WL for 12/12 came through, giving us at least 5 consecutive nights. Now, I am WL'ed for 12/8 and 12/9, but at least I have the room reserved for those 2 nights at only $307. per night, plus tax.

As others have stated due to time of year and low points this is a very popular time of year at the DVC resorts. We have been every year since '93 at this time of year due to DW's birthday, a chance to enjoy the holidays by ourselves, get away from the shopping, and relax during a busy/hectic time of year. We booked 11 months out at OKW and then transfer to another resort at 7 months if we want too. This year got a transfer to AKL on the club level.

I just called today for a reservation for Dec 9-18. AKV was only available for the 10th. SSR was good for 14-18...no VWL,AKV, or BWV.

I remember a few years back having to piece together a stay at BWV the week before Christmas (check out the 17th I think). Rather than moving resorts, I bit the bullet and moved from a pool view studio (1 night), to a BW view studio (3 nights), to a 1 bedroom (1 night). It ended up working out fine...the rooms were ready at 8:00 am and we were checked in and at a park by 9:00 am.

And this was at the 7 month window! Before the economy tanked I guess.

I think this is an inherant problem with studios. Takes the fewest points and has the lowest inventory. Might be more doable if you moved up to a 1 edroom. just a thought.

Ok, so my question is...
Why is there such limited availability for ANYTHING, ANYWHERE (even SSR and OKW) the second to third weeks of November? It's after Jersey week and before Thanksgiving. Thought this was suppose to be one of the quietest weeks of the year to go? Am I missing something?

The last 3 months of the year are very popular for DVC members. Cooler weather, fall and holiday events.

And many of the original OKW/VB/BWV owners are just starting to hit the age where their kids are in college or married, so they have more freedom to travel anytime of year as a couple.

I had a reservation the 11-15 for 2 studios at AKV Kidani, at the 7 month mark I was able to move just 1 of them to Beach Club and that was just for the 12-15. I have been waitlisted for 1 night at Beach Club since the 7 month mark and nothing has come through yet

I was able to move the 2nd studio to BWV, I am calling every couple days to try and piece together days, but still no luck.

I really think that the only way you can be sure about availability is to call MS yourself. And I have also clarified with the CM if any of the dates I want are available and where, or even a different type villa, e.g. a 1BR versus a studio or a different view. Then I can decide if we're willing to do split stays or spend more points.

Like lilpooh said availability changes rapidly. I've been on the phone asking about changing or adding to my waitlist and having it suddenly become available. Members are constantly making or canceling reservations so anything can happen.

Couldn't get anything for October 13 - 19th either, but get Bonnet Creek.
We have annual passes and Tables so we don't have to pay for parking.

Wow....I'm glad I booked right at 11 months! We have a CL studio at AKL for that week. I would definitely waitlist though as people's plans can change.---Kathy

I always book at the 11 month window for Dec at 9am. When I called then for this year, BLT only had lockoff 2 bdrms available - no dedicateds left. I did move us to AKL - Kidani at the 7 month window at 9am and got the last dedicated 2 bdrm. I will say that the rest of the year I book 2 weeks to 90 days out and I almost always get exactly what I want. It is just a December busy time with DVC.
