Nikon coolpix or Panasonic Lumix

I'm looking for a new point and shoot camera. Basically I want something with more zoom (I have 3x right now) and more settings for different shots, like night time, or action etc. I have a Canon Elph right now that is about 7 years old so I think it's time for an upgrade. I read that Nikon isn't as good with the point and shoot as they are regular cameras. Anyone have any of these cameras or maybe another camera I should be looking at. I do like my Canon as well. Is there a Canon that fits what I am looking for?

Of the two, the lumix is the better camera, most reviews agree.

Canon came out with a new mega-zoom camera just recently. You may want to look at that too (www.usa.canon.com)
