At the risk of being silly, I figured I would cover the bases. Is there a switch for manual focusing on your lens that might have gotten switched. I don't know if your lens is this one. But there is the switch for manual or auto focusing you can see in the pic labeled A and M on the bottom left of the photo.

Other than that, I'm not sure since I'm not too familiar with the Nikon cameras, myself owning Canons.

That was actually the first thing I did check... then I switched it to M and then back to A in case in needed to be reset or something... Seems it wasn't the case. Thanks though!!!

I guess it probably also does it with both lenses too. If that's the case, I guess it would have something to do with the camera. And I guess it makes no attempt at focusing. The only other thing I can think of to make sure that it's not the camera's settings is see if there is a setting to restore all the settings to default and see if that fixes it. If not, then I would probably take it somewhere to be looked at.

According to the EXIF info in the image you posted, the camera is set to manual focus. Plus at 1/125 sec exposure and 90mm zoom, it shouldn't be blurry from camera shake (unless you are really shakey)

You can check to see if the lens is focusing by watching or listening to it. Just point the camer at something and watch the lens. Also look for the focus confirmation light in the viewfinder.

Is the lens securely attached? Which lens?

I used irfanview. It's a free viewer available at www.irfanview.com

Make sure to get the JPEG rotation plug-ins.

When you are viewing an image, hit the "I" key and you'll be able to see the EXIF data (by clicking on the EXIF button)

If you are using windows XP you can view most of the shot info. Right-click the file/photo>properties>summary>advanced

some editing programs remove the info during processing.

In the case of an embedded picture, as in this post, drag the photo to your desktop and then rightclick, etc.... windows will ask if you want to download the file.

There is also a switch on the Camera as well. Its in the front of the camera on the left side if your looking through the view finder, on the right if your looking at the front. If the exif data is showing Manual focus and you checked the lens, then you might also want to check the switch on the camera itself.

Did a bit of shopping today and seem to have swung towards the D70S - C/W 18-70 and 55-200 Lenses for $1200. What do you think of this as a price?

I checked out the charger - it will be OK.

The warranty is for the US only - I can get a worldwide warranty for $150 - is this worth it?

As far as I know Nikon doesn't sell a separate world-wide warranty. If it is legit, then it's a good thing and I'd take it, but to my knowledge, it's a scam (at least based on the information I gathered from Nikon USA and Nikon Canada)

I live in Belfast and have recently purchased the D50 from Jessops. Paid £424 for the body, nikon 18 - 50 mm lens and Nikon bag. I also added the Sigma 70 - 300 mm lens for £115 and I am very pleased with the results! PM me if you would like to see some pics! I's a great camera!

My DS (10months) pulled my Nikon D50 with 18 - 55mm lens attached off the kitchen table onto the tiled floor - it was my fault as I left the strap hanging. The battery door came off and was easily attached and the camera is working but I can hear a very slight rattle inside - any ideas? Should I take it to my local store to be checked?

I know mine always makes a quiet rattle, like a very small be-be. Think it is somthing to do with how pictures are oriented automatically. Does it still take pictures? I think Nikon will chage you at least $150 to look at it. Not sure about a camera store.

Yes the rattle maybe the orientation sensor. Dslrs even those with plastic bodies are built pretty tough.

The noise is very slight like a very very very small bead! The camera is taking pictures perfectly! The noise could have been there before - just never rattled the camera to check before!

That is what mine sounds like. Seems to me it is ok, and I guess if it starts acting up you know why

I dropped my camera at disney last week Fortunately it only damaged the lens (nikkor 18-55) but unfortunately I decided to leave my other lens home so I didn't have as much to carry (nikkor 55-200). I ended up having to buy disposables for the rest of the trip. Of course, I dropped it on our first day! Imagine all the picture opportunities I missed! Anyway, I took it to the shop and they basically said it's not worth fixing because I could replace it for about the same cost as fixing it. I've always hated carrying two lenses and would love to use this as an opportunity to get a new lens. I was thinking of getting an 18-200 instead. Where can I get the best deal? What brand? I am seeing that the Nikon lens is $999 and I can get a Tameron or Sigma for around $400 after shipping, etc. What do you guys reccommend? I want something that works well and is as small and light as possible. Where can get the best price? What can I do with my 55-200 lens? If I get a new one, I won't need that one, is it worth trying to sell? Thanks for the help!!!!

Personally I wouldn't buy a lens with that much range... you will not have good top or bottom range..... I am not sure, but I also believe that the apeture on the big range zooms is a pretty large number, so you won't have much that you can do with low apeture pictures be it for light or design.

There is no such thing as a do it all lens, which is why they make so many... I got the 18-125 as my walk around lens... I could have chosen the 18-200 but the quality of the pictures from the shorter one was superior.
