Less than a month before a 6 day trip. No ADR's and we are not making any.

Thank God! We will eat where ever we happen to be and not stress once over ADR times or were we eat. If we get into a TS place fine, if we eat counter service that's good too. Whatever happens, it's all good.

Going without plans sets you free! We will go to the park each day that strikes our fancy. We will eat when we are hungry, not when a ADR can be made.

Maybe we'll decide to go where ever the first bus is going each morning.

OMG I cant imagine!! I would never do that! It makes sense, but I have to have my structure :lmao:

We did that for our last trip. It was the most stress free trip ever. We did exactly what you are, when we were hungry, we stopped and ate somewhere. It was so nice not having to look at the watch to make sure we left earlier enough to make an ADR. We are doing the same thing again for our next trip, with the exception that we have only 2 ADR's made.

Enjoy your trip. I think you will be so happy with your decision.

That is about what I am thinking. We have the DxDP and the only ADR we have and probably only ones we will make are for a dinner show (mickeys BBQ because of limited show times) and a princess breakfast (not booked yet and with the meal in Norway might not make one.) I know we might not get the most bang for our buck but I do not have to worry about OOP expenses.

We also don't make ADR's unless it is for something like a dinner show, dessert party, etc. When we do want to have a TS meal, we do use our cell phones to check for restaurant availability while we are in the park, and have been able to get reservations for that day at one of our restaurant choices. I look for available restaurants for our desired meal at the park or location where we wish to dine. There are only two of us, so it might be easier to do. We might not be able to get our first choice, but we have gotten one of the restaurants that we wanted to try and haven't been disappointed yet by what we were able to get.

Is there a certain meal app you use?

We had the QSDP one year and it was great, no ADR's, just eat wherever (as long as it was CS), whenever. It is quite freeing and almost a little rebellious!

We did that last year. DS woke up and decided that it was Animal Kingdom day, not DHS day as I had planned. So I cancelled not only our Sci-Fi ADR, but all of them and we went to whatever park we felt like whenever we wanted (thank you park-hoppers!). We managed to get into Biergarten, Sci-Fi (the next day LOL), Tusker House, and Jiko all with little to no wait time, and this during Oct. fall break! Enjoy. . .it's so relaxing to be able to go with the flow and not rushing for every meal! Have Fun!!!

I hope it works out for you and that you have a blast.

:)

Over my last three trips to Disney, I've made exactly one ADR...for Chef Mickey's because DD #1 wanted to celebrate her birthday there.

Other than that we don't do the DP. I pack lots of favorite/healthier snacks and a sandwich each, and between that and QS locations we're happy. I don't want to plan our days around being in a certain place at a certain time to eat. That just doesn't work well with my kids and their schedules, plus they honestly hate to take the time out from the parks for a TS meal anyway.

This is how we usually do WDW. Carefree; eat when we're hungry & go where we want, when we want. This is our 1st time with the dining plan so we made some ADRs just to make sure we use up our TS meals. It will be weird to NOT just go with the flow.

Sounds wonderful. I love to taking the first bus that shows up. It adds suspense.

I love to hear this. We have a few ADRs, but do not want to be tied down to a particular park or restaurant everyday.
Is there any penalty for cancelling an ADR the day of?

No penalty for most - unless they are part of a package.

It's always good Disney Karma to cancel and not just no-show. It lets other people in that might be waiting.

We are booked in a value resort with free QS dining and want to make just 2 ADR's: Ohana dinner and Boma dinner. Well then I came up with this awesome idea: for about the same price as these two dinners, we can upgrade to the regular dining plan. :thumbsup2

I HAVE DONE NOTHING BUT PLAN ADR'S FOR THE LAST WEEK! It has seriously been stressing me out. Where should we eat? What will the boys eat? Book a breakfast so the rest of the day is not planned....But I don't want breakfast! Book somewhere we have never tried. How many credits does that leave us? UGH!

So today I have decided....no upgrade and we will pay oop for the 2 dinners we originally wanted. So what if it really isn't the best bang for my buck. I think this is the best plan for my family. :)

I am a big proponent of doing that which eliminates stress!

We did that in May, one week not one dining reservations...all my hubbys idea

It was great! We didnt have to rush anywhere, had no trouble getting into any TS (except TE which was booked solid) and we even scored a Cali Grill with just 24 hours before we ate there...thanks to the POFQ CM

What a nice change of pace, just winging it....we still had a TS for every single dinner and even walked into breakfast at Kona

Would I do it again, in a heartbeat!

We did QSDP in October 2010 for a 4 day/3 night trip it was lovely!! :) We really enjoyed it. Since then, we have done an add'l trip in March 2011 with DDP and still enjoyed it. But the QSDP trip was fun in Oct. 2010 and I did not miss a thing! :goodvibes We would definately plan another trip the same way.

:goodvibes

Is there a certain meal app you use?

It wasn't an app - it was the actual disney website. I looked up disneyworld on the internet on my phone and it directed me to m.disneyworld.disney.go.com
I then looked at dining and noticed that we could find available openings.
