I've been reading strong rumors that next week Nikon will be releasing a new entry level full frame body, the D600. Many sites are saying it could come in at $1500, which is half the cost of the D800 and the same as the crop sensor body D300s.

Some of the rumored specs:

24.7MP full frame sensor
Weight: 760g (850g with battery and memory cards), the D800 weights 900g
3.2" LCD with 921K dot with ambient sensor control
HDMI output
Video compression: H264/MPEG-4
Full HD with 30p, 25p, 24p, HD with 60p, 50p, 30p, 25p
Viewfinder coverage: 100%
The Nikon D600 will have built-in AF motor
The body most probably will be weather sealed
The D600 will not have built-in GPS
ISO range: 100-6400 (with Lo-1 ISO 50 and Hi-2 ISO 25,600)
39 AF points (with an option of 11 AF points), 9 cross-type AF points
AF face detection
Exposure compensation: ±5 EV (same as the D800)
The D600 will probably use the EN-EL15 rechargeable Li-ion battery
5 fps (same as the D700, the D800 has 4fps)
2 SD card slots with Eye-fi support
Build-in retouching images functionality
Built-in flash with sync speed of 1/250s
Two user settings: U1 and U2
Fn button
Auto DX crop mode
In-camera RAW editor
Built in time-lapse functionality
Build-in HDR
New external battery grip
Internal AF motor
The price of the D600 is rumored to be very low - maybe as low as $1500
Announcement before Photokina (September 2012)

VERY interesting. Though I'd have to buy a new battery grip too. GRRRR

If it's priced that reasonably, it will be VERY hard to resist upgrading. I've only bought FX lenses in the past couple of years with the thought of some day switching to full frame. Only a couple of DX lenses left in my bag that I would have to contend with.

I love the rumours of the D600 - if I didn't have quite a few sony lenses that I can't really afford to sell and repurchase for nikon, I'd be very very tempted to change systems for it (assuming the rumours prove true).

Naturally I'm also watching the Sony A99 rumours very closely - I'm looking forward to the rumoured announcement of that next weekend and desperately hoping I can afford the upgrade from my A55 :)

If this camera ships for < $1500, I'll jump ship from Canon in a NY minute.

FF for <$2k retail with those specs?... I gotta tell you, I'll believe it when I see it.

Yeah, seems to good to be true. But I've seen it on a few different sites. If it is at that price I will have to find a way to get me one. Money is VERY tight for us. But man oh man this would be nice.

Supposedly it will be announced on the 13th. One day after Apple supposedly announces the new iPhone which I also want to get.

I need to hit the lottery. :)

Oh man, I hadn't thought about that. We will no doubt be buying two new iPhones (dh's seems to be near death, or at least that's his story and he's sticking to it), and there's that rumored iPad mini that I'd love to have. Yowza.

But I don't see how I could pass up the chance to move to FX for that price. I've seen the rumors on a couple of reputable sites as well. Fingers are crossed that they're accurate!

Thats what Im waiting for, they put that out there, my Pentax gear wll hit the market if they dont put one up as well!

The specs, to me at least, would put it solidly as a pro-sumer model. Which is right where $1500 would put it price wise. It reads a lot like it's a camera that has a full frame sensor just to have a full frame sensor and caters to those who feel like they must have that feature but can't swing a pro model. Time will tell. If it is a reality I'd be very interested in playing with it to see what it can do.

That would also be one day after the Sony a99 is apparently going to be announced.

(nevermind - re-read inital post and caught the last sentence about Photokina. :))

The D600 sounds pretty nice. My nephew's been trying to decide on something to buy for months - maybe that will be appealing and he can stop shopping! lol
