NMAmy's Spring Break 2010 Trip Report--Girls Gone Mild! Update 5/18

Those candy apples look good (insert joke about me being too old for them here).

:lmao: You're much closer to the correct age group than I am, Hedy. The caramel alone would yank my teeth right out.

I'm sad to hear about the viewfinders. You'd think they'd keep them for the tie-in to the TSM queue, if nothing else. I *think* my nephews are looking forward to going there in 2011-Mordie has announced several times he's not going any place that won't let him wear a baseball cap, but then he'll gloat about Ferdie getting in trouble. Fourteen year olds, can't forget them at the store, but they are still precious. :rotfl::rotfl:

I love it when they make teenage boys take off their baseball hats. :rotfl: On one trip, a boy was talking on his cell phone and the server told him, "You know Mom doesn't allow walkie-talkies at the table!"

Wow Amy, you are doing good on these updates!

I love the opening ceremony at MK. Always brings a tear to my eye. sniff sniff I will so have to notice Alice's skirt raising trick next time. That's a very good observation.

Never thought about the 999,999 score on Buzz Lightyear. I guess it does dull out the fun. But good job on getting it Amy!

Cute photopass pictures.

I think they took out the Tom Morrow bit on TTA because it's was bit outdated. ALL they had to do was change ONE word. Paging Mr. Morrow.. Mr. Tom Morrow...............Please give them a TEXT. There, up to date.

Great pictures of the Flower and Garden Festival. I am a big flower gardener so I extra like them. :thumbsup2

Sounds like a good time was had at Prime Time.

Funny encounter with housekeeping!

Three parks, relaxed pace, no planning and a nap. I like it!

Wow Amy, you are doing good on these updates!

Why, thank you, ma'am!

I love the opening ceremony at MK. Always brings a tear to my eye. sniff sniff I will so have to notice Alice's skirt raising trick next time. That's a very good observation.

I like the opening ceremony, too, especially when they throw the pixie dust and the little kids get so excited. Too bad Caitlin won't see it again!

Never thought about the 999,999 score on Buzz Lightyear. I guess it does dull out the fun. But good job on getting it Amy!

I was very proud of myself until I realized I couldn't play anymore. ;)

Cute photopass pictures.

Thank you, again! Wait until you see some of the other goofy ones we got.

I think they took out the Tom Morrow bit on TTA because it's was bit outdated. ALL they had to do was change ONE word. Paging Mr. Morrow.. Mr. Tom Morrow...............Please give them a TEXT. There, up to date.

Now, THAT is a change I could have lived with! :thumbsup2

Great pictures of the Flower and Garden Festival. I am a big flower gardener so I extra like them. :thumbsup2

I'm glad you like them! This was our first time ever being there for the festival. Usually, they're still setting up while we're there so we don't get the full effect. It was really beautiful.

Funny encounter with housekeeping!

Or scary. I kept thinking--sheesh, an axe murderer could have walked in and we'd have never noticed. Not that I've ever seen stray axe murderers around WDW but you never know.

Three parks, relaxed pace, no planning and a nap. I like it!

It's the only way to do WDW, my friend!

Great start Amy...I am behind!:scared1: LOVE the refurbed POP rooms! Caitlin looks beautiful and so grown up! Brittany is adorable too! Yay for Cait not worrying about Stormtroopers this trip!:thumbsup2 Cute update from 50's Prime Time! Wow, Alex and Cait are surprising you all over the place! Ewww on the apples, my teeth hurt looking at them!:goodvibes

Here's the view from our pal, Lou. I've got my trusty scissors and glue stick and I'll be utilizing my mad cutting and pasting skills!

Lou said:
Quoting you: I’m very good about updating fairly often unless some major life event occurs.

You’re not pregnant are you?

Seriously? You start out by cursing me, Lou? :lmao: Just for the record, no, I'm not pregnant. Thank heavens.

Lou said:
Quoting you: I’m Amy, 40-something. My darling husband is Alex, 50-something. Caitlin is 19 and Brittany, one of her college friends, is 19, as well.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Quoting you: And re-reading this, I see I've given us the most boring descriptions imaginable.

What? Huh? Did someone say something? I think I dozed off.

Just trying to give everyone time for a little nap.

Lou said:
Quoting you: Le Cellier? No problem!

Apparently that is only a problem for last minute vegetarian solo travelers.

Well, sure. It's difficult to find a good veggie steak. REALLY difficult.

Lou said:
Quoting you: Alex, of course, was asleep before the bus had pulled out

Were you telling him how you were going to describe all of you in your trip report?

:rotfl: Yep. We even find ourselves snooze inducing.

Lou said:
Quoting NMCaitlin: “Mom, how do you cook artichokes?”

Okay here’s one of two reasons I’m here. I actually like artichokes. And they are the kind of thing that I eat maybe once or twice a year. My mom used to make them and now my sister has taken over that task since my mom passed away. And my daughter just happened to ask my sister to make them for when we would be visiting for Easter. And then I read this and it was karma. Well maybe not karma but it was fate or something like that. BTW the second reason was not the strong arm tactics of some other un-named trip report writer (let her drum up interest about her story somewhere else). It’s because you have a golden retriever. Or because you have a random photo of someone else’s golden in your signature. Either way I had to come here.

I'm so glad that the artichokes and my dog drew you in. Yes, she lets us live in her house. We have opposable thumbs and can drive to the store to get dog food and treats. I'm talking about the dog, not Caitlin. Although they do have a lot of similar personality traits.

Oh, and all the cool people love artichokes. I've been saying that for years.

Lou said:
Quoting TheSponge: “MOM! There was a fire in the dorm!”

Someone must have been trying to make artichokes.

I don't think they followed my instructions exactly.

Lou said:
Quoting you: I like to know I’m going to have clothes to wear during our trip

Unlike some other trip reporters we know.

I didn't know that all one really needed for a trip to WDW was a strategically placed scarf.

Lou said:
Quoting you: Caitlin ALWAYS has clothing issues--either everything is dirty or there's too much to fit in the suitcase or she's forgotten some key component. Drama, drama, drama.

Wow that is so uncanny. That sounds just like…..every other woman on the planet.

Except hucifer.

Lou said:
Quoting you: And I knew the artichoke question would come up!

They are even better with a breadcrumb stuffing.

I'll have to try that. Am I swapping recipes with Lou? I never really thought that would happen.

Lou said:
Quoting you: Our bus mojo continued—as we arrived at the bus stop, the Epcot bus pulled up.

Did you know there is also a boat to Epcot depending on where you are and where you’re going? I just found out that not everyone knows that.

I just read that somewhere recently, too.

Lou said:
Quoting ABC Mama: Hi NMAmy, I followed you over from Hucifer's TR.

More like ran away kicking and screaming from Hucifer’s TR.

I was thinking more like got bored waiting for an update. ;)

Lou said:
Quoting you: can of pop
Midwesterners.

Guilty as charged!

Lou said:
Quoting you: In keeping with Caitie’s desire to make an effort to do some of the smaller stuff and the fact that rain had made the proximity of a ride a deciding factor, we rode the Haunted Mansion.

Since when is the Haunted Mansion small stuff?

When you're 19.

Lou said:
Quoting WendyHadStormyEyes: That's awful! What DO they say on the new TTA anyway?

Paging Hucifer…reports coming in about gases from Uranus….

:rotfl:

Lou said:
Quoting you: Be prepared--I have lots of pictures of topiaries.

I’m glad to see you also have lots of pictures of the characters carved out of the bushes and flowers.

Oh, that's just the beginning, buster.

Lou said:
Quoting you: Three parks in one day at a relaxed pace AND a nap!
Call me when you’re in my league of 4 parks in a day.

I always seem to leave out the Animal Kingdom. :confused3

Hi, Diane! Oh, Cait was still worried about Stormtroopers. :rotfl: And I don't think they ever finished the apples--they'd cut off a bit and get sugar all over the kitchen counter and then stick them back into the fridge. I think I ended up throwing about 3/4's of each one away on our last morning.

Here's the view from our pal, Lou. I've got my trusty scissors and glue stick and I'll be utilizing my mad cutting and pasting skills!

Yaaaaay!!!! :yay:

I want to know what this feels like as a casual observer. I'm ready!

Well, sure. It's difficult to find a good veggie steak. REALLY difficult.
You're not whistling Dixie, missy. ...or, are you?

Oh, and all the cool people love artichokes. I've been saying that for years.
All 3 of us at Hucifer Manor love artichokes too.

I didn't know that all one really needed for a trip to WDW was a strategically placed scarf.
Readers are leaders.

I'll have to try that. Am I swapping recipes with Lou? I never really thought that would happen.
You probably also never thought you'd be copy/pasting his replies to your TR, either.

I just read that somewhere recently, too.
Enough already!!!!!

I was thinking more like got bored waiting for an update. ;)
One is coming today! I promise!

Yes, that Loubon of ours. Such a kidder.

Ahhhh...that was nice and refreshing. A little Loubon without all the work. I like it. :thumbsup2

Watching the weather report didn't help at all! You were the smart one to just carry the ponchos anyway. ;)

Hmm, I don't know about that. I left them with my DH while I went walking around with DD. He was safe and dry at the Indiana Jones show while I was walking around Streets of America with nothing to protect us from the rain. By the time we got back to him we were a sopping wet mess.

There is no way I could eat one of those caramel apples. Sure, they're pretty all dressed up like Minnie Mouse, but that is way too much sugar and I'm a chocoholic. I'm 35 though, a little too old for them I suppose.:rotfl:

This was dinner not a command meeting with the Queen. If we were late, we were late. If they couldn’t seat us, we’d find something else. It was not the end of the world. Once I made this conscious decision to stop fussing about ADR’s, everything went much smoother for us for the rest of the trip.

 Man oh man, do I need someone to tell me just this on a regular basis!

Caitlin: Jeez, drinking is wasted on old people. I can't wait until I'm 21!
Me: I'll totally buy you a blue glowing martini when you're 21. Because nothing says I'm a mature adult like a glowing ice cube.
:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

Caitlin then shocked me again by asking Cousin Eric if he’d pose with them. He looks a little gangster in this pose, doesn’t he?

CIMG2271.jpg
That, or a little "Streetmosphere"...

I gotta say, even as a vegetarian...bacon is gooooooooooood.
Bwahahahaha!!! Oh hucifer... I'll confess I had the very same thought as I read that part! :rotfl2: TFI, soy-bacon does NOT work the same way in greens. At all. :sad2:

I was travelling with a Brit. You'd think he'd have brought a raincoat, too, wouldn't you? Rain doesn't seem to bother him as much as me, though. All that early conditioning. :lmao:
Hmmm, I hadn't thought about that angle... I've known quie a few Brits living here in FL and the rain never seems to bother them, either!

Monday, March 22, 2010

Alex and I were up early (big surprise!) and decided to head to the Animal Kingdom for EMH’s which started at 8:00. As I was puttering around the kitchen, Brittany sleepily told me that she might come along. I found this a little difficult to believe since they’d been out so late. Apparently, they had good intentions because I heard Caitlin’s alarm going off, as well. Of course, we ended up going on our own.

Our bus arrived quickly but we weren’t able to board right away due to a man who decided to berate the bus driver for not driving an MK bus. Since he was pretty loud, I can tell you that this was the third bus going to the AK but no buses had come along for the MK. Since AK had early entry, I didn’t find this particularly surprising but his princesses were anxious to get to breakfast at the castle so I can understand his issue. After our driver radioed the request in, we were actually able to board the bus and head off for our morning adventure.

We accidentally timed it perfectly—we entered just after rope drop so we didn’t have to wait for the opening show. We headed back to Expedition Everest and climbed aboard with no wait at all. We could have ridden again immediately but what was left of my month long sinus infection did not enjoy those sudden changes in altitude. We got fast passes for later and headed over to the safari.

Some views from the long trek from Asia to Africa:

CIMG2276.jpg

Mountain Rescue is here (and looking a bit surprised that I'd swung the camera toward him):

CIMG2274.jpg

CIMG2273.jpg

It was a chilly morning which worked out great because all the animals were up and about—I think I saw more animals on this trip than any other. Lions, elephants, hippos, ostriches—everybody was up and ready for breakfast. We were in the back row and seated in front of us was a lady with an enormous camera. About halfway through, she decided to sort of stand in the car (I’m still not sure how she did it) so she could take better photos while her husband propped her up. My notes say, “Very annoying.” I'm just the master of understatement in my notes.

Walking toward Dinoland:
CIMG2278.jpg

Every trip, I end up with a photo of this building. I really like the color:

CIMG2277.jpg

We then headed over to Primeval Whirl and again had no wait. We went for a spin with a nice lady and her young son. Then we hit Dinosaur. I took a few pictures to show Caitie how empty the park is at that time of day. Since she’s never going to see it.

CIMG2279.jpg

CIMG2280.jpg

Adding in a little story here—I talked to Cait yesterday and we were discussing her room. It’s time to repaint it. When she was about 14, she chose a Nickelodeon color—Sponge Bob’s Bikini Bottom Blue. It’s really blue. REALLY blue. We’re going to have to use a couple of coats of primer blue. So, I asked her what color she wanted to paint it this time.

Caitlin: I want my room to be yellow because it reminds me of sunshine.

Me: Why? So in the middle of the night when you’re awake, you can look around and think, “Hey, this must be what daytime looks like.”?

By then, it was time for our fast pass so we headed back to Expedition Everest and went for another spin. That’s it. By 9:30 a.m., we had done everything we wanted to do at the Animal Kingdom. It was starting to get busy but we were feeling like we’d made very productive use of our 1.5 hours. Expedition Everest twice, safari, Primeval Whirl, Dinosaur and done! We took the bus back to the Boardwalk to take a little rest.

We were back so early that the Boardwalk was still deserted. Hard to tell we were there at such a busy time, isn't it?

CIMG2281.jpg

CIMG2282.jpg

We were supposed to have lunch at Raglan Road but, as expected, the girls didn’t want to get up for that. I made some grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch along with chips and salsa. We spent a quiet afternoon reading and watching tv. The girls finally were up and ready to go around 4:00. They wanted to eat on the Boardwalk and Alex and I wanted to eat in Morocco.

Cait seemed to want to hang out with us so we walked down to the Boardwalk with them to sit with them while they ate. Caitlin wanted something from one kiosk and Brittany wanted pizza from the pizza window so I asked which one of them Alex and I should accompany.

Cait: I call Mommy!

Me: Are you sure? Because Alex is much more generous with his pocket money than Mommy is.

Cait: I call Alex!

Alex: Too late, you’ve already crushed my feelings.

Cait got a chili dog and chili fries and Brit got her pizza and we hung out with them while they ate. Some of Caitlin’s duck friends happened by. Caitlin immediately named them Harry and Bill and we saw them many times during our trip. Or it could have been other ducks that just looked like Harry and Bill but for us, all ducks are now Harry and Bill.

The girls headed to MGM and Alex and I went to Epcot for lamb schwarma, hummus, and tabbouleh in Morocco. It was delicious.

Here's the Princess and the Frog garden at Epcot:

CIMG2286.jpg

CIMG2287.jpg

We then took the boat over to MGM to meet them for late night EMH’s.

Again—no plan, a nap, and three parks in one day. I know you're in awe.

By the time we got there, the girls were in the American Idol show. We went on ToT (which they both hate) and only had about a 20 minute wait. Twenty minute wait with a bunch of teenage boys. Sigh. It seemed much longer to me.

CIMG2290.jpg

There were way too many annoying teenagers at MGM and the lines for everything else were 60 minutes. The girls decided to see the 7:00 finale so we just decided to head on back to the hotel since we’d already hit all the smaller rides there. We had an early night again.

Because the girls spent the day sleeping, we’d driven housekeeping insane. They kept knocking on the door on and off all day. I called to let them know when we’d left and when Alex and I arrived back at 8:00, they were still cleaning our rooms! I wasn’t aware that there was an evening cleaning crew at the Boardwalk but we kept running into them.

We waited for awhile on the porch and I took some pictures to amuse myself.

CIMG2293.jpg

There was this adorable little girl who was playing tag with her older siblings. The sidewalk must have been "free" because she would run from one edge of the green to the other--on her tippy toes in a little dress--and that child was FAST. It was like watching a little fairy flit from one side to the other. :rotfl: She kept me amused for quite awhile.

CIMG2295.jpg

CIMG2294.jpg

We went back and she was still cleaning. Really? I mean, the girls are slobs but I had nagged them into picking up after themselves. We sat in some chairs by the elevators and Alex told me that it was creepy—the music and the décor reminded him of the Tower of Terror. We finally managed to get back into our room around 8:30.

Next up--How many parks will we hit on Tuesday?

Yaaaaay!!!! :yay:

I want to know what this feels like as a casual observer. I'm ready!

Pretty cool, eh?

You're not whistling Dixie, missy. ...or, are you?

I'm not a very good whistler so, no.

All 3 of us at Hucifer Manor love artichokes too.

Like I said, all the cool people like artichokes. :thumbsup2

Readers are leaders.

Remember this for the next update. :lmao:

You probably also never thought you'd be copy/pasting his replies to your TR, either.

Well, that's true. I love Lou's comments so I'm willing to cut and paste. As are you. :rotfl:

Hmm, I don't know about that. I left them with my DH while I went walking around with DD. He was safe and dry at the Indiana Jones show while I was walking around Streets of America with nothing to protect us from the rain. By the time we got back to him we were a sopping wet mess.

:rotfl2: Oh, you're totally past the age limit on the caramel apples. Your kids will be begging for them soon, though!

 Man oh man, do I need someone to tell me just this on a regular basis!

I'll send you a PM occasionally to remind you, V. :rotfl: It took me a whole lotta trips to WDW to get it.

That, or a little "Streetmosphere"..

Yeah, what's up with all the gangster posing at MGM anyway?

Bwahahahaha!!! Oh hucifer... I'll confess I had the very same thought as I read that part! :rotfl2: TFI, soy-bacon does NOT work the same way in greens. At all. :sad2:

HA! I knew that no one could resist the power of bacon. Not even vegetarians.

Hmmm, I hadn't thought about that angle... I've known quie a few Brits living here in FL and the rain never seems to bother them, either!

When they were young, their mothers told them to buck up and quit whining about the rain.

Every trip, I end up with a photo of this building. I really like the color:

CIMG2277.jpg

Quiet Amy! Or someone will paint our hallway that color - which would be better than the horrid pink on the first floor (sorry everyone, Amy and I work in the same office so I have to comment about the weird colors popping up around campus.) :goodvibes Actually, I like the color of that building also.

My notes say, “Very annoying.” I'm just the master of understatement in my notes.
You have to be brief while writing on the go...that's why they're called "notes."

You're relentless. :lmao:

Expedition Everest twice, safari, Primeval Whirl, Dinosaur and done!
No Nemo? Bug's Life?

The girls finally were up and ready to go around 4:00.

Did I read that right? The girls got up at FOUR IN THE AFTERNOON????

Again—no plan, a nap, and three parks in one day. I know you're in awe.
Impressive.

Because the girls spent the day sleeping
Since you're the Master of Understatements, I'll let that sentence speak for itself.

Sometimes it's the best way to pass the time. :)

Next up--How many parks will we hit on Tuesday?
Four. With TWO naps and an afternoon delight.

For some reason you being with all the teenage boys while the girls were elsewhere is funny.

Wow, you got a lot done at AK in only 1.5 hours. I can't believe you rode Primeval Hurl, oops I mean Whirl. I've ridden it once and it made me so sick I vowed never to ride it again. I don't bother taking DS to that area for fear he will ask to ride it.

And yeah, we did miss each other again. :lmao: We went back to Epcot in the evening that day, probably right after you left.

You guys are good with your AK timing. Early entry is awesome.

It's funny how the Boardwalk picture looks so calm, quiet, like the day has not been touched yet, and you two have already conquered EE, Primeval Whirl, and Dinosaur!

So sweet that Caitlin wanted to hang out with her mommy. :goodvibes

Did mousekeeping ever hit your room right?

I'm guessing that you hit 3 parks and took a nap on Tuesday.......and changed your dinner plans.:)

:lmao: I'd love to repaint with that color instead of Pepto-Bismol pink. They need to put you and I in charge of color selection, Kate.

You have to be brief while writing on the go...that's why they're called "notes."

Well, I don't carry a notepad on the bus like some folks do. I actually take my laptop and type everything up during our afternoons at the hotel or in the evening. So, really, I could be more expansive in my notes. ;)

Sponge Bob Yellow Head?

I'm totally looking for this at Lowe's. :thumbsup2

You're relentless. :lmao:

I did restrain myself from really emphasizing the fact that we took the BOAT from Epcot to MGM. Well, I restrained myself for awhile but not for very long, I guess. You're right. I am relentless.

No Nemo? Bug's Life?

Nemo didn't start until 10:30 or 11 and we didn't feel like waiting. We briefly discussed A Bug's Life and then decided to pass this time.

Did I read that right? The girls got up at FOUR IN THE AFTERNOON????

:rotfl: I KNOW!!! Actually, they were up earlier--but primping takes a long time. Sigh. You're lucky Patrick is a boy. He'll still sleep late when he's a teen but there won't be so much preparation involved in leaving the hotel room.

Impressive.

Very.

Sometimes it's the best way to pass the time. :)

Yeah, if I don't have a little one of my own to watch, I'll just watch whoever is handy.

Four. With TWO naps and an afternoon delight.

:lmao: Nope.

For some reason you being with all the teenage boys while the girls were elsewhere is funny.

Yeah, the boys would have probably preferred Cait and Brit. Cait kept seeing the teenage boys and would sneer under her breath, "High school boys." :lmao: We had an encounter with one on our last day that I'll tell you guys about.

Wow, you got a lot done at AK in only 1.5 hours. I can't believe you rode Primeval Hurl, oops I mean Whirl. I've ridden it once and it made me so sick I vowed never to ride it again. I don't bother taking DS to that area for fear he will ask to ride it.

I love Primeval Whirl! I've actually waited 45 minutes for one spin on that thing.

:rotfl: And I'm betting that we were never in the same park at the same time!

You guys are good with your AK timing. Early entry is awesome.

I totally agree. I :lovestruc early entry.

It's funny how the Boardwalk picture looks so calm, quiet, like the day has not been touched yet, and you two have already conquered EE, Primeval Whirl, and Dinosaur!

:rotfl: I know--I was surprised that it was so empty; that's why I took some photos.

So sweet that Caitlin wanted to hang out with her mommy. :goodvibes

We actually had one of our best trips ever. She was just so charming and fun and really wanted to do stuff with us. It was wonderful.

Did mousekeeping ever hit your room right?

Now that I think about it--no. :lmao: That was really our fault, though, not mousekeeping's. We couldn't synch our schedules.

I'm guessing that you hit 3 parks and took a nap on Tuesday.......and changed your dinner plans.:)

Nope!

The line was already pretty long and, frankly, Space Mountain and I have had issues for awhile now.

And you will continue to have issues until you sit down together and really talk it out. Have you considered counseling? I hate to see you two fighting like this.

Normally this would have been annoying, however, as I was randomly shooting into the next room, it came to my attention that I now had perfect access to a 100,000 point target. It was like shooting fish in a barrel, so to speak. I racked up my highest score ever at 999,999 points.

Good for you. Cheater It doesn’t matter how you got there yes it does just as long as you got there. Totally bogus.

“You there. Pretend you are the paparazzi and I am some famous movie star. Photograph us and make sure you take as many pictures as possible, please.”

NMAmy’s ready for her close-up, Mr. DeMille

Ariel's Grotto:

CIMG2249.jpg
At first glance, I thought the Ariel in your photo was a live monkey.

Florida weather people are just big, fat rain liars

Ouch....but I'm going to give you extra points for originality.

We then went to Cosmic Ray’s. Because it was close and because it was raining still.

big, fat rain liars

Here's the Princess and the Frog garden at Epcot:

CIMG2286.jpg
Um, wow. Has the WDW budget been cut so deep they gave up on topiaries in favor of cardboard cutouts?!

Again—no plan, a nap, and three parks in one day. I know you're in awe.
Indeed, I am! :cool1:

When they were young, their mothers told them to buck up and quit whining about the rain.
Good point - stiff upper lip and all. ;)

Hey, guys, I haven't forgotten you but my mom's been in the hospital. She's doing okay now and is home but it's pretty hectic. I'll reply to everyone this weekend -- including Lou, who wrote some hilarious replies that I was reading when I got the call. I'm hoping this does not cause some Pavlovian response that makes me run out of the house and hop in my car whenever I read an email from Lou. ;)
