Now I am ruined!!! I returned to the NJ beach for the first time today , since my return from my first cruise on the Wonder, in April of this year.........:earseek:

I AM SICK!!!!! I cant stop thinking about how nice it was to see the ocean floor, and how sparkling clear the waters where in the Bahamas, and how white the beaches where, did I mention the fact about them being spotless??

I have been a Jersey Beach goer since I was a little girl, and now I found myself crazy about thinking how quick I can get back on the ship and return to PARADISE!

:smooth:

I think I need a stiff drink, I am bummed, I need to move to the islands I think!

LOL, yes New Jersey beaches sure can make you dream of the Caribbean, can't they?

It wasn't until I saw the waters of the Caribbean that I questioned why on earth I cannot see my feet in 15 inches of water at the Jersey shore.

I don't want to think about it.

PLUS our water NEVER gets warm enough until about end of August! :faint: At least the Caribbean doesn't have hospital waste washing ashore. :crazy2:

Okay, that is enough of that...

I have spent the last 40 years at the Jersey shore and although I agree with some of the sentiment I'll be damned if I won't defend the Jersey shore.

I agree that the Caribbean has crystal blue waters, but so does a swimming pool. The sands at my beach are not that much different than the Carribean.

Surfing, body boarding, rafting, skim boarding, etc., are all a lot of fun and none of those can you enjoy in the Caribbean.

Personally I think that they both have their advantages, but don't bad mouth New Jersey when a very high percentage of Disney vacationers and cruisers come from New Jersey and participate in these boards.

Respectfully,

Jeff

I'm another big fan of the NJ shore! Just take a look at my tags and my first countdown timer! :sunny: I grew up there and the ONLY time there was "medical waste" washing up on the beaches was about 17-18 years ago, and it was waste from a NEW YORK hospital, and they closed the beaches until it was all cleaned up. NJ has the softest sand beaches on the north east coast :) I found this out the hard way; when I moved up here to Massachusetts I couldn't believe how rough and rocky the beaches up here were! Not to mention that the water NEVER warms up. I'm not knocking the beaches of Massachusetts because I think ALL beaches are beautiful, but usually it's the people who aren't familiar with NJ and its beaches that are the ones who knock it!

Ok, back to your regularly scheduled thread :sunny: ;)

I just got back from the Jersey Shore this week and over the weekend the water was really great there....there was no "shock" when you walked in, I couldn't believe how warm it was! The best thing was watching a group of dolphins go back and forth down the shore, I had never seen anything like that there before!

I live at the Jersey Shore, as you can see by my tag it doesn't get more southern in New Jersey than the county that I live in. I enjoy the beaches here- when they are not over run by tourists shaking out their Sandy blankets on you, feeding the seagulls (we refer to them as sky rats they are so aggressive and very dirty, if you feed one, you have 30, one actually stole a sandwich right out of my daughters hand while she was sitting down, and broke the skin on her finger thanks to the rude people feeding them on the very crowded beach not 10 feet away from us!) and lets not mention those green heads ;) All in all though I love the beaches, they are clean, you can't see the bottom of the ocean because it is rougher and stirs up more sand, not because of pollution... I remeber the medical waste story too, hasn't happened since, and you can see the epa helicopters just about every morning testing water samples all along the beaches.

Well...let me just say that Carribean beaches are much better than Indiana beaches and I dare anyone to defend this one!

And there are beaches in Indiana .... at Lake Monroe, Indiana Beach and even Indiana Dunes at Lake Michigan. (someone might try to defend that one, but I have never been there.) Okay, someone take the challenge! ;)

Who the heck is bad mouthing NEW JERSEY???

I am entitled to what I feel, and I am just saying now I have a taste for another island, other than Ocean City, NJ, I AM MISSING IT!!! I live in this state, for a reason, so why must people choose to think that absolute worst here?

Sometimes I wonder why some of these posts get sooo personal, and wasnt it the idea of sharing with fellow DCL passengers part of the reason why we all come back to read?

I dont want to feel on the defensive anymore when I post here, I just plainly give my opinion. Sad to say, this is not a debate forum, and alot of people choose to take it that way.

Lets be honest, shall we??

:rotfl:

Thank you for the humor here.

My goodness, relax people! I'm guessing the OP will still go to the Jersey shore, as will I!

In our opinions, we'd rather be in the Caribbean!

Don't get so excited!!

IT'S A BEACH!

i seldom post anymore but i could not resist. i am a (proud) jersey girl and we spent every summer, all summer at the beach. yes, the caribbean is beautiful as are the beaches in california and hawaii but i will take the jersey shore every time. i love the waves, the refereshing temperature of the water, the boardwalk, the food.

until my parents passed we spent our vacation in ocean city with the rest of my family.

you can take the girl out of jersey but you can't take the jersey out of the girl.

Coastal waters off of US are due to a number of factors. A primary reason is that there are major rivers flowing into them which discharge large amounts of sediment which remains suspended, also nutrients in the effluent encourage plankton growth. No major rivers flowing into Caribbean, and the islands are in close proximity to DEEP ocean waters which are essentially crystal clear. In order to reach crystal clear H2O off NJ, you have to venture offshore about 200 miles to deep water free of sediment.

I love the ocean, wherever it is! When I'm in the water at Cape May, I do think of being on a cruise, but mostly, I think I'm the luckiest person in the world. 90% of my summertime trips to the beach I see dolphins right off the shore! On a cruise, I'm the one either on my own balcony or in a public place staring at the ocean and looking for flying fish!

I was in the Cape May's water on Friday June 18th, low tide, chilly, but perfect. My countdown tells me just how close my trip to CC is, yeah!

I agree, people. Lighten up, fellow New Jerseyeans. If you had read my tag, you would have seen I am also from New Jersey. We go to the shore every year. But let's admit it now, we have had some bad summers with beaches closing and unidentified items showing up on the shores.

BUT DON'T FLAME ME AGAIN -- really, I love New Jersey. I've lived here for more than 20 years and we go to the boardwalk and the casinos and the beaches all the time.

However, in all the beaches I've been to in NJ -- NONE of them can compare to the Caribbean, seriously. But if you live here, and it's all you have, the beaches are great. However, once you touch upon the sands of the Caribbean, ANY other beach would not be as sweet. IMHO....:teeth:

Comparing the New Jersey beaches to the Caribbean beaches is like comparing an ice cream sundae to a steak. What is the point?

This isn't a local board. It's read by lots of people who have never been to New Jersey, and have formed their impression of our state by watching "The Sopranos."

I don't think we need to reinforce the perception that our beaches are dirty when they are, in fact, among the cleanest in the world.

Sorry if I come across as grouchy. I am grouchy.

I live 1/2 block from the beach (all year round) in the town listed in my tag. I agree--it's not a Caribbean Beach. Why would I want to go there if the beach was the same? I love both. I love the beach here in October when all the summer people are gone, the days are still warm, and so is the water. I like sitting on my patio at night and hearing the waves crash, even though I can't see them from my house.

I also love sitting on the beach at CC in December, when the water is a whole lot warmer than it would be here!

I think I just love any kind of beaches!

Beth

So please, dont tell me I cant post my views on this board, in regards to your comment on this is not a local board.

I have every right to say what I choose, and dont expect to be blasted for it. Too many times on this board, I have gotten rather nasty replies, and now I dont care to share anything anymore, it is a shame.

There are some real genuine helpful people on this board, and there is some that feel the need to prove a point, and drive it real hard.

SEe ya!

Born and raised Jersey Girl here, 7 miles from AC to be exact. I have the freckles to show for my summers at the beach. LOL
Now we are fortunate enough to live in NC about 70 miles from the beaches. (hubby is in the AF) Trust me we have seen some beautiful beaches all over the world. Have the jersey beaches gone downhill from erosion, a little, are they the same as when I grew up, no, but nothing is. But I honestly don't think anyone was bashing Jersey beaches.
Did I love CC? Oh heck yes, would I love to be there now, Oh heck yeah!!!!!! CC beach over a Jersey beach, in a NJ minute. Now someone please bring me a Konk Cooler, I tip very well....LOL::yes::

After spending the last 16 summers on Brigantine Island, NJ my in-laws just sold their beach front home. Short of the green heads I'd give anything to be on a Jersey beach right now. Nothing beats body surfing with the kids now 10 and 13 not even the clear waters of the Carribean.

Born raised in NJ and I was not at all offended by the comments. After all I am used t them. I remember our first trip to Disney when the cm would say OH you are from Jersey Look there is a tree.Being from Monmouth Co where there are lots of trees I never got it but it is all in good fun.
NJ Beaches are fine but they are NOT the carribean and no one expects them to be.
BTW what are green heads?I feel so clueless.
