I know they have activities in the evenings.. can anyone tell me what they are, and approximate times? We will be there in Feb, would that make the activities earlier??

Hi,

This is from allearsnet.com:

There are a number of special programs offered throughout the day at AKL. Be sure to ask for a list when you check-in to the hotel. A sampling of the recent programs offered at the resort (all programs subject to change without notice):

--flamingo feedings at the Flamingo Pond
--animal tracking at Arusha Rock
--Music of the Savanna in the Sunset Lounge
--wildlife games in the Sunset Lounge
--African games and crafts on the Uzima Pool Deck
--cultural safari in the Sunset Lounge
--animal viewing with Night Vision
--Adventure Camp for children 6-14 that includes ostrich egg painting, private lodge tour and lunch overlooking the savanna.
--Cookie decorating at Boma

Outside, at the Arusha Rock, there is nightly African storytelling next to Ogun's Firepit. (Storytelling is held indoors in the event of inclement weather.) If you have the opportunity, take the time to speak with the storytellers.

The story telling around the fire pit is really cool. Grab a glass of wine at the Jiko bar and you are ready to go.

What time do they do the storytelling?? I want to go at least one night while we are there, and I need to make sure we don't have dinner reserved..

Does anyone know about what time they usually do the storytelling?

When you check in they should give you all that info. I don't really remember but I want to say around 8:00 or 8:30. It isn't really long but they have these great rocking chairs around the fire and after the story is done you can just sit back, rock and enjoy.

How cool is THAT?! Has anyone done it?

My DH and I got to do the night vision. It was awesome. That night the animals were fairly close so we could see them without trouble. That was one of the highlights of our anniversary trip in 2006.

Thank You!

I'm so hung up on these night vision goggles! I need to do this! :yay:

Is there a charge for this bit o' fun?

Thanks, everyone!

Start times might vary, so you should check on the board in the lobby. Especially the story telling at the fire pit depends on when dusk is, so it changes around quit a bit.

I personally have only been on the Culinary tour which I can absolutely recommend, you get to taste some of the food at Boma, it would be a great introduction for anyone who is at Boma for the first time. Just make sure you go on the day you will be dining at Boma as the buffet offers different things on the other days.

My DD did this and loved it!!!!!!!!!!! She still talks about it. We just happened to stumble upon it one night when we were there for dinner. They were so wonderful.

loving this thread. i leave for akl on monday & i can't wait! thx for the info everyone!

Are these activities only for those guests staying at that specific resort, or can anyone who is staying at a Disney Resort do those activities too?

thanks!

When we stayed at AKL, I believe that the guide brought out the night vision goggles at 9:00. The kids lined up and had about 30 seconds to look. The guides are all from Africa and very enjoyable to talk with! There is a list of events posted in the lobby. I noticed that around sunset, trucks drive through the savannah refilling the troughs. This usually brought the anilmals closer to the lodge. No one asked if we were staying there, so I think anyone can come and visit. You'll love it there!!!:thumbsup2
