I know its been awfully hot during the day at Disneyland, but just wondering what its like when the sun goes down. Does it just make the weather more pleasant with cooler temps or should we plan on having a sweatshirt and/or long pants available if needed? We'll be there May 18-23.

Thanks!!

There is a cooling trend right now. I would be well perpared with long pants and light jacket/sweatshirts. If the weather gets back to "normal" then you will need them in the evening.

Story from about 10 years ago:

I was at Disneyland on a nice, warm day. I left my jacket at the hotel because I didn't want to carry it around the park all day, and besides it was way too warm for a jacket.

Until the sun went down.

Now coming from the prairies I'm used to a nice, gradual sunset and cooling. Not in CA. The sun was there, and then before I knew it, it had set. I swear you could go into a ride with the sun shining, come out and it would have set. And while the day was really, really warm the evening was very cool.

I, of course, was too stubborn to go back to the hotel for the jacket. Instead I finally decided to buy a really nice fleecy sweatshirt that I'd had my eye on for a few days. It was $55 and I'd been debating about it. I really wanted it, and being so cool was just the impetus needed.

Oddly enough I did the same thing a few years earlier ;)

I still have both sweatshirts.

So forgetting to take one to the park can have advantages!

I never go to DL w/o a sweatshirt if I'm planning to be there after dark. The ocean breeze really cools things off and it can go from 85 to 70 and below real fast. I'm usually fine with shorts so long as I have the sweatshirt, but if you're the type to be cold all the time, then stash a pair of long pants in a locker for evening. The temperature extremes in DCA are even greater than DL.

Very true!!! Especially if you ride the Sun Wheel at sunset or right after...and you have some breeze going...forget about it!!!! You better be dressed for the snow!!! (Can you tell I had a bad experience with this once?)

I have to agree that the evenings get really cool. Unless it is August:rolleyes:
Plan on having access to a sweatshirt and if you are wearing sandals put on tennis shoes. It is not like Florida where it stays warm late. The previous poster is correct that once that sun sets, it is chilly here. Have a wonderful time.:)

What is considered chilly, temperature wise? I need to buy clothes for our trip (badly). I've been focusing on finding shorts and tees. Naturally, being a Canadian prairie girl, I have the long pants and sweaters... just wondering how many I really need to worry about. Our youngest might need some pants.

We'll be there in early July, btw.

Chilly for DL in the evenings (summerish) means definitely not shorts and t-shirt weather. Especially if you've been out during the day. The temperature contrast between day/evening and really very dramatic.

Sweatshirts and long pants are ideal for the evenings. I recommend taking them with you when you go to the park and renting a locker. I think they're in the $5 range for the whole day, and you can come/go from the locker during the day (you're given a combination for it). Throw the stuff in the locker and off you go. Also handy for putting purchases into throughout the day.

Sounds good to me! Warm to hot during the day, cools off at night.

Now I can finish shopping - thanks!
