NMAmy's To Do List - 4/26-Update-Page 21-The End

Tuesday, March 27 – Chapter 10 – The Best Day EVER!

Then we went on the Haunted Mansion. Another walk on. I told you this was the best day ever! As we entered the stretching room, the cutest little girl whispered loudly to her father, “Daddy, I’m scared.” We all began to reassure her (there were only about 10 of us in the room) and I told her the lights would go off in a minute but they’d come back on again shortly. This adorable little girl from another family marched over to the first little girl and said, “Here. I’ll hold your hand.” It was the sweetest thing I’d ever seen. I think they ended up riding in the Doom Buggies together. It was obvious they didn’t know each other (introductions were made on the way to the Doom Buggies) and I was just so touched by the second little girl. Caitlin is 16 and I still have to BEG her to go on the Haunted Mansion with me so I understand scared little girls. And big ones, too.

So darn cute. :cloud9:

As we rounded the corner, the little boy got up to the Dream Team member. She pulled out a box and said, “Dream Fast Passes for Everyone!” WOO HOO!!! I was SO excited. Alex wanted an explanation. “Wait a minute, what’s this, what do we do with it?” Then I hissed at him, “Just TAKE it!”

I was so excited that we had actually won a DREAM! Isn’t it purty?

Very purty! ::yes::

Alex put his in his pocket but I wore mine proudly—showing off, basically. Nanner, nanner, nanner.

You have to be careful!! I heard some people don't take kindly to nannering.

Swiss Family Treehouse is one of my mother’s fondest memories of DL and WDW. It’s one of her favorites.

It's one of my favorites too! I loved the pics.

I was feeling peckish so we decided to go to Columbia Harbor House and relax in the cool A/C while we waited for our fast pass time to roll around.

I had a sandwich with humus and broccoli slaw and a bowl of clam chowder. It was really delicious. Alex had some kind of ham sandwich thingy with chips. He ate it all so I’m guessing it was good!

Next Up: The Rest of the Best Day EVER!

CCH is one of my favorites too...you really ARE having the best Disney day ever! Thanks for making yet another cold day feel warmer. :beach:

Too cute!

This is too funny! I already warned DH & DS if we win the castle suite (yeah right) and they complain because of course being boys they are not fond of princesses, I will NEVER bring them to Disney AGAIN! So I'm right there with you on the hissing!

I was so excited that we had actually won a DREAM! I hadn’t seen the Dream Team anywhere up until now and I really never thought we’d win anyway. I spent the entire ride explaining it to Alex and scrutinizing my lovely, lovely Dream Fastpass. I think I only ended up with about 10,000 points on Buzz because I was too distracted.

:rotfl2:

Cait: You won WHAT?
Me: A dream Fastpass. For the Magic Kingdom. There’s one for Buzz Lightyear, the Jungle Cruise, Mickey’s Philharmagic, Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, BTMRR, Stitch,Winnie the Pooh, and Peter Pan.
Cait: Why didn’t you win the stay in the castle?
Me: Jeez, you’re greedy. They made my whole day with just THIS.

Typical, sweet as pie when it benefits them! It was great of you to share!
Alex and I had already decided to use the Fast Pass for some of the nerdier rides and let the girls take them to use on the mountains. I told Cait that and she squealed so loudly that she woke Jen up.

Cait: Thank you, Mommy

Swiss Family Treehouse is one of my mother’s fondest memories of DL and WDW. It’s one of her favorites. Since she refuses to go back, Alex and I went through and took some pictures for her so she could walk down memory lane (or the memory tree) whenever she’d like. So enjoy the little tour:

I like this one. I was trying to make my mom dizzy. She's nervous about heights. Which makes it a bit weird that she loves this so much!

I love the polka that plays—I have it on cd.

This is another must do for me, never been!

The park was getting busy but we didn’t care. We had DREAM FASTPASSES! Are you tired of me yet?

Never, living vicariously through you!

As we strolled toward Frontierland, I saw a crowd gathering in front of PoTC. It was Johnny Depp! I mean, Captain Jack Sparrow! The Pirate Tutorial was hysterical. There was one little boy who’d had a fancy hair cut with red gel in his spiked hair. They referred to him as Bloody Head Pete. “That’s your pirate name, mate.”

These guys did a fantastic job.

I wonder if the little boy had had the cool dude done at BBB because supposedly thats what they do gel, glitter and stuff! We are going to try and catch the tutorial as well!

Next Up: The Rest of the Best Day EVER!

As usual another great installment! :thumbsup2 Anxiously awaiting more:surfweb: ........

That is so cool! I bet you felt like a movie star with you fast pass boa!!

That was so sweet of that little girl. Maybe a new nicer generation is about to be born!! Wouldn't that be wonderful??

Wow, I got behind on my replies!

Mal: Actually, no one seemed upset with my nannering. I spent a lot of time explaining that NO, you cannot buy one, though!

dddisrunner: I was thinking the same thing about Bloody Head Pete. I wasn't sure if he was at the barbershop or at the BBB for the "cool dude."

You should really try the treehouse--it's very low tech but it's an old favorite of ours. I used to love that movie when I was a kid.

ILMICKEY: I did feel like a movie star. Alex and I were talking about what a great promotion the Year of a Million Dreams is. For a nominal cost to WDW (for the fast pass), I felt like we'd won the lottery!

I was so tickled by those little girls. They were so sweet. Now if they can just stay that way. ;)

MM: Ah, MM. Yes, I'm sorry, I suspended my hunt for the frosty mug that morning--I was too distracted by my shiny fastpass to do any shopping. :rotfl: You will be featured in the next episode, though!

Oh, and you all can have the pot roast. I'll come along, though, and fill up on potatoes and veggies. That's what I usually do when pot roast is served! :rotfl2:

Loved your last installment! Congrats on the dream fast pass!

Thanks for taking pics of the Tree House. I have been going to WDW since 1984, and I have NEVER climbed those stairs! Everytime I walk by, I hope they've added an escalator, because the last thing I want to do is MORE walking, and climbing STAIRS! But I think this year I'll give it a try! At least through your pics, I FINALLY had a chance to see what's up there!

Hurray ! You got dream fastpasses! That is so exciting! Your entire episode was great. I loved your tale of the little girl in the Haunted Mansion befriending the other frightened child. That is soooo cute. And Bloody Headed Pete? :lmao: I bet he will carry that name home with him. The Swiss Family Treehouse is one of Lowell's favorites. Boys never grow up, you know, and he loves Tom Sawyer's Island, too. I am delighted that you had such a special day, and it's only half over.

Glendamax: I'm glad you liked that installment. I felt pretty darn lucky all day! I'm also glad you liked the Swiss Family Tree House. It's one of my favorites. You should really try it sometime--the climb is not bad at all.

Kay: Both the little girls and Bloody Head Pete really made my day! I miss travelling with little ones so sometimes I live vicariously through others. Until I can afford to take my niece and her kids along--that's my dream trip!

Thanks for reading everyone!

Hi! I just found your trip report and I am loving it! Thanks so much for sharing your family's vacation with us. Congrats on those dream fast passes!

I noticed you work at a University, are you in Student Affairs? I am studying to do that now and it's always interesting to meet another professional outside of conferences.

Looking forward to reading the remainder of your report!

Tuesday, 3/27 – Chapter 11: MORE of the Best Day EVER!

Full from a yummy lunch, Alex and I went to Splash Mountain to use our regular old paper fast passes. We climbed aboard and Alex, bless his heart, got splashed as another log made the big plunge. Luckily, he caught all the splash so my hair was still normal sized. ;) He's so good to me.

As we were climbing the first hill, we ended up getting stuck. I don’t think I’ve ever been on Splash Mountain without getting stuck SOMEWHERE. This was rather uncomfortable since we were on an angle and made my neck ache. We were stuck for about 10 minutes while we heard announcements about Brer Fox and Brer Bear causing trouble downstream somewhere.

Once we were moving, we had no more delays. Alex, again, got totally soaked on the final plunge. I covered my head with my arms and the only thing that got wet was my arms. I could deal with that.

As we were exiting, a CM started handing out fast passes good for any ride in the MK due to our delay. Woo hoo! I told Alex we were just Fast Pass MAGNETS today! That meant we could ride one of the mountains with the girls.

We checked out our shiny dream fast passes to see what else was available. Hmm…Jungle Cruise. There’s another one I haven’t done in years. I know some people love it but it seems like the line is always too long to justify riding it. We had a very enthusiastic guide who did a great job.

17858wdw100-med.jpg

17858wdw101-med.jpg

Get it? ;)

17858wdw102-med.jpg

Next we were off to see Stitch. And his Great Escape. I’d never done this before but, hey, we have a fast pass to burn. We still had a bit of a line and I passed the time explaining my BEE—YOU—TEE—FULL Dream Fast Pass to people. I was still showing off. Not really—I told one lady who asked me that I’d just been lucky and I hoped she was lucky some time during her stay, too.

As we were waiting for Stitch, I got a call from the girls. They had officially arrived and would meet us after the ride.

Hmm…Stitch. I wanted to like it. It wasn’t BAD. Just not as good as it could be. Oh, and the restraints that come down, crushed my shoulder bones. I had to scooch down in my chair so it wasn’t painful. One girl sitting next to Alex asked him if the ride moved. :rotfl2: I can understand thinking that when you're lassoed in. So, my verdict on Stitch? It was okay—I wouldn’t wait in a long line for it.

The girls were waiting as we exited. They’d decided that maybe getting up early wasn’t such a bad idea after all. Not that that actually happened--they were still on New Mexico time so early for them wasn't early for those of us on Eastern Standard Time.

Caitlin has been enjoying having charging privileges on her room key. At the Dolphin, the only place she could charge to the room key was at the restaurants there. I have to admit, I told a little lie and told her the only place she could charge to with her room key at the WL was at Roaring Forks. Bless her heart, though, she was VERY good with this privilege and asked me before she did it and told me the total afterward. Since they were able to do this, they’d had breakfast/lunch at Roaring Forks and came back with one of our funniest overheard comments.

Seems as they were eating, two young kids were getting their meals. The little boy said to the little girl, “Chicken nuggets? Oh, you think you’re SO grown up!” Cait went on to explain that the chicken nuggets had come in a Mickey Mouse head plate along with apple sauce and milk. How grown up is that? This led to a discussion each time we ordered a meal for the rest of the trip: “You’re having salmon? You think you’re SO grown up!”

After giggling about this, I forlornly handed over our Dream fast passes with dire warnings that they needed to keep them safe and I wanted them back at the end of the day for the scrapbook. I was a bit emphatic, I think, and I repeated this MANY times throughout the day.

The plan was for the girls to do Space Mountain and Buzz Lightyear while Alex and I went on Carousel of Progress. Cue Mal singing Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow! I was thinking of you when I was on it, pal.

But, why, oh, why do people feel the need to bolt before the show is over thereby making everybody in the theatre sit through whatever decade we happened to be in TWICE? Okay, the first one I can understand, the woman had a screaming kid. Just don’t take that kid on Stitch, lady. If the CoP freaks them out, I wouldn’t want to see them after being locked down and forced to breathe chili dog breath.

But, then you had the people who apparently just got bored and decided to make a break for it. I think we sat through each section twice. It’s very annoying.

It ended up taking so long that the girls were able to ride both Space Mountain and Buzz while we were in there. I think Cait thought we ditched them but she knew while I might ditch her, I'd never ditch the dream fast pass.

We decided to ride Big Thunder Mountain together. Cait and Jen were firmly against Splash Mountain so early in the day because they didn’t want to get their hair wet. Oh, jeez.

17858wdw103-med.jpg

17858wdw104-med.jpg

I had nothing on the girls when it came to showing off those Dream fast passes. They were totally obnoxious, waving them around as they walked through the line and saying, “Jen, do you have your DREAM FAST PASS?” “Why, yes, Caitlin, I have my DREAM FAST PASS right here.” Here they are, showing off:

17858wdw105-med.jpg

I believe I made some comment about lazy sleep all day girls pretending like they had actually won something and “YOU”RE not early birds! NO worms for you!”

We had a great ride. Those girls can scream. I think they have a successful career awaiting them in horror movies some day.

At this point, it was getting hot and crowded that Alex and I decided to end our perfectly totally wonderful day at the MK. I left the girls with STRICT instructions not to lose my Dream fast passes and we headed down to Main Street.

This was about the time that I stopped at the Emporium on the off chance that they might have a frosty mug. I did find some souvenirs to take back home but no mug! Sorry, MM.

As we were exiting the park, the boat was standing there waiting. Just for us. Because it was our perfect day.

Once we arrived, I was getting kind of hungry so we stopped at Roaring Forks. I ran up to the room to get the mug and realized that the girls had forgotten to take the Privacy sign off the door when they left. I had 3 frantic voicemails from Lodgekeeping about getting into our room to clean.

I called and apologized and explained what had happened. I told them I’d be getting something to eat but they could stop by any time now.

Back at Roaring Forks, I got a half pan of brownies. It was enormous and supposed to be just one serving. I ate about a third of it, then handed it over to Alex. He’d been all healthy and gotten a fruit and yogurt parfait. For some reason, we’re backwards on vacation. I’m usually the healthy eater. On vacation, I go crazy. If I’m walking 30 miles a day, I can have a half a pan of brownies.

I stopped and bought a Wilderness Lodge t-shirt at the Mercantile. Oddly, we were not doing much shopping on this trip and I hadn’t brought enough shirts figuring I’d buy some. On our way back upstairs, I noticed some hidden Mickeys in the carpeting. Isn’t that cute?

17858wdw106-med.jpg

We thought we’d go the room and grab our books and find a little nook in which to read while we waited. When we went in to get our books we found out our totally fabulous mousekeeper had whisked in, cleaned up, made the beds, AND left us towel animals. Well, one animal (a bunny) and she’d wrapped a washcloth around the glass we were using as a toothbrush holder. She rocked!

17858wdw107-med.jpg

The girls came back while we were napping and they were exhausted. They’d hit everything but Mickey’s Philharmagic and Splash Mountain. Because you know, they’d get their hair wet. Sheesh. They were exhausted so we all hung out and watched Gilmore Girls and Seventh Heaven and chatted. Of course, they weren’t hungry, so we went down to Roaring Forks (again). Alex had a burger and fries and I had a yummy chicken salad with apple vinaigrette (because I’m SO grown up!) By the time we’d gotten back to the room, the girls had gotten a second wind and wanted to go back to the MK to use those last two FP’s. We decided we were too tired to brave the crowd. It had been such a perfect day, we needed to relax from it. We watched TV and waited for the Electrical Parade.

About 15 minutes before the parade was due to arrive, we refilled my mug at Roaring Forks and headed down to the beach. I was a bit concerned that we were in the wrong place because there was only one other family there when we arrived but a few more showed up just before the show started. We were able to sit in beach chairs just relaxing—it was a beautiful night, chilly enough for me to wear jeans and a sweatshirt but not uncomfortable at all.

Suddenly, with no fanfare, we saw some green lights approaching. The music began and the floats suddenly lit up one at a time.

17858wdw109-med.jpg

17858wdw110-med.jpg

17858wdw111-med.jpg

Sorry the pictures aren’t the best but the parade is kind of far away and at night so I just did the best I could. The music is very reminiscent of the Electric Lights Parade at Disneyland which I just adore. That was Cait’s very first Disney parade and I just remember the look of awe on her face when she was little.

Then, the grand finale! Patriotic music came on and we saw this:

17858wdw112-med.jpg

17858wdw113-med.jpg

I cracked Alex up by quoting Sam Eagle from Muppet Vision 3D, “A 3 hour salute to all nations but mostly AMERICA!”

This was really the perfect day for us and I loved the low-key, no crowds ending. We all cheered when it was over and then headed back to the WL.

I took this picture on the way in. Um…I never noticed this at the time but doesn’t the WL look a bit like the Amityville Horror House at night? Those top windows look like EYES.

17858wdw114-med.jpg

We watched tv in the room while we waited for the girls to come back. They had a good time on Splash Mountain since they didn’t have to worry about their hair looking bad in the dark.

When they arrived, I asked Cait for the Dream Fast Passes. She looked at Jen and just burst out laughing.

Me: What?
Cait: When we were on the boat coming back, I told Jen, “You know, this boat could sink and all my mom would ask when she found out would be—did you find our Dream Fast Passes? They’re plastic, you know, I’m sure they can be recovered just fine."

Okay, so maybe I was a bit obsessive about the darn things. But they were my first and probably only dream from the YOAMD. I’m a bit sentimental about such things. Especially since they played such a big part in our most perfect day ever.

Next Up: Moving Day (AGAIN) and MGM

I had nothing on the girls when it came to showing off those Dream fast passes. They were totally obnoxious, waving them around as they walked through the line and saying, “Jen, do you have your DREAM FAST PASS?” “Why, yes, Caitlin, I have my DREAM FAST PASS right here.” Here they are, showing off:

This sounds like my daughter! We are going in June and her friend, who lives in Florida, will meet up with us for a couple of days, and I can totally see them doing this.
What an awesome day you all had! I'm lovin' it!

DancinDaisyDuck: :welcome: I'm glad you're enjoying this!

I'm the office manager of a department office at a college. So, while I deal with a lot of students, I'm not in the Student Affairs office. And since Registration for summer and fall is beginning soon, I always feel for those people in Student Affairs this time of year! Busy, busy, busy!

LtlTee: They can be obnoxious but in a funny way, if you know what I mean. I hope you have a great trip! It's coming up soon.

DancinDaisyDuck: :welcome: I'm glad you're enjoying this!

Awesome! I am finishing up my grad program and I am a grad assistant in Career Services but I am looking to work in academic advisement. I love working on a college campus! Thanks for another amusing report (Gilmore Girls is my favorite show!)

I had to read it out loud twice. I am slow. :rotfl:

The plan was for the girls to do Space Mountain and Buzz Lightyear while Alex and I went on Carousel of Progress. Cue Mal singing Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow! I was thinking of you when I was on it, pal.

:teeth: YAY! I am in the trip report!

But, then you had the people who apparently just got bored and decided to make a break for it. I think we sat through each section twice. It’s very annoying.

How do you get bored in this? It's great!! These young'uns and their lack of attention span! ;)

We had a great ride. Those girls can scream. I think they have a successful career awaiting them in horror movies some day.

:scared1:

17858wdw107-med.jpg

Now THERE'S a towel animal!! ::yes::

Suddenly, with no fanfare, we saw some green lights approaching. The music began and the floats suddenly lit up one at a time.

I won't quote all the pics, but I love this "parade".

:rotfl:

Your TR is so much fun. I keep thinking about the girls' hair. You were right when you said at 16 you're much more willing to devote large sections of your life to it. These days, if it's clean and brushed, it's good! :thumbsup2

Another great installment! I love how the day went so smooth for you and everything was just about perfect! :thumbsup2 Including the girls hair...:rotfl: I loved that pic. of the WL @ night. I see what you mean about the amity windows though. I am so happy that you finally got a nice towel animal! This day was like 4 days into your trip, do the girls ever get over being on New Mexico time?:confused3 :rotfl2:

DancinDaisyDuck: Gilmore Girls is my favorite show, too. (And Mal and MickeysMommy, too!) I'm going to be very sad when it ends.

Mal: Of COURSE you have a cameo role in my trip report!

I thought you might like this towel animal more. It was kind of fitting because we saw bunnies all over the place at WL. We have them at our house but they take off when we open the door so I thought it was a statue or something when they'd just sit right by the path as we walked by! :rotfl:

I think the hair thing changes once you have a child of your own. Cait's hair was so long when she was little I always spent way more time washing and brushing hers than my own. :rotfl2:

dddisrunner: No, the girls stayed on New Mexico time all week. Which was okay because I'm sure they'd have been goofed up when they got back. In fact, Cait usually stays on New Mexico time the whole time she's in Michigan (which is all summer long!)

Thanks for reading, everyone! I really appreciate hearing from you!
