Does anyone have a Wii that can help me. I want to buy one for Christmas but I have NO idea what is needed. There is tons of accessories and I don't know which ones are must haves lol.

So how many controllers do you need? How many people can play at one time? It looks like Ebay has some knock offs for controllers that seem to be much cheaper than the 50.00 ones in sthe stores.

Do you need the sports kit? (golf club, baseball bat, wheel ect?)

Which games would you recomend for a family of 4? It would be cool if everyone could play at once but again that is an extra 150.00 for extra remotes. Kids are 9 and 7....

I would get at least one extra remote and nunchuck to start with. Games our family enjoy are wii sports(comes with system), mario kart(they like to use it with a steering wheel, one comes with game usually and then get additional one for each additional remote you have). the girls also enjoy a disney princess one and dogz. dh likes football ones. We don't have any of the sports accessories. We have 3 remotes and nunchucks, and 3 steering wheels(used with remote), and a rechargeable batteries and charger.

You need at least 2 controllers and 2 numchucks. More would be nice but to start that is what you need. You do not need any of the other "sport" or special controllers. They are just to make the game more "real" but are not necessary. If you get Wii Resort it comes with the Wii plus add on and if you get Mario Kart it comes with the steering wheel.

As for games the Wii Play and Wii Sports are good for the whole family. We also have Wii Resort which is fun. It really depends on your (and your kids) interest. On the back of each game it shows how many players and what controllers you need. This is in the upper right hand corner.

HTH.

The basic Wii system includes only one Wii-mote and nunchuck controller. You will need more. Up to 4 people can play at once, depending on which game you purchase. Also, check the video game box to see if it needs certain items, such as nunchuck, Wii balance board, guitar, etc.

You will need rechargable AA batteries.

The extra sports addons (tennis racket, golf club, etc.) are extraneous and not necessary for game play.

Good family games include Hasbro Game Night, Mario Kart, Mario Party 8, plus a seemingly infinite amount of Disney, Nickelodeon, and Universal tie-ins.

Also, if you have an old GameCube system, the games and controllers work with the Wii. You don't have motion play, but it's a start.

You "could" play the Wii right out of the box. In fact when we got ours last Christmas, other than a second remote and nunchuck, we mostly played Wii Sports, which comes with the system. We have two remotes and even for our family of 5, 2 is usually plenty. The only time that 4 or more of us has played at the same time is when we're bowling (on Wii Sports) and we can easily pass the remotes around between turns.

The sports kit add ons are more trouble than they're worth, IMO. We were gifted a set and rarely put them on the remotes.

Rechargable batteries are nice, but not necessary if you don't want to spend the extra $$.

Family games that we all enjoy are Wii Sports and Mario Kart. I'm looking at the new Wii Sports Resort for Christmas. We bought, but only liked for a couple of weeks, Toy Story Midway Mania. My suggestion would be to buy maybe one extra game and then a gift card to a game rental place so you can try some out. Its really a bummer to spend $40 or $50 on a game only to have it sitting on the shelf unplayed because it isn't fun.

There's a great thread here on the Dis all about the Wii and game reviews. Its long and full of info. Do a search and I'm sure it will come up. Have fun!:goodvibes

The wii play game comes with an extra remote. My son has Mario cart and really enjoys it. I just bought sports resort, it comes with a sesor thing that you put the remote into. I am buying a second one of those this week. We have carnival games and enjoy that.

My husband and son like the sports games, such as Madden and Tiger Woods.

The lego games are cool. There is a new Indiana Jones lego game that just came out. We have the first one as well as the Star Wars games.

Toys R Us has a good sale this week, buy one and get 20 off of another game.

The main accessory I highly recommend is a "charging station," which is a dock that recharges two Wiimotes at a time. It comes with two sets of rechargeable battery packs that you install in the Wiimotes. If your new Wii gets as much attention as ours did...you'll save a fortune on batteries with one of these charging stations.

The sports kit is totally unnecessary. The steering wheels for the Mario Kart game are fun, but also unnecessary (although I like it for that game).

Wii Sports Resort is a great family game, as is Mario Kart. Beware that most of the TV tie-in games are just OK - and before you buy any games, check out some video game sites and read their review sections. Enjoy!

Toys R us and game stop both run specials of buy 2 get 1 free video game frequently. Also if you buy used games just make sure you get the game play protection plan. This can save you tons of money just by buying used.

You can pretty much play the Wii right out the box like the others said. We too got an extra controller and nunchuk. Also rechargable batteries are a good choice.

Goood luck we love ours.

We did the Wii last year (I think it was last year) for Christmas. We got 4 Wiimotes, 4 steering wheels (Mario Kart came with 1 so we bought 3 more), the charging station and battery packs that were different colors. So we each have our own Wiimotes. :) Later I got us the Wii Fit and I love it!!!! :) We only have the 1 nunchuck, we don't have that many games that need them so 1 is fine for now.

I have a Wii also, and agree - I need to get that charging station! Seems like whenever the kids want to play it, they are running into the kitchen (where we keep the batteries) for more batteries. We have rechargeable batteries, but it takes a whole day with our little charger.

I would be a bit leery of remote knock offs. I actually don't know anything about them, but am leery of some things on ebay. I personally would get the nintendo ones.

When we got ours for Christmas, we got all 4 game controllers. The adults and kids all had so much fun playing the sports that came with the game! They were working up quite a sweat playing tennis. The bowling was great fun too!

My daughter (and I) always liked the Mario Party games. It is a board game with little "mini" games in it. It's nice and family friendly (like lots of the nintendo). She is 10 now, but was I think 8 when we got the Wii. I'd get 4 controllers if you can, as 4 can play.
