Ok, I am definitely a newbee when it comes to photography. I have the Nikon D60 with kit lens. Looking to add on but that is another story.

Anyway, took it to DW in Nov (loved the shots I was able to get) and but was annoyed with the lens cap. It seems to keep popping off with the slightest touch/bump etc.

My previous camera was a Minolta Dimage Z2 (pns with manual controls) and the lens cap was attached to the camera via cord, so if it popped off at least it stayed with the camera.

Anything available for a Nikon SLR like this? Just afraid I am going to lose the cap some day, plus I don't want to scratch the lens.

Going back in 29 days and looking to resolve this issue before then.

Thx

I'm not sure of an answer to your question about something better, but I was having the same issue and realized later that it was because I hadn't put the lens cap back on correctly.

If you have the same kind (you kind of press in and it makes it fit into the lens and then when you let go it expends to stay put)...you may want to just make sure that it's not user error before looking for somethign else. I had been putting it in and it was kind of lopsided, hadn't locked into place completely and was popping off everytime I bumped it.

Now, I take the time to actually make sure it's on there and jiggle it a few times to make sure it's secure before I start walking again. Ever since then, I haven't had it fall off at all.

Good luck---I'm interested to see if there is a cap that screws on or something to ensure that it won't go anywhere.

They make lens cap holders... just a quick google search and you come up with a ton of leads.

I have certain lenses where the lens cap pops off really easily. It's annoying... I know. But not all my lenses are like that! Just certain ones!

I had the same problem as Ann when I first got my D40 with a kit lens. I just wasnt putting the cap on correctly. Once I sat down and looked at how it worked and what it "felt" like when I did get it on the right way I havent had any problems with it popping off. I also got into the habit when I am shooting with any lens I always put the cap in a left hand pocket. That way I am not always searching for where I put it when I took it off, I know its in one of my left pockets ... whether its jacket, sweater, pants or shorts.

You want something like this. Personally, I hate them. I don't want a lens cap dangling from my camera when I try to shoot. I just take my cap off and stick it in my pocket. I only put it back on when I put the camera away.

Plus sometimes they come unstuck from the lens cap - then you've wasted the money and may have permagoo stuck on the lens cap. Back in the day I had a superzoom with an attached lens cap...I couldn't tell you how often that accidentally swung into my pictures. Annoying.

My kit lens cap was horrible for staying on and finally as I was getting off of the doom buggy the last time I rode HM, it fell off and went under the conveyer. I bought a generic one when I got home from the local camera store and I like it better anyway. It seems to fit tighter and it has it's pinch release things in the middle of the cap instead of on the edges. I think that makes it harder to bump and have release. Could be wrong though.

I did try one of the things Mark linked to, I'm with him, I'd rather lose the cap than have it hanging off the lens. It would solve your problem though.
