Hi all,

I was thinking of buying a pair for my DS12. He plays a lot of sport 12hours per week, rugby, cross country, skiing and cricket and he's been complaining of sore ankles. For all his sports he wears the appropriate shoes which have all the new "technology" however while looking for a new pair of shoes for his cross country I found this article:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/mos...-Are-expensive-running-shoes-waste-money.html

As he can't run round barefoot at the moment, I thought the Nike Free may help build up his ankle muscles. Anyone have any experiences with these shoes or can recommend another type of similar shoe?

TIA

Trainers, like most other things, are all about advertising and status. Most professional athletes didn't start out with gobs of money so they wore the cheapest trainers they could find, just like anyone else on a budget. Michael Jordan didn't learn to play basketball wearing Air Jordans he had cheapo Converse All stars and look how he turned out.

Its amazing how many people I see playing sport or exercising in the wrong type of footwear. Lots of kids wear the fashion trainers to do sport but they do not provide the adequate support needed resulting in many injuries.

I'm not saying they have to have the most expensive shoe just the appropriate.

It sounds like your son maybe suffering from an overuse injury, common in people still growing. It maybe that your son is not allowing much rest for his muscles. My advice would be to look up ankle strengthening exercises on the internet & go about it that way. No trainer is going to strengthen the muscles on there own:goodvibes

Not sure if you have one near wear you live but some specialist sports shops have a treadmill for people to have their gait analysed & have the orthotics made to put in the shoe, this too helps people reduce soreness as they will then be walking properly
