I work for a research company considered the leader in our area and can tell you this is how consumers research works. We normally survey 5000-10,000 people (depending on the mix of adults we are looking for) and then weigh it against the US population. Our margin of error is usually 1-3% making it extremely accurate. And hopefully their viewing habits are representative of so many others?...........LOL. Sounds a bit like political polling that always turns out wrong or the margin of error exceeds the difference in the actual results.
