I am trying to decide what we should do.. We are staying at the WL under the 7/4 package... Our package starts on a Friday. Since we are driving I would like to arrive Thursday night to get a fresh start on Friday... Here are my questions..

Should I book a room only at WL that Thursday night? We wouldn't be checking in at until around 9 or 10 at night.

OR

Should I go for a cheaper hotel and check into WL early Friday morning?

My concerns are if we check into WL late we will get stuck with a bad room/location.... I fear all the good rooms will be assigned already...

However I would really love to just check into WL and not have to worry about checking in again Friday morning. I want to go to the parks as early as possible Friday morning.

What do you think?

Why not book a room under the Disney Visa CTV package? Its room only. Here is a list of the prices from Mousesavers:

Ft. Wilderness - $45 full hookup campsite, $164 cabin
Value resorts - $69 standard
Moderate resorts - $89 standard
Animal Kingdom Lodge - $134 standard, $155 pool view, $210 savannah view
Contemporary - $159 garden wing standard, $180 garden view, $265 tower
Polynesian - $239 garden view, $325 lagoon view
Boardwalk, Beach/Yacht Club - $224 standard, $290 water view, $375 concierge garden view, $425 concierge water view
Other resorts, room types and views are available at varying prices!

When we've go down (we fly),we just pick the best deal off the boards here (one of Pete's advertisers) and just stay off-site for one night. We keep all our overnight stuff in one bag so we don't even unload the car for that night, just bring in the one bag and we're good to go the next morning.

Thanks for the replies..

My main concern is if we check into WL late will we end up with a bad room? or should I just check into a cheaper room Thursday and wait to check in WL first thing Friday morning to get a better room?

We normally drive down and arrive in the Orlando area the night before aslo and we always just find a cheap room off of Disney property for that night and go early the next morning to check in at the Wilderness Lodge. This gives us a full day at the parks plus a better chance at getting a good room.

I'd stay somewhere else the night before and go check in to WL early in the morning.

Realistically if they are not fully booked, you should be able to ask to move to a new location the next morning if you are not happy with your room.

Good luck!

We are in the same predicament altho we will arrive mid afternoon. After looking at all the options, we decided to book a room only rate for the first night at the Poly, which is where our 7 for 4 package is booked. From what the concierge staff has emailed me, there is a very good chance we will not have to move rooms, which is huge for us as we have 4 kids and did not want to hassle with packing/moving to another room, much less another resort. Is it more expensive? You bet...but I also look at the time/effort it would take for us to relocate from one resort to another as a "cost" deducted from our first day in the parks. For us, getting settled into our resort and getting the family acclimated on our arrival day is part of the magic. For you, arriving so late, it may make more sense to stay off-site and arrive early in the a.m. to drop off your bags, get your UPH passes and hit the parks. If you do decide to stay at the WL, make sure you note on the room only ressie that you will be continuing your stay on the package; I was told this "flags" your reservation and helps you keep the same room for your entire stay.
