Night and day alone with three kids

Well, in the category of "Nothing is ever easy" we can put the fact that my husband will have to drive home (5 hours each way) one night of our vacation to be called in a court case involving his employer. We have planned this trip for a year, and now they've scheduled this thing for that week and can't reschedule! We just hope he can get out of there early enough to make it back for our dinner at O'hana and enight.

As a result, I will be canceling one night of child care and an adult dinner to entertain the kids solo that night and then I guess I will take them to the MK (as originally scheduled) the next morning. We will have spent the day at Blizzard Beach, so we may not feel like more swimming and we won't want to use one of our park days, so I'm trying to decide what to do that night that won't be too exhausting for me, yet fun for us all. Kids are 10, 8 and 4. We are staying at the Contemporary, but I'm not crazy about Chef Mickey's. My husband will likely take our car, though he has the option of renting, so I would probably be using Disney transportation.

Any good ideas?

How about the character dinner at 1900 Park Fare in the Grand Floridian? I think Winnie the Pooh is the featured character.

Mickey's Backyard BBQ or the Hoop De Doo Revue in Fort Wilderness are also fun options. I think they run a boat right from the Contemp to Fort Wilderness and it is a short walk. If the boat doesn't run, take the monorail or a boat to the MK, then take a boat from the MK to FW.

Whispering Canyon Cafe in the Wilderness Lodge is a rowdy place and fun for children. Take transportation to the MK and then take the boat to WL.

Thanks. Checked on the Hoop de Doo and only the 9:30 is left. Don't want to keep the kids out that late since I have an opportunity to get them to bed at a reasonable hour.

I had thought of WL and Whispering Canyon, but it doesn't really appeal to me. I'll re-check the menu, though and reconsider. I know the kids would like the boat ride and would probably be impressed by the lodge.

I normally avoid buffets just because I hate carrying everyone's food around and without my husband there, I really want to steer clear, so I guess that eliminates Park Fare.

I know, I know, I'm being really picky. It's probably because I'm
bummed over this interruption to our vacation.

Oh you're tough. Okay, I wasn't going to suggest anything in the Polynesian since you will be going to 'Ohanas, but the Kona Cafe is good. The desserts are to DIE for.

I'm not into barf-ets (buffets) either. How about The Grand Floridian Cafe? Narcoossee's is a little more upscale.

All of those suggestions sound great. If it were me I would do pizza and movies in the room. I know it's the easy way out, but you said you would be at BB all day and with MK the next day I would just take it easy!

I thought I saw that the Grand Floridian Cafe is not offering dinner any more. Kona is a possibility, as that is where my husband and I were going to eat alone (mainly because I wanted to try the desserts!). But, I did look at the Whispering Canyon menu and some of the non-skillet stuff looks pretty good. Perhaps if we mind our own business, things wouldn't get too wild, at our table anyway.

If it's not in your plans already, you can take the monorail to Epcot and see TOD! We ate at Le Cellier with our 4yo and he loved it. The pretzel bread is brought out right away and it was a hit! The rest. is very relaxing. Also Garden Grill is a lot of fun and they bring the food to the table.

You might see if Mickey's backyard barbeque is running out at Ft. Wilderness.

If you want to take it easy, just run down to the Food and Fun Center in the Contemporary.

Believe me, I have not ruled out either pizza and movies in the room, or running down to the food and fun center! Really just looking to see if I can find the "perfect" thing to do.

Now my husband tells me that the day they need him in court is iffy and I shouldn't change any plans yet. Well, they'd better not need him on the 20th instead of the 18th, (our 15th anniversary and dinner at V&A Chef's Table).

I was able to add a day to our trip at our same good rate though. Don't think they plan to pay for that added expense, but who knows?

What about the campfire with Chip and Dale at Ft. Wilderness? They show a movie and sell hot dogs. It is on my list of things to try next trip as we have never made it yet.
