Can anyone tell me when registration opens for this? I've been searching all over and can't find anything official from Nike.

They said the end of October. No definitive date. I am sure that they will send out messages to Nike+ members and previous Nike Women's Participants beforehand. It will be a lottery like the San Francisco one, only guaranteed entries are with charity, I think Team in Training actually. :)

They're using facebook as their official website. You can go to facebook.com/NWM26.2 and click the logo for the DC race to sign up to receive notification when registration opens.

I've heard in the past that registering as a team can increase your chances. Anyone have a team going that I can join?

That team thing is only with the Nike Women's San Francisco, and your chances of all getting are better when at least one person in your group is signing up for the Marathon. If the majority of them are signing up for the Marathon, your chances are nearly guaranteed. At least that is how it was explained to me by someone who works with the race.

As far as DC, the only people that seem to know anything right now are TNT, so if you want an entry and can raise the minimum amount, go with it. All we have is that e-mail sign-up for alerts and I don't know about anyone else, but I have received zero information....which leads me to believe that we will receive a notification the moment it opens and anyone attached to Facebook or their e-mail will be the first to get into the lottery. But, until that day comes, I am not sure if the team option is going to be there or if it is purely individual. Does anyone know why they created the team option anyway? Just as a way to curb the complaints about the lottery and get more people to sign up for the Marathon and not the Half Marathon? :confused3

I'm thinking about doing this race with TnT. For my local chapter the fundraising is (if I'm remembering properly--don't have my notes with me) $2,900 without a flight and $3,400 with a flight. As mentioned, TnT has guaranteed entries for this race.

I have a meeting with TnT about this race in 3 weeks. If the minimum is $2900 I dont know if I will be able to run with them. I just dont have the time for that kind of fundraising. I went to an evant last night for a friend doing the NYC marathon with TnT. He has to pay $4000! :scared1: The event last night raised $750, plus whatever he paid to rent the space. And the raffle prizes he had weren't cheap either. I think the fundraising makes me more nervous than the race! :rolleyes1

I definitely agree with you! I know I can run the distance, but raising that much money is intimidating. The TnT person I meet with made it seem very doable mentioning that before she went to work at LLS she raised the money for the Paris Marathon in her first year out of college. But I'm hoping to talk to some actual participants (instead of a LLS employee) to get their experiences.

My friend said he would probably have to put in about $2k of his own money to run the NYC Marathon. He still has 2 weeks though, so maybe he will be able to raise some more.

Good luck to your friend! I'm ok with paying a bit of the fundraising total since if I am going on my own I would have to pay, but am not ok with the full amount. I know that that there is a trial period before you are required to commit to the fundraising total so that you can back out and be off the hook.

The thing with me and the DC race, is that I live in DC (well, just outside it), so there is no expense, minus the regular race entrance fee. I am really interested to find out what they are requiring for DC locals. Guess I will find out in a few weeks.

I'm currently training for a half as a fundraiser. Thankfully, it's not required. I just get certain race incentives for reaching certain levels. It's not going well so there is no way I would sign up for mandatory fundraising. Hopefully I can get in with the lottery.

Wow, TNT is getting really expensive to run with. I had no idea those were the minimums for those races! I know it is for a good cause, and I ran with them this year for a local race and it was reasonable, but the fundraising minimums for the larger races are a bit high. I guess you can command that when people just want an entry and a race isn't easy to get into without running with a charity.

It is a lot of pressure, but I hope everything works out!

Here, it's 2800. Luckily I do a lot of fundraisers for LLS at school, and some of that can be applied to my minimum. My kids raised $1500 last week alone! My principal is also all for it. It not only gets the kids involved in a charity, but he thinks it's good for them to see teachers being active and healthy.

$2,800 may be correct, I have notes from my meetings with LLS, but just not with me. It might be less for areas closer to DC, because for local races around here (Raleigh/Durham) it is significantly lower.
