Terry, Susie and I all ran the Nike Women's Half Marathon in San Francisco last year. It was such a popular race that it sold out in 3 days! Of course getting a finisher's necklace from Tiffany's is a pretty good reason to enter....

If anyone is interested in racing it this year, entry is by lottery only. Enter between March 4th and the 18th at Active.com.

I won't be running this year, but it definitely is a great race to do - very scenic with some...er...challenging hills shall we say?

All the details are here:

http://insidenikerunning.nike.com/2008/02/21/2008-nike-women’s-marathon-registration/

There is a half and a full option.

Good luck!

Wow, Leana! Thanks for the info. I plan on doing the half again this year. Well, maybe....if I'm chosen. I'm just wondering why I didn't receive an email about this.

For those of you who are interested, you get the same necklace no matter what race you do - half or full. I'm no fool, I'll be doing the half - less work, same pay.....that is, IF I'M CHOSEN.

It really is a great race! Very scenic. Don't mind the hills. What goes up, must come down. That's part of the charm of the race. :teeth:

Susie, I didn't get an e-mail either. I just happened to see a discussion link on Nike.com when I was logging into my training journal online that led me to the page I posted. You would think they would have put something up on their website, eh?

Good luck in the lottery! My mom is hoping to enter too.

My brother, DH, and I are entering the lottery together. It really is an amazing, inspiring race to do!

I just entered the lottery. We'll see what happens. ;) Oh, I did finally get an email - yesterday.

Leanna & Susie,

I got the e-mail, too. however I won't be doing the race this year. I'm going to do a 1/2 close to home in Oct. (save a little $$) and then I hope to do the San Antonio 1/2 in Nov.

BTW, my niece who ran the Nike with me last year (well, not really WITH me -she's much faster) is training for her 1st full. She's doing the RnR San Diego in June.

Susie - good luck in the lottery!:wizard:

Terri

I can't remember, but did people that participated in the virtual Nike+ half also get the necklace?

I don't believe so. If memory serves me correctly, I think they got a keychain....which would be nice.

Terri - yes, please try to do the RnR San Antonio. There's going to be several WISHers there. :cheer2:

Oh, I'm so disappointed. I didn't get in. DARN! I even had my hotel reservations. DARN! There were 30,000 that signed up for it and 20,000 accepted. That means I had 2 out of 3 chances of getting in! Bummer! :(

Susie, I'm cringing as I write, but DH, my brother, and I got in. So sorry you didn't! I was really surprised--and I don't have hotel reservations yet.

Leslie - That's great! I'm glad you got in....honestly. :teeth:

Have you done it before? If not, you'll love it! It really is a great race. I hope I get a chance to do it again sometime.

Susie - so sorry you didn't make it in! I didn't enter this year, but I would really like to go back and do this again one year. Me thinks I'll need a back up plan if they keep up with the lottery though.

Leslie - You'll have a great time!! If I have a piece of advice - do your hill work diligently. A lot of people moaned and groaned when the hills hit, but if you do your homework it helps a lot! Also, when you are looking for a hotel try to stay as close to Union Square as you can, but stay away from any hotels near the Tenderloin District. I highly recommend Trip Advisor to help you suss out a good hotel as they can be really hit and miss around there. And I recommend booking your hotel as soon as possible.

I know many of you ladies didn't get in through the lottery :sad2: but there is another option :thumbsup2 ! If you register through Team In Training, you will have a GUARANTEED spot in the race, and will have the opportunity to train for the big day with expert coaches provided by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Go to the Team In Training website to find out more, and I hope to see you in October!

I would like to do that sometime; however, we don't have a TnT chapter in my state. Bummer! I know I could do a virtual TnT but it's just not the same. If I don't get in next year, I may consider it. Thanks for the notice, though.

FYI, I did the Nike Women's half virutally with Nike+ and the Tiffany keychain wasn't very cool. BUT, it WAS very cool to be able to get up and go to my local rails to trails with my pal Marie and do my half on our own schedule! :thumbsup2

Leslie,

Last year I found a deal on expedia (air & hotel) for the Grand Hyatt at Union Square. It was great. We were one block from the start area and Expo and across the street from Niketown. My niece and I stayed 4 nights at the Grand Hyatt and had our airfare (from PA) for a total of just under $1400. When I checked the hotel site, it would have cost us over $1000 just for the room, so the Expedia package made sense for us.

Terri

ETA: I noticed you were from Calif. Just because I was curious, I looked on Expedia and the Grand Hyatt was $200/night Fri-Sun. nights. You may find something cheaper, but the location can't be beat!

Awesome! I'll check Expedia tomorrow. Thanks!

I just joined the WISH board and wanted to say Hi.

I got picked from the lottery to run the 1/2 marathon (the hard part) If you have any questions, I am from the SF Bay Area and I would be happy to answer any of your questions regarding the run or locations in SF. This will be the 4th year I am running the Nike Womens 1/2 and it is one of my favorite runs...besides WDW and DL...of course!
