I need to get some advice and I thought who better to give it than the photography board on the Disboards,
I just purchased a Nikon d5000. I have the lens that came with it 18-55. I also have a 55-200 lens from my D40. I'm not crazy about that lens and will probably sell it with my D40. What would be another good lens to get? I love to take close up flower shots...would a macro lens be worthwhile or are there other lenses that would be good? I don't know that much about lenses.
Thank you in advance for any responses..I appreciate it

I personally ditched my kit lens (the 18-55) and skipped the 55-200. I have an 18-200mm and borrow a 10-18mm when I want to go real wide.

The 18-200 is "good" at most shots, not great at many. But I didn't like swapping lenses as often as I did when I had an 18-55 and a 70-300.

At some point I'd like to get the 35mm f/1.8

+1 for the 35mm lens.

I have the 50mm but find it awkward on a crop body. I always seem to have to keep backing up to get the shot I want. Not a big deal but sometimes the situation doesn't allow the room to back up. Also the 35 mm would be great on the dark rides. Just my 2 cents.....

I ended up getting a D90 back in late April with the 35 mm. My second lens was the 50mm. My latest lens was a Sigma 10-20. There's alot of great lenses out there but your decision needs to be made from your shooting style.
