nintendo ds newbie- HELP

Ok, so 2 of my DS's are getting nintendo ds for Christmas from my mom. Do we need batteries? Or are they ready to play?
They will be so upset if they can't use them right away.

They have to be charged. WE charged them up before we wrapped them so they could play right away!

Nope, no batteries needed. They are rechargable units, so you may want to charge them up before you wrap them. Have fun!!

How long do you need to charge them for? I think my mom already wrapped them.

I can't remember if the initial charge takes longer, but they can plug them in and play while they are charging.

This just reminded me that I forgot to charge my son's before I wrapped it! Good thing he can play it while its charging!

DD recieved hers from 'santa'. We had it set up with a game in mid play next to the half eatten cookies and milk as though santa had taken a break from delivering presents.

I think they need to charge for like 4 hours -
charge them first! The kids will want to play them immediately! We gave them as the last gift otherwise I know we would never have gotten around to opening anything else!

Remember though that if he's desperate...you can play while it's charging.

One quick reminder, watch the top screen hinge on the Nintendo DS Lite, usually on the right side it will form a crack.

We just got ours back from being repaired at Nintendo, and this is considered wear and tear damage and you have to pay for it.

I have seen it occur on all colors and pretty much since they were released.
Make sure you register yours with Nintendo so that if you do have to send it back they may give you a break on the cost.

The Nerf Armor seems to be a good idea it has its own hinge to help keep the stress of the Nintendo's hinge.
