I’ve tried to watch this before and decided to give it another go tonight. But it’s really not doing it for me. I like dark things in their place: Halloween; Phantom of the Opera; Haunting of Hill House...
But the parks are full of merch from this movie and it just feels weird and not Disney to me!! Thoughts?...

I certainly don't think it's "Not Disney" - I mean if it's not Disney then the Haunted Mansion isn't either, or Pirates of the Caribbean, or any number of macabre, somewhat sppoky content coing back to the adaptation of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow in The Adventures of Icabod and Mister Toad. It has it's place. I get that it's a bit of a weird movie for some and not everyone will cotton to that. For me, I don't even like the movie as much as I just like the music from it. I love Danny Elfman though so I find myself listening to the soundtrack a lot during ht eHalloween to Christmas window.

Please remember Walt created Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean and Sleepy Hollow :rolleyes1

Of course I know that. The assertion seemed to be that Nightmare Before Christmas was too creepy to be "Disney" but Walt himself came up with some creepy ideas as he understood that all kinds of stories could be told. NBC fits in just fine.

I really like the movie, it's different. Love the style, won't say "I love this movie", but it's good enough.
The music is catchy "this is halloween this is halloween" (ugh, I done it now, haha).

I'm not really sure if it makes me feel more in the Disney spirit ... I do like the Haunted Manion version in DLR during Halloween!
I don't care much for the merchandise at all though, so I don't really look at it when at Disney.

I like the songs, and I like the style, I do not like the Haunted Mansion overlay in DL, I've been once to DL, and I wish I could have seen the ride without the overlay first.

But the movie itself, it's quirky.
It's not at the top of my list, but definitely not at the bottom either.

I love the character of Jack Skellington who is such a Disney princess, going out to find what he really wants, and try to get it. And when things go wrong, he sulks for a moment and then goes to make it all better and finds his true calling.

Also actors at a Disney park playing Jack Skellington never disappoint. He must be an amazing character to play, so different from the regular princes or male villains.

Oh yes! I've only met him at Disneyland Paris, but as just Jack, or as Sandy Claws, it's a real treat to meet him!

Have you made it to the part where Jack discovers Christmas? That's where the movie really took off for me. Jack's total joy and fascination in discovering something completely foreign to him is engaging, fun, and inspiring.

Definitely one of my all time favorites. But I'm also a big Danny Elfman fan.

I was the teen girl nerd at Hot Topic in the late 90's buying all the NmBC stuff to deck out my car, ha. I still had my Jack Skellington floor mats up until about 8 years ago I think.

I am also a huge Danny Elfman fan. When I discovered Oingo Boingo it changed my perception of music!

I love Nightmare before Christmas. When we were in DLP last year, there was a photo op with Jack near the Haunted Mansion. Very apropos in my opinion.

My husband is a huge fan of Danny Elfman and Oingo Boingo. I could take or leave Nightmare. My middle son and my youngest son have all gone through their Nightmare phase. Constant singing, listening to the soundtrack in every language they can find, and constantly quoting the movie.

It's a great movie.

It wasn't originally released under Disney until it became a cult hit. Good doc on Netflix about the making of this feature. Check it out. It's the Holiday Movies that made us.
