NiMH batteries

I have a new digital camera. It came with NiMH batteries. What does that mean? Can I only use those batteries in it, or any type of rechargeable battery?

Kodak AA rechargeable.

You can use any brand AA rechargable. Many people like the Sanyo Eneloop because they hold a charge longer than a traditional NiMH. Do not use NiCd or alkaline rechargables, but they are almost impossible to find anyway.

You can use lithium AA batteries. You can't charge lithiums AA's though.

I carry a pack of lithiums in my bag as a backup in case I discharge all my other batteries. You can get somewhere around 600 shots out of them, but they are expensive. Also they have about a 10yr Shelf Life with a Low self-discharge rate of 0.5% per year at room temperature.

You can also use Alkaline batteries but you would be lucky to get about 60 shots out of them. Cameras have a big drain.

One characteristic of NiMH batteries is that they will not reach their full peak until after 3-5 charges.

Also consider getting a Poweres (MaHa) MH-C401FS charger.

I've had really good results with Powerizer batteries from www.BatterySpace.com.

I use their 2600mAh AAs in my Canon S3 and charge them with this charger. It's great for WDW trips; very compact, quick and it charges from 1-4 AAs (or AAAs) at a time; good for both toys and cameras!

I also have a set of Sanyo Eneloops that I leave in the camera when I'm not on vacation; they retain much of their charge so the camera's always ready to go if I *do* see something I want to photograph. I don't use the Eneloops on a WDW vacation because they don't have as much power as the 2600mAh's, though.

I use their 2600mAh AAs .

This is the key number to look for.

The larger the number the more pictures you will be able to take between charges.

Get the largest you can find. The highest I've seen is 2700mAh but there could be higher as things change daily.
