Having had yet another sleepless night after my October trip to Riple's Belive It Or Not Museum, I wondered if anyone else had the same problem as me, and has been haunted by the mermaid at Ripley's. :D

For those of you who don't know , the mermaid was made several centuries ago in China, out of a fish and a shaved monkey. It is, officialy the scariest thing ever.

So, has anyone else seen this mermaid, and been seriously disturbed, or am I just a unique case? :(

I haven't seen it, but doesn't sound very... umm... appealing... ::shudder::

Ive been to the one in San Antonio but I didnt see the mermiad thing...some of those things in there are weird!

I can't say it's ever given me nightmares, but that thing definitely is creepy!

What in the world?!?!? That is a freaky picture! I haven't seen the monkey mermaid thing either but I have been freaked out over things that people thought were silly before! So don't worry. One of my friends couldn't sleep after seeing Planet of the Apes!

::Cue lots of high pitched screaming::

That's even worse than the Ripley's one. OMG, its soooo horrible.

I think that the story behind that mermaid (and don't quote me on this, I don't remember all the facts exactly), was that PT Barnum bought it in China, and used it in his freak show, saying it was a real mermaid. He only confessed that it was a fake on his death bed. Robert Ripley got his own one, which is now in the Orlando museum. I think there's only about 4 left in the world.

Hehe, I really loved the museum though, there was some really reaky stuff in there.
