Worth it?

I don't play but my DH loves it as do the kids.

We only have Zelda and they are big fans of Zelda games in general hoping more games they like come out for Christmas.

My son thinks it's the best thing ever. He's always taking it with him and plays it with his friends. Just like in the commercials. And he plays it a lot at home as well. Mario Kart, Zelda and the MLB game are his faves. There is an NBA game that he's going to get as well.

I enjoy mine, but I am a huge Nintendo fan. That said, I find Zalda Breath of the Wild to be way overrated as I just don't like a lot of the changes that they made. But, hey, I've got ARMS and Splatoon 2 and the upcoming Mario game looks fantastic! It's definitely a good system if you like Nintendo style games, plus the portability factor is pretty cool. If you are thinking of getting one, don't wait until the holidays. They are going to be hard to find!

The problem with that is the return policy will be over before the holidays and if there's an issue you're screwed. Been there, done that. Was just fortunate that the manager I was dealing with had a heart. It's most likely going to be my kids birthday present, I just need to hold out until official holiday return/exchange policies kick in.

They have always been impossible to find where I live. We bought one at the release and then sold it on Ebay when the prices were high and made enough money to pay for one for our family. It took my DH about a month to find one, and that was only because he was on a business trip and happened upon them loading the only one they'd gotten in into the case.

Since then, we have never seen another one for sale in our area until last Thursday, when we saw 2 at Wal-Mart.

I've seen a few around lately and it seems like now is the time to buy. Most stores I go to only have one or two, but it seems pretty regular right now.

I only have Zelda, but it is probably my new favorite Zelda game of all time, which is saying a lot.

My 6-year-old wants one for Christmas, but I'm hesitant to spend that amount of money not knowing whether he will play it. We have a couple of gaming systems, but he only wants to play apps on the iPad.

And is it possible to buy a second handheld device for my younger son? He wants anything his big brother has...

The Switch itself is a handheld gaming system that has a dock to connect to the TV. You could buy two of them like you would with a DS or something similar. On the Switch however multiple players can play with one system, like with most home consoles. You can get extra controllers of a few different varieties. The main controllers slide off the sides of the screen and into a little grip to be used like a traditional controller. You can also turn them sideways and each player can use one. The nice thing is you can play multiplayer even in handheld mode, just like on the TV, but split-screen games will be pretty small (kids might not mind). So, they could share the main unit, though not all may games may support all of these play modes.

This is very helpful, thank you! I especially like to hear they both can play in handheld mode; that may be a better solution than buying two of them, at least to start.

Do you mean this?

No, I meant more like the gaming system itself -- similar to the DS. Brian pretty much answered my question. :goodvibes

So, of course, you can buy each of them a switch and multiplayer can be done using wireless between the units, though in many cases this would also require two copies of the same game. This would be just like having 2 DS units or something. Some games may allow for one copy to be shared, but many of them don't. Just another angle to consider.

Ok, got it. Thanks!
