I posted this on the regular WISH board, too, but I'm just wondering if anybody else is using the Nike+ gadget that hooks into your iPod nano. It would be fun to set up a challenge on the Nike website (maybe then I will remember better how to use it).

Let me know what you think of it, too!

Ashley-I got the Nike+ system about a month ago, and I love it!! I love that it tells you when you have reached certain distances, and how much you have left. It has worked great for me! Although, i am changing to a NON-Nike + shoe to run. I found a lacelid clip that holds the chip on top of your shoe. It is supposed to still work and be just as accurate. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

I haven't really looked at the website much, except to track my own workouts. I didn't know you could set up challenges.....I would do that if it is possible, sounds like a good motivational tool to get me to workout!

You CAN set up challenges -- what goals are you working for? Marathon in Jan., '08 it looks like...

Where did you get the clip? I would like to use it for shoes other than my Nikes, as I like to keep my new shoes for indoors and REALLY nice days. (I'm kind of anal, I guess...)

Let me know!

Did you see that you can add Nike+ widgets to your websites?

Let's see if it will work in a post:

Nope.

You can see it at www.blogthevote.com/blueroses (my blog).

Anyway. I'm up for a challenge. A friendly one. Not like this 1000 miles in 2007 one I signed up for where some of the people seem to think it's a race to get 1000 miles for anyone else.

Ashley-I got the piece for your shoes at www.lacelid.com...i just ordered some today, so I haven't used it yet, but I have heard from others that they work. I will let you know when I get them how they work.

Right now I am training for a half marathon in april, and then hopefully another in late august/early september, and then I am registered for the WDW full in January. So, I have a full year ahead.

I would be up for some sort of challenge if anybody would like to do it.

let me know!

I've had mine for a few months now and love it. I also use the Nike+ website just to track my own personal workouts but it would be fun to do a challenge with other DISers.

For those asking about using a non-Nike shoe, yes, it can be done. The sensor in the shoe is nothing more than an accelerometer. Marware's got this nice looking pouch that costs $10 and can be used in any shoe. Here's a link to it: http://www.marware.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/Marware.woa/1/wa/selectedCategory?catalogCatID=226

It's been awhile since I checked this thread, and now I know I need to go shopping! That's awesome!

Anyway, let's talk some goals and figure out what a good challenge would be. Then, if you want to PM me your email addresses, we can set something up.

I think challenges can either have to do with number of miles, times/pace, or number of runs completed.

Let me know what you think would help you most!

So, I was a little bit wrong...

The challenge options are:

Distance race -- first person to complete ___ miles wins.

Most miles -- whoever completes most miles in ____ days wins.

Fastest time -- whoever has the fastest (5k) time by ____ wins.

Distance goal -- we all commit to running ___ miles by ____.

I'm guessing the distance goal would work best. We aren't working to kick each other's butts, just to get better as a group, right? What would be a good number for a distance goal? I currently run about 16-20 miles per week, but that number is going to continue increasing throughout the spring.

Thanks, all!

I know. I wish they would make the challenges more friendly.
What is everyone training for? I too am looking for around 20 miles/week, but am also increasing mileage in training for the Minnie then the Goofy.
My Nike user name is the same as my DIS name, blueroses.

DH is about to buy the kit w/o the shoe. I guess he'll need to order the shoe holders, too. (Saw the links, thanks!) Does he also have to have the armband Nike's website shows or does the kit come with one? Will it still work if it is in his pocket?

Also (Sorry for the questions!) can I use his Nike Plus? Does the program allow for us to set up for two different people?

Thanks!

lenshanem-You don't need any armband. I hold my ipod in my hand while I am running, but I imagine you can put it in your pocket and it will work fine. I have an armband that goes with my ipod, but i can't use it with my Nike+ system because it doesn't have an opening in the bottom for the transmitter, so I just hold my ipod.

Not sure about using the system with two people, I haven't tried it.

As for the challenges, I would be up for a distance challenge as well, I am not going as far as some of you, only about 14-16 miles per week. But I would still participate as it can be used as motivation for me. And, I will be increasing my mileage as I start my formal training for my half marathon in April.

id like to join in if someone is creating a group. my id on nike is under
kim10110 thank you.

Danny, thanks for the link. I've been wanting to do the Nike+ but didn't want to shell out another $85-$110 right now for new running shoes after I just got some.

I think I'll have to get the arm band/pocket combo from mareware... Not bad.

Thanks again!
