Which adr's will not be the same with out appetizers. Like Lecellier without the cheese soup, Kona with no crab cakes, or or 50's without the herb cheese bread. What's is everyone doing just skipping these places or paying OOP? I mean paying tip , I can handle but paying for all these appetizers which some make the meal could get very expensive. Also does anyone know if with family style meals ,like Ohana's will you get everything???

If it was some place where like you say it wouldn't be the same without the appetizer then yes I would pay for it out of pocket.

This is exactly the reason while I booked the deluxe plan for next year. I probably would never pay for the appy's, im too cheap (and frankly it wouldnt be in budget to pay for dining plan and appy appart and tip) well you get the idea, but the only one id probably pay for would be the mussels at le cellier, everything else i could do without. But i choose the deluxe next year so that i wouldnt have to worry about choosing to pay for apy or not, and heck it was upgraded from free dining so i only paid $32 for it..LOL

That's one of the reasons we are getting the deluxe plan. :goodvibes

I probably would just pay OOP for them, though if we all wanted them.

I'm glad not to get appetizers.:thumbsup2 I don't know how it's even possible to eat an app, dinner, and then desert. Not to mention, I've probebly eaten a whole days worth of calories at one sitting. I guess you folks who do it probably only eat a small portion of each, but then I feel like I've spent way too much money on what I've actually eaten. I guess I'm too cheap, then!:)

I will likely see what kind of mood I'm in on our Jauuary trip and just pay OOP.

The cheddar cheese soup has outlasted its "specialness", but the Kona crabcakes may stay...I had tomato and mozzarella appetizers three times on our trip a few weeks ago - so I am one who is not terribly bothered by the loss of appetizer...

I would prefer to be able to have the option of choosing appy OR dessert. I am not a big dessert person. On vacation I may only eat 2 or 3 at the most. There is no way I can eat dessert 6 or 7 days in a row.

This is why if we plan to do the deluxe plan on free dining. If we were just going when free dining wasn't going on we would just pay out of pocket for all our meals. We almost always have an appetizer and skip desert.

Either pay OOP for the appetizers, use the deluxe plan, or don't use the dining plan. If it were me, I'd use the deluxe plan, (unless you have an AP, then I'd get the DDE, I'm assuming you don't.)

As of January are app no longer included inthe plan? Do you pay for tip as well. If so I would think the wait staff is ticked. I have heard they get an 18% guarantee off of the ddp bill. If apps aren't on meals and it is up to the customers to tip I would think they are going to make a lot less.

I know the feeling. We did the DDP this year and we'll probably do it again in '09. Probably the only 2 appetizers I'd miss are the cheese soup at LeCellier (I'll probably pay OOP for that one!) and the baked potato soup at WPC (not sure if we'll go back there or not, but that was delicious!). I'm a sweets eater, so I'm basically in the camp of being happy they chose to keep the dessert over the appy. Now the tip... that's another story, LOL!

. . . Do you pay for tip as well. If so I would think the wait staff is ticked. I have heard they get an 18% guarantee off of the ddp bill . . ..

1) The union wait staff lobbied for the change.
2) They have to pay taxes on the DDP tip.
3) They can avoid taxes on cash tips.
4) I don't know why I have to pay taxes, but they can pocket the tip and avoid taxes.

NOTE: The wait staff do pay taxes on all tips charged to credit cards or rooms. Some claim a small percentage of the cash tips they collect. I haven't heard of any waiter/waitress claiming all their tips for income tax purposes.

Personally I am an appetizer person and can skip desserts most meals (Not DH though). I would have preferred the option of one or the other. I will carefully rethink whether we will choose the plan in the future. Paying for both appetizer and tip can add up.
The deluxe plan would be too much for us, so in the future we may opt for OOP.
We are on the 2007 plan in October so I am planning on enjoying it at least one last time.

well the kids menu comes with an app and a side and a drink... it's well worth the price and the portions.

We'll not be skipping the appetizer, we'll just be skipping the DDP!

If I was going next year and wanted the plan I would book the Deluxe plan. With all of the OOP we because of signature dining and extra meals for character breakfasts it would perhaps be the best bet and I would not have to feel we needed to limit appetizers to keep the bill down.

If a dish is only worth eating if it's included in the dining plan, is it worth eating at all?

We plan on doing the regular dining plan next year. I think we'll do the best at our 2 buffets I plan to book. If we really have to have an appetizer, perhaps we'll share one. We all like dessert!

The restaurants I couldn't stand going to without getting an appetizer are...

~Kona
~Nine Dragons
~Le Cellier
~Whispering Canyon Cafe
