Okay, so i know some of you are going to think I need serious help! I will be arriving at WDW in 4 days with a friend of mine who has never been to WDW. I want everything to be perfect. I requested (I know not gauranteed) a specific room view. I woke up last night at 3:00 AM because I had a dream/nightmare that I walked up to the desk at BC, and the same guy who checked me in the last 2 trips was there and told me that I didn't get the view that I wanted. I woke up really upset and couldn't go back to sleep. Okay, so is there any Shrinks out there that can help me? I know a lot of you think it is ridiculous to worry about room view and or location and I should just be happy I am at WDW, but it is really important to me! Can these next 4 days go by any quicker?

Not to rain on your parade but, if you truly expect it to be "Perfect" you might be disappointed. Granted it depends on your view of what perfect is. Some are more demanding than others.
Every time I have gone to stay at one of the DVC properties it was AWESOME. That said, there is always room for improvememt at the DVC resorts and since they are run by people, and by and large people are NOT perfect, than there is a chance you could be let down.
My advice is to enjoy yourself, expect more from the DVC resorts, but don't expect them to be perfect.

Try to relax. You are setting yourself up for disappointment. Look for the magic elsewhere, away from a room view. There is so much more to enjoy. PD for a great trip.

Plan on getting the room that looks at the biggest dumpster in WDW. Convince yourself and your friend of it. Then, when you get a room better than the dumpster room, you won't be disappointed. You will be happy.

just remember, you have been there several times and your friend has not, well if you dont get what you want, dont fuss over it, just go on and have a magical time, and dont say anything or make a big deal about it, otherwise it wont be magical for your friend that has not been to wdw. your first time is always magical no matter where or what kind of room you have, and by making it a big deal, your friend may feel uncomfortbly. if you dont get the room request just go to beaches and cream and split their kitchen sink icecream, you will feel much better!
go and have a magical time !:)

Terry,

I know the feeling! The frist time we went "home" to the BCVs we were bringing along out OKW friends. I wanted everything PERFECT in the 2 bedroom. Our room was down near the parking lot and the view left a bit to be desired, but we ended up spending time on the couch just chatting and sharing such great memories, that it didn't matter that we didn't have a good view.

Speaking of Perfect.... We took our frist trip home in July, right after they opened the BCVS. Our OKW friend was one of those guys that would always tease us with, "my home resort is better than your home resort". Well, as it turned out, he went to turn on the lights in his bedroom and there were NO lightbulbs in any of the fixtures. The closet door knob fell off in his hand, the lock in the bathroom didn't work and the DVD player was hooked up wrong. A call to the front desk fixed all these problems quickly, but we took quite a ribbing about how HIS OKW resort at least gives HIM lightbulbs!

We still laugh about that trip and realized it's the company that makes the trip, not the room! We are planning another trip with this group in Aug. BCVs, Vero and OKW!!!!!

Enjoy your trip and be sure to tell us about it when you return! And bring back some warm weather here to MI!

1) I try to teach people "excellence" and not "perfection".
2) It's easy to have an "excellent" adventure.
3) It is REALLY hard to have a "perfect" time.
4) I have the same philosophy in business.

(Similar to living your life as an exclamation vs an explanation.)

BCV does not have decent room views, we all knew that when we purchased. Some of the room views are fine. Odds are you will not get the room view you specifically requested. If you want a room view you need to stay at BWV with a preferred view.

IMHO, your setting your expectations too high. Room views are not an advantage BCV has.

Don't let this room view thing get in the way of what you're REALLY going to WDW for -- some magic and a good time.

Like everyone else, I would love to always have a great view, but it just can't happen for everyone, all the time!

We've been members for 10 years and I can only recall one time that we were disappointed with our view. We got one of the famous dumpster views at BWV. I cannot understand how they can call THAT a preferred view, so I asked them to either give us another room, or charge us only the standard view rate. They cannot adjust the point structure for a room (I knew that, but figured I'd throw that in to give me a better chance of them "finding" a room for us), so we got moved to a better location.

The DVC experience is so fantastic, that I'm sure your friends will be impressed no matter what view you get!
;)

Thanks everyone for all your words of encouragement and of reality. I do realize that life is not perfect and a room view will not make a vacation perfect. As far as room views at BCV, I did really enjoy the view of spaceship earth and illuminations I had on my last visit, it was about as close to perfect as I could have asked for.

As I mentioned, I do just want to make this vacation as magical as I can for my friend, so I have been stressing out over all aspects of the vacation, including the view of the room since we plan on sitting on the balcony and reading a book for part of our vacation. There have been so many people that have said to my friend "why would you and another friend go on a vacation to WDW without kids?" As some of you may know this is a girls weekend trip without our kids, first time in 7 years. I think I feel as if I need to prove to my friend that WDW is going to be a great vacation without kids because all of the people that have said this to her.

wdwstar.... thanks for the suggestion. If I receive a view that I am not happy with I probably would have been in a bad mood which would then put a damper on our vacation. This is not the way I want to start out our vacation. If this happens now at least I will just say oh well, lets go read our books on the beach instead! Oh, and then go to Beaches and Creme. We both plan on skiping our diets during this trip!

Thanks again everyone! I am trying to relax and let the magic just happen, really!

I've done what we call the "ladies only weekend" 3 times and had a blast. Most of the ladies have kids and enjoyed a kid free trip for once. That's how I ended up joining DVC, I was invited by a DVC member friend to go to the first one staying in a 2 bedroom at OKW. Fell in love with it! That trip there were about 10 or 15 women who met in an AOL DVC chat room. Went last month and stayed at POFQ, there were 4 of us. We even did the Cinderella Breakfast!

Have a great time!:D

Terry,

Just wanted to wish you a your friend a magical trip. Isn't it funny what our subconscious thoughts reveal? You are very familiar with the layout of BCV so you will be able to tell at registration if the view will be ok. If you're not happy, you can ask if there is anything else available. If there isn't, I second the thought about focusing on having a good time with your friend. Since she has never been to a Disney resort before, she will probably be enchanted with it unless you act like something terrible has happened. I learned in November to give other views a chance. We had requested a pool view and ended up with a view of the woods, Epcot and BCV and we loved it!!!!

Let me know how your trip goes and what things your friend liked the best as my best friend from childhood (who lives in Arkansas now) is going with me in June. She has never stayed at Disney but has visited MK once and MGM once. My 18 year old daughter and her two best friends will be going also to celebrate their high school graduation but I'm sure my friend and I will have plenty of time by ourselves.

RELAX AND ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!

Donna

Terry,

Let yourself off the hook. WDW will provide a wonderful vacation. You've booked the vacation so now just let it go it will be fine unless you allow yourself to worry about it. You're going to WDW, if something isn't perfect there are an infinite number of things happening there simultaneously that are magical. Your friend will know that. Not to worry.

Don't forget, SAB on Tues May 20 after lunch...LOL
