Did you have to show proof of ADDRESS even if you haven't moved? My dad is going today. His current address is already on his license...soooo didn't he ALREADY PROVE he lives there?

I would say yes, and he needs to bring a utility bill.

I had mine updated last February and I had to go home and get a utility bill and come back. Crazy since I hadn't moved either. That's NJ DMV (or whatever it's called now) for you.

He lives with us. We own the house, so nothing is in his name. He can bring his bank statement or something like that. THe problem is he cannot hear me on the phone and he doesn't KNOW to bring this. He's going to my sister's house so she can bring him to DMV. I am hoping his tax papers are at my sister's house (BIL does his taxes) and they can bring those.

Since all our house bills are in DH's name I just brought a bank statement with me. I had my birth certificate, passport, bank statement, employee ID. and current non-picture license. Since I had my passport they weren't that interested in most of the other stuff although they looked at it.

As I recall to get a Digital Driver License (I didn’t have one before) I brought:

Proof of age and identification: (6 points)

4 points: birth certificate
1 point: property tax statement
1 point: bank statement

Proof of address:

PSE&G bill

Proof of SS:

Pay stub

Even though it was a pain in the butt getting the documents together (don’t ask what I went through getting an official copy of my birth certificate (I’m a Hudson County baby)).. it’s nice to see NJ is doing something to stop the wrong people from getting a drivers license.

HUDSON COUNTY babies are the best! :thumbsup2

I renewed mine in Dec. I brought my required papers and it was a breeze. Total time from when I walked in the door until I walked out the door was 10 mins.! :thumbsup2

I just renewed on Tuesday- I wouldn't call it a breeze (took about an hour, mostly sitting and waiting) but it went smoothly. I had a utility bill as proof of address but they didn't even ask to see it, they just used my license renewal slip for that (since the MVC is a "gov't agency" and obviously I received the form at that address!) I don't know if all offices do it this way, but I don't see why they wouldn't.

They are just going to other states now and coming back here to NJ. I cant tell you how many cars I see with North Carolina plates. I dont know if its alot easier in that state or what :confused3

I can relate!!! Last week was my first trip to DMV in 20 years to get my first picture license and my guy at DMV still refused to accept a Hudson County birth certificate!!!! He cited that there were still too many good forgeries out there and he just wouldn't take it.....Thankfully, I didn't need it because I grabbed my passport - but if I needed it....UGH.

Can something like that be left up to the discrimation of the individual or the individual DMV office?

Yikes!!! I have seen and heard of stories where odler women have left in tears because they did not have all of the required paperwork.

If your a married or divorced woman you have to bring morei tems to prove who you are. Some of the older ladies may not have easy access to these original records.
