My DS has a Nikon D60. We were visiting him over Thanksgiving in San Deigo. We were touring all over the area as we are all new to CA. Anyway, I noticed that every time he went to take a pic of anything, he would take the cap off the lens and then put it in his pocket or hold it in his hand.

I asked him if he had a strap for his lens cap to keep it attached to the camera when he is taking pics. He said no, but would love to get one if possible.

With all my recent Xmas shopping I have inquired at different stores and no one seems to know if there is a strap for the lens. :confused3

Does anyone know where I could get a strap to keep his lens cap attached to his camera?

TIA :goodvibes

Try B+H Photo or Adorama Photo on-line pretty sure they have what you are looking for.You will need to know what size the lens cap is to get the right size

Just looked this up at B+H their number is B+H#SICK2 don't know if this what you are looking for hope this helps

The above is a link to one site so you know what you are looking for and the approximate price. Retail Camera stores probably would have this and perhaps charge more for it.

I hope that helps,

Wow, thanks Icemann and Marlton Mom!! I will get the lens size from DS and then check that website!!! :thumbsup2

BTW, MM, We lived in Cherry Hill, NJ for one year; 1985-1986 and I had my second DS in Garden State Community Hospital in Marlton, NJ. That was a long time ago. We moved to New England lived there for 22yrs and just moved to CA. So funny seeing your username and then when I glanced at your location, it brought back so many memories from so long ago. DS will be 24yo on 12/30!!!!! :goodvibes

Garden State Hospital is literally less than a mile from my home. I am the next major intersection south of the hospital from Rt.73. I worked in the medical building right across from the hospital from 1985 to 1986.

My what a "Small World" it really is!!!

I bought mine on Ebay for next to nothing!

I keep a UV filter on all my lenses for protection, and while out shooting, once I take the cap off, it stays off. That way the camera is always ready to go. I know it doesn't take long to take off a lens cap, but you can miss shots if your camera is not instantly ready to go. Just something to think about.

Off topic for this thread but just thought I would add what an awesome day for a birthday :rotfl: ... just happens to be mine also but I have had a few more than your DS:rotfl2: It'll be 52 for me

Well it is not more for protection that I suggest he get the strap, it is more because he may lose the cap altogether.

:dance3: It has always been a tough day for a birthday, just 5 days after Christmas, but DS loves the date just the same!!! :dance3: DH & I always do it up HUGE for him. Countless times to WDW or DL to celebrate. (The kiddos were always on Christmas vacation from school or college so that was an easy vacation to plan.) And for his 21st we took him to Paris, France!!! :woohoo: It will be VEGAS this year!!! :woohoo:

I hate those straps. After a few days of using a cap strap, I took it off. It kept swinging around while I was trying to take a picture and I always had to loop it around a finger while taking a picture. It's more trouble than its worth. If he loses a cap, you can get replacements on ebay for cheap. I have enough things swinging around my neck to worry about an additional little cap swinging and banging against my camera.

Hmmm...well you make an interesting point, Dizzy. ::yes::

You needn't worry about the lens size. The straps just stick onto the front of any lens cap. I used them years ago and found them extremely annoying, especially when shooting downward becaues the cap would swing into the picture.

I'm with aalan in not using lens caps most of the day. I put a cap on a lens when I put it back into my bag (and sometimes not even then). I differ, though, in that I never use a UV filter. That's a religious decision and it is against my faith. I use a lens hood instead.

Oh, real good point, Mark!

These might be better presents instead of a cap strap.

A Giotto Rocket blower is useful for blowing dust off lenses

A nice lens cleaning cloth

Or a nice UV filter for the lens. You'll have to find the lense size first though. Just some suggestions :)

Wow, Dizzy, these look like great stocking stuffer ideas!! :thumbsup2 I know he has "lens cleaning cloths"....but that rocket air blower looks very interesting.

DS will wonder how I came up with such good ideas for his camera.....but I will tell him the DIS Photography Board!!! :thumbsup2
